Now that is a very decent fish, a proper fish ................ our Cod grounds only produce codling to about 2 - 4lb, to get bigger fish it has to be off the wrecks.
There are about 70 wrecks on my plotter within easy steaming distance and only ONE of them produces cod with any consistency .................
However, many of the others will produce 10 -15lb Pollock without too much effort ..............
We have also found one wreck that consistently produced coalfish in the summer, so it is going to get a winter visit .................
Genuine question - are coalfish any good to eat? Guessing they're like pollack?

I know one angler who uses whole cuttle... but they can be massive so I'm wondering how you'd hook it up?? You'd need about a six hook pennel!

Does anyone use them for bottom fishing? I see them online in dayglo colours and wondered if they're worth an extra fish or are they just a gimmick?
I've used white and yellow leads on the end of mackerel feathers... but as there aren't any mackerel around on the south coast my results have so far been inconclusive.
Worth a shot with a short hook length running ledger?

What are the Outlaws using for cod then?
My usual offering is squid and lug, but what else is effective? I've heard of cart bait - mashed up crab in a bag? I've even heard of using marshmallows for them - a fisherman's tale?
-
Haven't heard that one before. 6/10 👍

8/10 for that. Most chuckle-worthy. 😅

Good one 👍. 7/10

Lovely pics Ian, and lovely part of the coast along there. 👍

If the transducer is clicking, that's good but don't let it run out of water for long - they can overheat if dry.
As for the GPS module... check the cable and connections for corrosion or breaks, check it has power and that it had been connected correctly. If it's an NMEA 0183 model, then be sure that the wires are connected to the head unit in the right order.

Not bad JS 🙂. 6/10 for that one.

Yeah and fairies at the end of the garden 🙄
According to my daughter there are. Her fairy's name is Lily and she writes to her.
FFS... Lily (aka Mrs135) writes back, in really tiny handwriting... 🙄🤦♂️

Welcome GPS. Long time no speak. Glad you've found the best little boat angling forum on the web. 👍

I've not found it has memory... you could also try the Savage Gear fluoro made for lure leaders. That's quite good, and supple.

Yeah, I was made up. It was taken last winter but it still puts a smile on my face and hers. 😁
I came home from doing some work on the boat last week to find a little post it note stuck on my home office door. Hand written by her asking if she could come fishing with me next time I go out 🥰

And that's the earliest we can expect to get out
If Drakeford feels like flexing his muscles again, it could well be later
Well, you have my sympathies. I was climbing the walls to get out on the boat when we were locked down in the summer and I have absolutely no wish to repeat that. Of course if it happens in England then I'll respect it, but from one angler to another I feel your pain 😭
So this is why the weathers crap.
