I was about 4 when I started fishing with my dad.  He built a small boat similar to the Poole Canoe which is a flat bottom boat.  There was a seagull 2or3hp outboard on it to start with he then upgraded to a seagull silver century 5hp with clutch and recoil starter OOOOH I here you say but in those day that was a major upgrade.  We generally only ever fished Poole Harbour but as a kid I had a blast. I have been fishing ever since and since the age of 18ish I have hardly ever been without a boat of some description as follows:
18' cornish sports boat, 10' With, 17 Pilot, 18' Poole Canoe, Hardy 17' Fisherman, Warrior 195, Karnic 2460 and now my current boat Rodman 870, it took me about 45 years to get through all those boats but apparently Neil got through that many in a month

A useful tip about using a hole saw. If you need to cut a hole near an old hole such that it is impossible to use a pilot hole as a centre. Cut a holesaw hole in a piece  of ply and use a temporary means to fix the ply hole template to where you need the hole. Use the holesaw without the pilot drill. The holesaw will run in the hole in the ply and cut the hole where you want it. I was looking for a reason to post something as I would like to know what the little rectangles (smilies) are and how to access them. Geoff.☺️

Have fished since about the age of 7/8 with my Grandfather on the local canal
He never had a clue about fishing, so I never had much of a chance in the early years
I can't remember ever catching anything, but at least it taught me to be patient
Progressed to the local river up to the age of about 14 then discovered alcohol and girls (that discovery is up there with penicillin to me)
Started back up in my early 20's when my father and his mates were going regularly, sea fishing never appealed to me as I thought it was all big stiff rods (ooer) massive hooks and lacked any finesse, but after my first trip with them I was converted
We formed a small club and went on charters once a month out of Penarth and from then on, always said me and the old man would get a boat between us
That never happened and after he died in 2006 I though fk it, I'll buy one
For various reasons it took me 5 years to get a 20ft Wilson Flyer which I sold on a few yrs later and got a 23ft Bayliner, which I sold last year to get my current (and probably last) boat
Still do a bit of fly fishing when a gang of us fish a memorial day for the old man, which involves fishing til 12 (usually on a localish stock pond) back to the pub for a presentation, barbecue and a good swig
As for fishing or boating first, used to be fishing but may be swaying towards boating

Lesson to the newbies would be to first alternate fishing distances, sometimes the weed will run parallel to the beach in bands..
Tip high in the stand to change the angle of line, fish one rod with a quick clip system onto the trace, keep one baited to change in rotation.. the other benefit is that you can knock the weed down the line to the connecter, disconnect and shake the weed off in one hit rather than picking.
I only bait fish for Bass with large baits 6/7oz, casting only a short range.. doing so without a leader but decent 25lb line, not braid due to its rubbish abrasion quality, using shock leader will stop a retrieve thats less than ideal over rough ground.
Mainline directly through to a quick clip, rotating baits again.. my biggest Bass at 12lb 9oz came to this method, along with many other fish including Cod to Bass baits.
Generally weed comes and goes, pick your fishing spots wisely and you won't see any, if you go chasing fish at weedy marks you'll have to put up with it and focus more on certain tide states, more to this game than 3 hours up and down. 🤪

So with the break in the weather the weekend. (Sunday being the better day but Saturday being the only day I could make)
we headed out in search of a Cod!
On the water by 7.30am a little lumpy from the east For the first of the day but it did calm off by about 1pm.
nab grounds various areas and few moves but no cigars.
still we had a few smaller congers dogs pouts and a stray hound.
anyway ! The best part was the curry on the way back
thyme and chillies Restraunt as you head through Birdham. Just thought we’d try it on the off chance .. a long wait for the food . But it was with out doubt the best Indian food Iv ever had .. makes the crap in Kent look even worse than it already is.

I was out on Sunday blanking at St Cats Deep, and on the way I stopped at a couple of wrecks to continue refining the transducer set up on Jersey Girl. I need to tweak the angle of the Active Imaging transducer as it loses bottom over about 10 kts. But it works fine below this. Below is the Camswan again - best image clarity yet.

Conditions were pretty calm so there is minimal disruption of the image due to wave action.
I also buzzed over the Highland Brigade - below is what she looks like at 18kts. For those that don't know, she's quite a large wreck - I found it interesting that she's relegated to a relatively small blob of structure at speed (image is a function of speed/time on fishfinders) - she'd be easy to miss, so it's always worth scouting an area at slow speed to pick up the wreck/reef/feature more clearly on the finder.

it’s nice to hear about your boating history, normally your just a shady tosspot that never lets his guard down !

Here are a few pics of Apache, a 2013 Predator 165 Sea Angler. I've had her for 4 years and loved every minute of her. We've had some great fish from her.

The cabin layout is the main reason some people don't like these,  We have a helm and bench seat across the back wall.  The helm is by the door and this is what some don't like, it doesn't bother me and actually like the fact you can hop out quick when coming alongside.
The bit I like about it is as we have a side door there is a bench seat across the back of the cabin which sits 2 large people,  I fish 3 on the boat but 2 is really nice as it gives half the boat each
There is a small bunk forward of the helm and storage area (I keep my auxiliary there) I have had a kip on it but wouldn't want to overnight.
Will try and put some pictures up next time i'm down

Daughter and I went out early today to scratch some species at Bullocks Patch. She had a great time. "Faster Daddy, go faster!"

Fish weren't playing ball. Just a solitary "bull huss" again for our efforts at the Patch, so we dashed west to Sandown Bay for a drift or two. I got some cracking sonar pics of the Camswan which I'll post up later.

To top it off we put the hammer right down on the way back after she kept on asking to go faster... 31 knots over Culver Spit! Woohoo! 🥳🥳 I ran out of balls before the rpms did! 👍
