  1. Yet he still called it as a cod on the way up. 🤦‍♂️
  2. Amazing what you can find if you scroll far enough up your message thread!
  3. I seem to remember he went one better than your glove a couple of seasons ago when he caught a scarf downtiding... He swore blind it was a cod on the way up 🤣🤣🤣
  4. She's very cute 😍
  5. I wonder who that could have been? 🤷‍♂️
  6. Go of it. Fat fingers typing too fast on small keyboard.
  7. No, neither he nor Bones had the right stuff to make a go of it, sadly.
  8. Ah, @Tadpole. I still think fondly of our times spent together under the stars, chasing that elicit thrill of a midnight tug on a deserted beach far from prying eyes.
  9. Neither - I just don't have enough free time in between work and family commitments to do both, and on the times that I have available to go fishing, I find myself wanting use the boat instead of going rock-hopping.
  10. My 2 pence is that it's the silhouette/size/vibration/movement that gets the bites, not colour that much. Colour can of course help to present a clearer silhouette when seen from below/to the side, but isn't the only (or indeed primary) factor when selecting a lure to use [speaking as an ex-bass lure angler]. Curious to hear from others on this as it's a subject that comes up fairly frequently in lure angling discussions.
  11. Doesn't fit in the rod bag unless it's folded down.
  12. Yes, the folding ring was new to me, and it's certainly large enough to accommodate fixed spools, so what you say makes sense.
  13. That looks very smart Dicky. Is that a casting brake knob on the end plate?
  14. Even better timing for her that you found each other then. Assuming no aggression issues, she's likely just being an energetic teenager and should settle down soon, and sooner if she feels loved and secure. 🥰👍
  15. Awww! How sweet! And great timing too. How old is she? Cocker or sprocker?
  16. I found them, but they say they were started in 2001? https://olympic-co-ltd.jp/top/aboutus.html
  17. Yeah, I did have a quick look on my phone but couldn't find them 🤷‍♂️. Got a linky?
  18. Just got given some brand new but old (likely 80's-ish) tackle from a neighbour, who got given it from someone else who found it in their loft. A boxed spinning reel, looks to be a coarse reel judging by the yards per lb test figures shown on the spool (8-12lb test). Drag was done up tight... but still works fine once I backed it off. It's a hefty weight as it has a cast aluminium body, rotor and spool. Wouldn't want to carry it around on a river bank all day but would be fine in a rod holder on a boat. Some split shot - 36p per box! How old?? And the world's smallest Toby lure, still in its original packaging complete with hook protector (which I understand is how @GPSguru likes to fish with them). And an 11ft beach rod, with ceramic eyes, cork foregrip and butt grip, stainless reel seat and a folding first ring, which foxed me at first as I've never seen one like it before. I'm tempted to test it out as an uptiding set up. The rod is a bit short for a proper beachcaster, but should be ok to lob a 6 and bait a few yards uptide. The reel drag may be a little light, but I could look to replace it with a carbontex washer stack if necessary. The stack itself looks spotless. Do any of our more... well-seasoned... members remember the brand? Any good/worth keeping?
  19. Quality post @Malc. A good overview of luring for cod. Thanks for sharing 👍. Interesting that you've had success with stand-up jigheads. I know them as ned-rigged when fishing for bass from shore but never thought to try the same principle with bigger lures for cod. Food for thought there, particularly as there is a large patch of broken ground (the Spoils, an old dumping ground out past the Nab Tower in the east Wight approaches) that I plan to explore this year. Will also give the dropper idea a try too.
  20. Nice work! I particularly like the hound/dog combo. Never had a double-shot like that before... maybe a new target for my 2022 fishing 👍🤣 Those whiting look about the same size I was finding in the Solent the last time I was out. Lots of smaller ones with only one or two table-sized specimens. Very frustrating catching those little ones - how they manage to get a 6/0 hook meant for cod or conger in their gobs I will never know. If you're after huss I seem to remember reports in years gone by of huss coming out of the left hand (north-eastern) side of Blackpool Sands, fishing very near to the rocks. A good time of year to target them there as the beach is mostly empty of visitors and swimmers, plus the car park is free.
  21. Fair call. I could probably have strapped a rod on the rack alongside the roof box. But definitely no room for a stinky tackle box in the car though. Manky old bait smells on a 4 hour journey to the south-west would have the family puking 🤮🤣.

    Just joined

🤣 You've got him down to a tee! I can see you'll fit in nicely round here 😁
  23. As above, really hoping for some more time on the water in 2022. Plus finally moving (🤞🤞) and then I can use the garage as my fishing den/tackle storage area. Also I must sort out my wardrobe - those Covid lock-downs played havoc with my trousers - they kept on shrinking at the waistline and Mrs135 swears blind that she hasn't put them on a boil wash by mistake... 🤔🤷‍♂️
