As the title suggests, what's the strangest thing you've caught that wasn't a fish? I've had a sea anemone, various shellfish, plastic wrapping and several trees (on the back cast when fly fishing). Can anyone do better?

When I was a teenager I was deadbaiting on a local river for pike, using a twin treble hook trace for the bait. After having caught and banked a fish I unhooked the first treble, and went in further to unhook the second when the pike thrashed and hooked my thumb to the free treble, right in the thumb joint. Fair to say it stung just a bit! 😳 The pike just would not lie still and continued to fight and thrash, all the while connected to my thumb. In the ensuing commotion I had to ask a passer-by to hold the fish still so that I could unhook the last treble 🥴🤣 Seeing as most of us have been dangling for years I reckon we must have some good war stories to share?

Watched about 2/3rds. Very funny. 7/10. Would have been an 8 but for the fact that I found it slightly toe curling in places - a bit like having "the talk" with your dad or teacher.

I replaced the Supersub with a Rule pump this evening. The Rule is activated by a float switch, so no more dodgy sensors to keep running on. Interestingly when I tested the new pump after installation it was getting no power. Turns out the old pump had blown the fuse - guessing it ran dry and seized but will inspect it in the morning to find out the cause. Good news was that the House battery was still showing 12.46v, so either the fuse stopped the Supersub from draining the battery or the weather has been drier than forecast in Pompey over the last week or so.

I don't have an aux on my boat, and didn't have one on my previous boat either. Engines are so reliable these days that any breakdown is more likely to be down to poor battery charge management, which is itself something that every boat owner should keep on top of.

I've only watched a couple of videos on YT about it but it looks good. On a par with the C-Map Reveal layer. Based on what Navionics suggest on their website they may have mapped a larger area of the sea floor than C-Map, but as I already have the C-Map chart I'll give the Navionics version a miss for now.

Still in the bottle, thank you very much and I'm not gonna let it out for that effort - it was good... but it didn't make me laugh out loud, so a seven is more than generous all things considered.

Good to know. My thinking is that I'll only really need voice commands, and will use the app for editing video rather than controlling the camera.

Yeah, I can imagine that diving in the Red Sea would be a whole lot nicer than the east Wight, even in summer.

No proper diving. I've done a try dive in a swimming pool, and plenty of snorkelling and I'd love to learn to dive properly, but I can't justify yet another hobby. The boy is interested in learning to dive when he's a bit older, so maybe it's something we'll do when he's old enough.

I've just pressed the button on a GoPro Hero8, with Protective Housing (waterproof to 60m) and rail mount. I did consider a Water Wolf but with a GoPro I can get HD video on land and on the boat as well as underwater, plus the GoPro has loads of mounting accessories that make it more feasible to shoot video hands-free on demand (voice activation, controlled and edits by mobile app), so standby for lots of blurry footage of a rusty pile of scrap underwater plus the obligatory victory shots of a vanquished whiting or two.

Anyone tried fish food for ground bait? I'm talking about the stuff you sprinkle into your fish tank. Could it work for sea fish do you reckon if I could get hold of enough of it?
