    Hi all,

Welcome Pete! Good to have you on here. Sounds like you've had an interesting career. Bet there are some good tales to be told? Glad you like the forum. We're small but growing and the more the merrier, so feel free to spread the word 👍 You have some wonderful coastline in Cornwall. I'm more than a little bit envious! Are you N or S coast?
  2. No, it's actually holding you up as the lowest common denominator, so that others can feel confident that they possess the skills to give it a try. You're a hero Jon, you just don't know it 😉
  3. Don't worry, if @JonC can manage to post up a pic then anyone can!
  4. I didn't do PBL2, but then I had experience of motor boats, and boating in general as I was growing up. So like Neil says, unless it confers a tangible benefit or you're literally clueless about boat handling then it's probably not worthwhile.
  5. Well, congrats on nearly buying a boat then! Assuming that the viewing goes well and the purchase goes ahead, don't forget to put up lots of pics on the "Show us yer Boat" thread 👍
  6. It's ok Neil... just like the nurse says, Geoff won't feel a thing 😉
  7. @Maverick and @TerryW both have Rodmans and can probably answer everything you need to know. Tagging them so that they see this thread 👍
  8. Was this the Smartliner with a 2 stroke?
  9. On Apache, the anchor, chain and rope for the usual depth I anchor in live in a builders bucket in up in the anchor well in the cuddy. When we're ready to anchor the bucket comes out and the anchor gets thrown over the side once the buoy and ring is clipped on. Recovery is the same but in reverse. The buoy, with anchor and chain suspended below gets pulled by hand alongside (not hard work as the buoy is holding the anchor and you're only pulling it towards the boat). Once alongside the rope, chain and anchor is wound back into the bucket, then re-stowed up front. I'd consider going back to the Alderney method on Jersey Girl as its quicker and safer than using the windlass because I wouldn't need to go up front with no railings in a swell to sort out any tangles in the gypsy.
  10. Welcome Pete, sounds like you've had a varied and extensive fishing career then! As @Saintly Fish says, go ahead and post up an intro, and share some pics of your boat on the "Show us yer Boat" thread. We do love a good boat pic here 👍
  11. Welcome Terry! Good to have you on board. We have another Rodman owner on here, @Maverick, and I'm sure he'll be on hand to answer any make/model specific questions you might have. There are some very knowledgeable members here who will be happy to help with more general questions... and then there are the rest of us, just out for a giggle and a dangle. I'm sure you'll fit right in 😉🤣 I used to boat out of Langstone Harbour and know the east Wight area reasonably well... and I know all the best dogfish marks very well. I'm sure it won't be long before you're reeling them in with the best of us 👍 I have to agree, the Solent seems empty of anything interesting at present. Probably just my rubbish dangling though. PS: Don't thank him - we'll never hear the end of it otherwise... 🤣
  12. Yep. You two can't even get that right... 🙄
  13. Take a look in the classifieds then 😉
  14. Fuck off the pair of you. 🤣 Take no notice of them Mick. These two are my comedy side-kicks. I only keep them around to make me look good 😉👍
  15. Welcome Mick. So you know our @JonC eh? Bad luck 😭🤣 Good to have you with us. Are you a thornback and whiting man like Jon? What floats your boat from an angling perspective then?
  16. We can tell you've never used the Alderney method then... 😉
  17. You take the buoy off when its alongside, not when the anchor's at the bow.
  18. A productive day then! Although why you wanted to ruin a perfectly good saloon shower is beyond me... 🤣
  19. If you shroud them, the cable ties may not snap when you want them to. I don't remember seeing a bigger one, but agreed - would be good if they did one.
  20. Now there's a blast from the past. I never worked out whether he left or was booted?
  21. Me too. What makes me hesitate is the fact that with a bigger boat it's harder to see if you're running over the anchor line. Easy in a 16 footer, but less so in our tubs Neil. Mind you, I should probably give it a go from the second helm station to see if that could work.
  22. I used the Anchor Trip link on Apache (https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/2257469794), and it works really well. I'd use the same on Jersey Girl if they made a bigger one, but at present her anchor isn't tripped.
  23. Hi Andy, welcome aboard. Are you posting from an iPhone? If so, try editing the photo slightly, then saving and re-posting. Some of our users have found that fixes the issue of sideways photos. She looks lovely, even if she is sideways. 200 hours is nothing for a 2008 boat! Barely run in 👍
