  1. I was out on Sunday blanking at St Cats Deep, and on the way I stopped at a couple of wrecks to continue refining the transducer set up on Jersey Girl. I need to tweak the angle of the Active Imaging transducer as it loses bottom over about 10 kts. But it works fine below this. Below is the Camswan again - best image clarity yet. Conditions were pretty calm so there is minimal disruption of the image due to wave action. I also buzzed over the Highland Brigade - below is what she looks like at 18kts. For those that don't know, she's quite a large wreck - I found it interesting that she's relegated to a relatively small blob of structure at speed (image is a function of speed/time on fishfinders) - she'd be easy to miss, so it's always worth scouting an area at slow speed to pick up the wreck/reef/feature more clearly on the finder.
  2. Thanks Scott. I'm just about to post up an even better image of Camswan that I took on the weekend.
  3. It's quick then! Looks like a nice boat. I notice you have doel fins fitted. Do you find it helps to get on the plane?
  4. Made me chuckle. You can have 7 out of 10 for that one. 😄
  5. That's a great starter boat. Good purchase. Some good suggestions there by Fishy, just take it one step at a time. You'll have plenty of support from the members here and we do love a good boat re-build thread 👍
  6. Welcome to Offshore Outlaws! I recognise your name from the dark side, but we won't hold it against you 🤣. You'll find the Outlaws a relaxed place to share advice and banter. We're not too serious on here, but there is also some great knowledge to be had from the members. What sort of fishing are you into? If you have a boat, post some pics on the "Show us yer boat" thread. If you're a stinky bait angler there's even a section for that here too. 😉
  7. Can you post a pic of your serial number plate and of the outboard itself?
  8. Try here: https://yamahaoutboards.com/en-us/home/owner-resources/all/owners-manuals Edit: actually, scratch that - it only goes back as far as 2006. Hold on - will see what else I can find.
  9. I think I know the style you mean - take a look here for a "push on/push over" style coupling: http://www.sbstrailers.com/online-shop/Coupling/Couplings-braked/SB1903-90s-push-on-device-coupling-overrun
  10. Welcome LostPiker. Wilson Flyer's are great boats - very stable hull so you'll find them a good fishing platform. Take a look here for a free download on angling boats and how to set them up with safety in mind. I'm not far from you - between Reading and Newbury. Some good fishing to be had on the Thames and on the south coast. Looking forward to your questions and seeing some pics of your boat as you tart it up - you could do a before and after thread perhaps?
  11. Welcome to Offshore Outlaws Patrick! Good to have you on board. Fishing with family is always fun - especially from a boat! But do remember, safety first. There's a great book here on angling boats that is free of charge and should help you to get set up safely. Post up some pics on the "Show us yer boat" thread too. 👍
  12. Do you mean kinked instead of linked Jon? If so, then yes, that was part of the reason I coiled it by hand, to ensure it's as twist free as possible.
  13. No idea - it was just the bit that came with the hole saw arbour, so I suspect it may have been at the lower end of the quality scale.
  14. If only I had a mate like that eh? In the end I bought one from Screwfix. I also put the new chain and warp in - that was a pain of a job - head in the anchor locker pulling the warp through the windlass and coiling it by hand, all 180m of it. No wonder I didn't leave the marina until 1.30am today - got home by 3. I'm off for a nap now....
  15. Yep, I had to swallow hard before making the first cut!! 😬 There are rails on the gunnels and splashwell top but... they're really only any good for tying off fenders because they're too low - not enough room underneath the rail to get the clamp of a rail-mount rod holder under it. As it happens though it's no biggie for me as I like the look of the flush fit holders on this boat - keeps it looking minimalist and less cluttered 😁
  16. Last night I installed two new flush fit rod holders on Jersey Girl, one in each corner of the splashwell top. Certainly focuses the mind when you're about to cut a great big hole in your boat...! Firstly, measure, measure then measure again. See my marking out below and how I adjusted the position of the holder before cutting! Here's the first cut, in the starboard corner. And on the port corner, the drill bit snapped! Bugger! But I could keep the cut going and it finished fine.
  17. He was what?? Don't leave us in suspense!
  18. I don't think he was talking about you specifically Jon...
  19. Cheeky sod! If only...! I literally can't remember the last time I was able to sleep in.
  20. That's a nice suggestion. I already have plenty of moulds built up over the last couple of years, so I'm all set. TBH it's having the time to make them that's the issue. I need an hour without curious kids hanging around trying to see what's going on, or trying to "help"...! 🤣
  21. Yep. We should probably do a "how-to" on DIY lead-making.
