    big rob

Welcome Stewart. Good to have you with us. Got to ask... who's big rob?
  3. AT announcement today suggests that fishing is not a reasonable excuse to leave the house in England. https://anglingtrust.net/covid-19/
  4. An oldie but still a goodie. 7/10.
  5. Here's a question for the slow jiggers here: do you find that the assist hooks rust almost instantly? I've had trouble with some of mine - HTO jigs in particular. I'm guessing they all use hooks at the lower end of the quality range to keep the price reasonable. Does anyone have any suggestions for better hooks that I could replace the standard ones with?
  6. Interesting. What were they targeting in the Deep? I've heard it can be good for sharks.
  7. @Odyssey's Jig Heads thread got me thinking. Does anyone fish with lures (hard/soft/jig-head etc) that are cast & retrieved from their tubs? As boat anglers we seem to be preoccupied with vertical fishing but I reckon there's more to fishing with lures than just "up & down". I've done it a few times from Apache, with some reasonable success on bass around the Solent Forts, the Blocks etc. Surface lures can be fun, seeing a bass hit your Patchinko off the top. I use my regular shore lure rods and lures - just need a bit of cautiousness when casting if there are others on the boat. Anyone else tried it?
  8. Yes, but you also suggested that... And I am 🤣

    Jig Heads

They're usually fished direct i.e. no flying collar/boom. Generally they're lighter than the weights you'd use on a flying collar rig (they typically market them in gram weights rather than ounces, which indicates just how light some of the jig heads can be), which generally means small tides and shallower marks. You can find jig head moulds to pour your own heavier heads - I have one for a 6oz head - but these seem to be the exception. Where are you thinking of using them? Guessing the BC, so you may need to find a heavier head or pick a neap at slack water.
  10. Anyone fished the Channel Islands, or Hurds Deep? I've heard lots about Alderney but never been, and given that we may yet be able to head over there to fish this year (assuming mass vaccination brings the protection we're all hoping for) I'm curious to know more.
  11. Looks good Luke 👍 Don't forget to post up some pics when the decals are on the boat.
  12. @JDP, you've been quiet lately. How's your recovery going?
  13. Anyone used the Daiwa Saltiga boat rods? Curious to understand whether their performance justifies the significant hike in price over the Kenzakis.
  14. How much was put in at the last service? Can you be sure 10.5l was put in?
  15. I'd never thought about it before but I suppose that fish must be affected by earthquakes too. Not really a surprise that you didn't catch anything under the circumstances. I mean... as excuses for blanking go, that's a pretty good one...
  16. One doesn't have a dog and bark oneself you know...
  17. @ever optimistic, how long do you recommend for frying a bus then? 10 mins at gas mark 5?
  18. Are they even a thing? If so, I'm all in!!
  19. It's the stream that feeds the lake.
