  1. @Malc that's a good way to tie a dropper - looks like there'll be less strain on the rig body doing it your way. I've used a loop knot in the past to make a stand-off loop to tie droppers to but I've been curious as to whether the loop knot reduces the B.S. of the rig body.
  2. Interesting - to get to 40m of water round here we have to motor 15+ miles out. Mostly 10-20m close in with predominantly flat ground. I've wondered whether we're actually chasing the depth and equating depth with better fishing, which may not really be correct.
  3. When I head out past the Isle of Wight I often find myself wondering how many marks and fish I'm passing over on my way, and when I think about how kayakers must clearly catch good fish close inshore, assuming they probably wouldn't keep fishing from their yaks if they blank, I wonder whether boat anglers are missing a trick by heading to the horizon. Thoughts or experience one way or another? Are we guilty of thinking that all the good fish are over the horizon when in fact they could be on our doorstep?
  4. The switched live would provide power to anything that you only want power to while the engine is running/key in position 1. Suspect that engine electric fuel pumps may use a switched live but don't know if yours is a mechanical pump or electric. It would be helpful if you could take a photo or list the colours you have each side of the connector as it's not really clear what you're working with.
  5. That car really hates you doesn't it 🤣
  6. If no yellow, what wires do you have? Is the yellow missing e.g. one less wire than you should have? Or do you have the correct number of wires from the engine, but none of them are yellow?
  7. Can't speak for Yamahas but both of the Suzuki engines I've owned trim and tilt with ignition off. This is one of the purposes of the red permanent live.
  8. @LostPiker, for clarification, did you say that they had connected the permanent 12v live feed from the engine to the switched live wire on the boat side? If so, then you'll need to move the permanent live back to allow you to connect the yellow switched live from the engine to the yellow switched live on the boat side of the connector. Otherwise the switched live at the ignition switch will actually be permanent, not switched.
  9. Judging by the above diagram, yellow should be the ignition/switched live colour. That would be the permanent live from the battery. Leave it as is. Again, according to the diagram the engine-side connector should be male and the boat-side connector female.
  10. Not sure if this will be exactly the same for your motor but it could be a good start.
  11. Interesting. It certainly felt closer to 10 than the 3-4mph that was forecast on Sunday morning. I knew it would be a bit bumpy with wind over tide, but certainly should have been manageable for us in the Nab area. Anyhow, thanks all for your words of encouragement. @JonC is welcome again any time - hopefully he'll give me another chance to put him on the fish, or at the very least, boil him a pot noodle. 👍
  12. Is your new control box not identical to the old one? Should be a straight swap if it's the right box.
  13. You should have had a different skipper 😔
  14. They are very pretty fish! Looks tasty too 😉
  15. WOW indeed! What a great couple of sessions! Very good work the pair of you! Beats my crappy outing into a cocked hat. Kudos to you both. Get those PB's into the PB Gallery @mike farrants 👍
  16. Sunday morning bright and early @JonC travelled over from Essex to plunder the Solent with Thomas and I on Jersey Girl. Full of optimism for a great day's dangling we leave the marina at 8.30am and head south to the Fingers, just east of the Nab. A couple of other boats were already on the mark and a couple more turned up after us. Although the wind-speed was only forecast to be 3-4mph, the wind over tide conditions had produced a nasty swelly chop that just wasn't pleasant, so we gave it an hour and headed in to the more sheltered water of the Solent. Several other boats had the same idea as us - we were all pulling anchor at the same time, so clearly no-one else was enjoying it much either. We headed round to Browndown to fish the rough ground by the buoy. Bites were frequent for the first 30 mins, with strap conger, dogfish and a solitary whiting to the boat, but they soon died off as the tide dropped to slack. We re-anchored to get a better lie on the mark as the tide and wind had pushed us off, but this didn't produce any better results. A very average day I'm sorry to say, and definitely not worth the effort Jon made with his very early start. #skippermusttryharder
  17. Ah, yes. That'd do it! Glad its a relatively cheap & simple fix for you though, if tedious.
  18. Jeez, two good fish like that and you can't even crack a smile?? 🤣 Very well done @Abozzy. Top codding! I dread to think what @Saintly Fish would look like with a fish like yours - he was grinning like a loon when he caught a 4-pounder 😁😁
