  1. look good - but they're green? so no good on the boat!
  2. i know you will all mock me for wearing gloves once to hold a thornie - but this is a serious question..... I need to get the father in law some gloves for winter fishing for xmas - the type with fold back thumb and forefinger so he can still bait up - any recommendations? TIA
  3. I thought a P0 [T-N] 00DL3 overload would have had the opposite effect on the back end chat - ie instigated unwanted heavy streaming and multiple downloads - maybe the user wasn't uploading enough H2o, causing the blockage in the back end. I think a X/Lax re-route will do the trick - that or a simply Re-FiG ...
  4. have you sync'd the "P0 [T-N] 00DL3" server to the Back-end chat at the same time?
  5. And how would you like your beef pot noodle Sir? Dry, medium or runny? with or without the sachet of tomato sauce? hmm sir? suits you sir.
  6. cracking "smash and grab" opportunity there - a fine looking bass - weather was lovely here too yesterday - always on a weekday lol!
  7. Think we get them pretty much all year here - I had my first (and PB) early June, we had a few to the boat to 18lb - but heard of one caught recently - not sure of the season for these = would be good to know. same as tope fishing really - I used a 100lb flowing trace, Mackerel fillet, 80+ft water over the banks.
  8. please all be aware that the next weeks football starts on Tuesday - tomorrow evening..... so get your transfers and subs done early - don't want any excuses.......
  9. i buy the B&Q orange ones - only £1 and i get discount there too - they're not up to much though - almost see through!
  10. i've already got a wreck trip booked for Feb - dont think I stretch to 2 - although id be hedging/spreading my bets nicely for a weather window if i booked 2 trips lol! theres a chance one might just happen then!
  11. i bought a 2nd hand ugly stick 20-30lb and found it quite sturdy, feels heavier and up to the task - but i was lucky enough to be given 2 Leeda icons - a brand new 12-20lb and a used 20-30lb = these are now my every day rods paired with slosh 20 and 30 respectively, and i find them a great mix between sensitivity and power. i'll use the ugly stick in deeper water or when wrecking though.
  12. got to be in it to win it! good write up! id rather be catching pout than sat at my desk
  13. well happy for you mate! nice trip out that! some very good fish there! ⚡ ⚡ (ps couldnt find the unicorn so you can have lightening striking twice - just as likely as finding a cod!)
  14. many thanks @GPSguru - very much appreciated - legend!!
  15. nice report - we had to switch when squidding in portland entrances at the weekend - at least 10 boats in the east entrance drifting for squid - and its not a big entrance!
  16. yeah great fun on light spinning gear - the big ones pull, and when one slips off, they really do move quickly in the water! you just need them to expel their water before bringing them aboard and then they cant ink you - rather than agitate them (the ink can scare off others), we bring them to the surface carefully and then let them jet above the surface a couple of times until they're empty - no water = no ink
  17. the hooks came in a mixed tackle box I picked up 2nd hand - had loads of assorted sizes in it - now I'm thinking it may have been an amazon special. all the others have been ok. i'll be in touch @GPSguru......
  18. Very early start to get out under the bridge due to the high tide, 5.30am meet at my mates boat Seadog - With Tim and his 2 sons, 2 dogs and me. Plan was to hit the squid in portlands entrances and then go anchor up. we hit the squid after navigating out in darkness, only a small haul at the north entrance, about 4 medium ones, we moved to checkers (east entrance) and tried there - nothing except a lovely sunrise - could have been due to it being slack water, then moved further round to the south entrance - where the Hood was scuppered - hoping for some there - nothing there either. so off to anchor up on a mixed ground mark. not much to report here, tim's youngest went for a snooze - a late night at the pub & early start fishing didnt do him any favours 🤣 I was fishing big baits on the bottom as was Jamie, Tim had 2 rods out - 1 was on the bottom and 1 was for smaller stuff with a bream rig. as the tide picked up so did the fishing = between us we had Thornines (2 caught on mackerel heads), red Gurnard, Scad, mackerel, Bream, Dogs, and conger. as the frozen mackerel ran low, the 2 lads sent down a live scad each, and i made a big frozen lug and squid sausage. the live scad remained live and untouched for the next couple of hours - eventually being returned at the end. My lug and squid attracted the attention of something decent - thinking it was a big ray i pulled up, it took some line, a few head shakes, and more line, but i think my drag was too tight and it came off - reeling back in I found whatever it was had straightened my hook - wasnt long before the mystery was solved, Tim hooks into something decent, and while he sets his drag and gives it some line, he's able to bring it to the boat - a huge conger weighing in at 42lb - i can only guess thats what straightened my hook. we tried 2 entrances again on the way in and had more squid and mackerel. A lovely day afloat and at least i can sleep easy knowing my knots are stronger than my hooks (time to upgrade my hooks - any suggestions?) Pics: Straightened hook and beast we think responsible! Cracking sunrise over Checkers Fort
  19. I'll have that glove back at the next meet please........
  20. they're less likely to rust through or bend out that's for sure!
  21. didnt catch any squid last night but did pull in a nice 2nd hand dexter wedge (and about 50m of line) Its around 50g - so a decent lure - not a complete blank 🤣 im going to clean it up put new split rings, hooks etc - but heres the questions - what do i clean the rust off with? should i replace the treble or add assist hooks? I know they're cheap enough - but its nice to upcycle!
  22. found these in an old tackle box - no good to me - you're welcome to them if you wanted templates
