Jon cook reacted to GPSguru in Kenzaki......
If you can't get them, then the new Daiwa Super Kenzaki 6 - 15 (SKZB8015-BU) is a cracking rod.

Can't help with the original black blanks, but you've certainly got yourself a good pair of rods. Well done for finding unused ones 👍

Can I claim to have the longest running thread, given I'm named in its title......🤔
Back in track its crazy how prices seem to be rising. Luckily I've a couple of mates who take pity on me.

I would say that what ever your budget for buying a boat is, double it.
Or, if you think you may need a bigger boat later, buy it now. No need to waste money buying a small boat to test the water. Just go and buy the bigger one because they are easier or just as easy to manoeuvre and get on with.
I will leave the pensioners to handle the safety points!
As you were Ian.

Jon cook reacted to JDP in Too much gear
Just had a bit of a clear out yesterday too. Need to make way for a few new bits of gear to to lend to people I take out, as the old stuff was getting shabby. Its funny how hard it can be to let outfits go, some I held in my hand remembering back on trips where the kids had caught things on them which makes it hard to let them go. The fact Im just passing them onto other youngsters at least makes me feel happy they might well end up with a great little adventure to remember too.

When I moved last I got a mate with a van just for my rods an holdals.
Being an all rounder ive got enough gear to fill my motor 5 times over. I hate to actually think how many rods I've got.

So I moved my fishing gear to new house on weekend (priorities)...
Ive now found that the complete collection is 2.5 car loads with more on the boat.... good job I’m skint and can’t buy any more 🤣

@Jon cook, given that we'll be allowed to travel at the end of March, now would be a good time to start hitting the adverts and brokers in earnest, getting them to prioritize you as a motivated buyer before everyone else start thinking about buying a boat. First come first served and all that.
Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, just keen for you to find the right boat. 👍

Hi Terry.
That looks impressive, good range.
I'm local to you, so will be in touch once lockdown is over.

Spiral wrapping is to reduce the amount of torque on the rod being transferred to the holder.
Most carbon rods are spiral wrapped, so the path of least resistance is to spiral wrap the rod. It’s becoming the norm on big game gear, especially those who use light gear for big fish like popping rods.
Looks like nice gear, I’m sure the dogfish will like them

Not naive at all. It takes time to find the right boat. The usual method is to travel to see a boat, no matter where in the country it might be. Of course, lockdown has made that nigh on impossible so don't beat yourself up about it.
When lockdown ends I predict there will be lots of pent up demand for boats, and also lots of sellers marketing their boats. Give it until lockdown ends then commit to travelling wherever you need to, to find the right boat. It'll all be worth it in the end 👍

Well this is a twist isn’t it?? I don’t remember you having centre console on your list?

Apoligies, meant to reply these last replies earlier but forgot......
20' is pushing it an jumps the price of the mooring too. Its all yours @Andy135🤣
This is gonna sound naive, and i appreciate lockdown is making it harder but trying to find a bloody boat is much harder than I imagined!!😂
Almost came good on a 17ft centre consol not far from me this week but the engine is crap, (and over rated for the boat) no electronics, and having done some digging could end up being a nightnare for various reasons. Plus I don't like being taken for a ride!

When I was looking, every one had a very high opinion of shetland boats in general. The 536 is a double skinned boat with the layer of foam, so a bit heavier than mine. Owing to their age, attention to floor, transom etc a must and they usually have older outboards attached. They are well spoken of for sea keeping ability but they are quite small compared to the newer generation of boats.... Best bet, have a look, if ya like it, blag a sea trial then haggle.... If uncertain how to check transom etc, take someone who does, and if you can't fix yourself, expect to pay around a grand.....
Cant remember what engine size they are rated to, the 535 was 60hp, I have a feeling the 536 may be 75hp, but please don't hold me to that, and the old helpful website was taken down when it changed hands
