Nice work Ian. A fair few miles covered but at least the fishing was consistent even if there were no lunkers to be had.

I know literally nothing about targeting skate. What's the typical method for catching them Brian? Rods, rigs, baits, type of ground etc?

Can't help on the trailer, but good luck for the Sea Angling Classic. @Saintly Fish and I put our names in the hat for that one but it was so oversubscribed with folks wanting to fish it that we (along with about 500 others!) didn't get a slot. Apparently they will increase the number of anglers next year from 150 to 450, so hopefully we'll stand a better chance of getting a place. Tight lines and keep us posted. Should be a good event.

It's definitely been a strange one. Plenty of sandeels round our way but I don't think I've caught a bass all year so far. Managed one mackerel so far this year and I wasnt even aiming for them - it took a sliver of squid on a bream rig. Those factory trawlers that were scouring the Channel last summer won't have helped this season's fishing at all. Edited to say that I'll move this over to General rather than Catch Reports, given that we're grumbling about not catching 🤣

I spent my early childhood visiting relatives who lived in Deal on the SE Kent coast, where the water looks like chocolate soup. I thought all sea water looked like that until I got into salt water lure fishing in my twenties. Felt like Pompey was tropical 🤣
