Which makes me wonder if the same principle could be used with a water separating filter for boats.
Ouch! Sorry to hear that Clinker! Sadly I feel your pain - I had an unfortunate incident many years ago with a pike and a treble hook in my thumb joint. Not pleasant!

Thing is, you're not actually casting 4-6oz full beans. So a light spinning rod can happily drop 6oz all day as long as you're not casting it. A gentle lob would be about the limit but mostly you'll be fishing vertically, so all good.

The Hart Absolutes have a soft action and cast that sort of weight. I have an 8ft version, but they may do longer if that's what your/you're after. You're welcome to have a wiggle of mine next time we're out.
What do you define as a good action? Personally I prefer a fast tip action, but others like a through action that bends into the last third of the rod. If you can be more specific on what sort of action you like we can give better suggestions.
