  1. same with the spurs and tope around here, the kidney banks off portland require very calm weather, and neap tides, then you are into 70ft with 100ft gulleys -thats where my tope came from - plus we had Spurs that day! (and double figure blondes) - only managed to get out there once last year - but it delivered. not sure on the plan this weekend - was looking at getting out both Sat and Sun - hoping for the adamant/shambles but theres a bit more East in it now for Sat which can kill weymouth bay - we might find some shelter off lulworth banks but im not sure what its producing over there. Sunday should be good for a mixed species day!!
  2. credit to you actually getting the rod out to show it fully set up 🤣 have you caught anything yet?
  3. so the lead is locked in on a slider on the length between the clips for the muppet (shown) and the swivel to the bottom hook length - not going to get tangled up?
  4. it would be good to see how you attach the dropper/flapper - im assuming you have a one up one down - the one up is a muppet and the one down is baited - im curious how it looks too....
  5. since I was born in March 1977 - June wasnt the only thing hotting up on the IOW..... 🤣
  6. Nice set up - far more sophisticated than mine - but i bought a boat so the yak took 2nd place. summer only for me = and no real tech on board - i'll only use it for inshore fun! have had some fun feathering - and will try for pipefish and bream in portland harbour and just off the beach in weymouth drifting for plaice - areas i cant get in pugwash. I do have PFD and wetsuit and will wear them when solo.
  7. i was going to recycle some old hokais into attractors to put above my bait - might get a couple of muppets too then!
  8. just seen a Abu 6500 2 speed auto (and a cheiftain 60 surf) for sale on FB - £65 for both the abu is one with a slider on the LH casing to adjust off the brake while casting - sounds complicated to me
  9. i have a slosh 20 and a 30 as my main reels on the boat - might just get another for the shore
  10. dial on the side will be either Mags or centrifugal brakes - best advice is to tighten up to avoid birdnests and loosen off as you get used to it - as you arent going for distance casting it doesn't matter so much - id have it fairly tight - try at home first with a small lead and if you can freespool the lead from rod tip to the ground without your thumb and it doesnt birdsnest it should be ok.
  11. Thanks - but was planning on spending a bit more on a multiplier and less on a FS - as the multi will be my main reel. either that or i wait another couple of months and get 2 decent reels.
  12. nice one - i have an old swedish made Abu 9000 that got me back into multipliers - but its showing its age too!
  13. there wasn't a section for shore bait, tackle and techniques so i put it here ! thanks in advance!
  14. also want a decent multiplier - never used a magged reel before and deffo dont undertand the whole reel down conti style casting - so a decent basic multiplier too...... cheers!
  15. so my old cheapie beach fixed spool reel is on its way out and i fancy a new surf/beach reel - ive been looking at the Tronix pro Guerilla 8000 as its under £50 any other ideas? suggestions around the £50 mark? also best line? its a minefield out there! TIA
  16. awesome! glad you both found each other - shes a cutie alright!
  17. (sorry for the wait...... had to put the recycling out - 1st one since xmas - i cant miss that - theres 12 million cans, and 3 million bottles to go - couldnt wait another 2 weeks lol!)
  18. must be slow loading speeds on your website.......... speak to admin.......
  19. lovely retrro gear - deffo give it a go - i'd be tempted to keet the toby lure in its packaging though - museum piece that! i have a folding first ring on my DAM devilstick - 15ft 3 piece - its right next to me - hang on i'll get a pic......
  20. likewise - just more time on the water I too have a wreck trip out of weymouth (charter) booked for Feb - a first for me. Targets for 2022 include - Turbot, plaice, Bass - in that order - and a squid over 1lb would be great! A Portland harbour Gilt head would be good too!
  21. welcome aboard Malc! I have a kayak as well as the boat - don't get out much on the yak since buying a boat - but do use it in portland harbour - chasing mackerel, bass, etc not a serious set up like yours - i literally just take a spinning or kayak rod and some feathers/lures/spinners and paddle about on a summers day! not had much more than mackerel and pollock so far!
