  1. looks like a craking couple of mornings afloat - and you must be so happy to be out again - let alone into fish like that!
  2. nice report despite the lack of Cod, at least you had abend in the rod and a fish or two!
  3. some people take this squid fishing craze way too seriously.......
  4. welcome to the site - you'll find plenty of pics of boats and even the occasional dog fish on here! please feel free to contribute! we all love a catch report even if its a slow day - it helps those that haven't been able to get out!
  5. The cod round here are only off Chesil and pugwash wont go round the bill - so no chance of a cod in my boat (and only a slim chance off the beach) my mate can get round the bill so there might be a chance in his!
  6. I forgot my key once on a trip to the marina - thankfully its only 2 mins from home and that day i was going out on my mates boat anyway..... I feel your pain though and actually have a spare key hidden on board just in case!
  7. yeah no worries - thanks - but its offshore wind from tomorrow and i plan to go sunday - so should be nicely stirred up but a bit calmer!
  8. i would have been out this weekend -but my usual crew has tested positive - after we were out squidding on sunday luckily - he was negative on monday and only tested positive yesterday - i was all clear yesterday, but will do another test in a few days. so unless i pop out for some inshore drifting - it'll be the mighty chesil for me this weekend!
  9. nice looking boat - goes well!
  10. oi....... i get there eventually - and more often than most by the looks of it!

I Do love a good bit of prawn…. Went to oz back in 97, and remember going to a place called broulee over the mountains from Canberra to the coast I think, to stay in a beach hut, picked up loads of fresh prawns on the way! Bbq’d them up - delicious!
  13. Weymouth & Portland does have a few options, Lulworth ledges, Shambles, adamant, deep water marks off portland, round the bill if tides are kind. plus shelter if needed in portland harbour but it is that bit further down the coast for those coming from further away.
  14. very good days fishing - i wouldn't be bothered about the Cod if I was pulling 24lb rays over the gunwhales! Cracking day to be afloat too! nice one!
  15. should of held it together with a few circle hooks.....
  16. good effort - well done for trying - especially in the cold!
  17. yeah we kept all the heads for baits, shared some with the neighbours - what doesn't get eaten gets frozen!
  18. no not that strange program on netflix - actual squid. After talking about it all summer me and my boat friend decided to hit the squid yesterday after hearing rumours they had arrived in Weymouth bay. Armed with some cheapo ebay squid jigs, some slight better DTD ones, and a crude (john locker) twisted boom rig we headed out at the crack of sparrows - ahead of even the charter boats - 6am under the bridge we headed to our spot on Tims boat. first drop and I'm in - couldn't believe it - beaten Tim to the squid - however in the process of untangling the lure from the net the squid escaped. 1st one caught and lost! didn't have to wait to long for more - they came thick and fast - lures close to the bottom, not much more movement than the boat itself needed, not a bite as such but a gentle pull - slow and steady small ones were coming up - then Tim's 2nd rod (left in the rod rest) has a definite pull - bend in the rod - and up comes a huge 4lber - followed by another of similar size we ended as follows: Me caught 3, lost a further 3 2 rod Tim - 7 of various sizes - including 3 absolute krakens! the bites (? if you call them that) wore off as soon as the sun came up although this coincided with high water so may be the reason they disappeared. we both had mackerel attack the lures but none landed. we then decided to head over some rough ground where we heard reports of bass being landed to try with soft lures and SPJs - but after losing some gear gave it a miss - and headed home. fully satisfied to have a plan and it not only work, but worked spectacularly well! cleaned the squid on the pontoons (thankfully), home by lunchtime, southern fried squid rings for tea - happy days! first one: 2 of mine: Tims 4lb Kraken Dr P bottle for size reference sunrise was spectacular!
