  1. No, been away for 2 weeks and just got back early hours I don't think there's any issues, as there's no lack of drive or rattles/noises etc and the advice above seems to be pretty clear I will double check next time I get out though
  2. Nice couple of beauts there mate, I'm away until next weekend so hope to get out the weekend after..... If you leave a few for me
  3. Great day by the sounds of it 👍 Always better to err on the side of caution if you think it's going to blow up
  4. No worries, if anything comes up I'll let you know 👍
  5. We paid £80 each (9 anglers in total on boat) Sailed at 7am and back on the pontoon after 5pm, so not too dear IMHO Travelled to 6/7 wrecks throughout the day and didn't plod about either, 16/18 knots most of the time, so used a fair bit of fuel no doubt Seems well up on his shark knowledge too
  6. He could top a 21 when he was 14 and he knew a flap from a todger
  7. As everyone says when a fish looks smaller than what's claimed The photo doesn't do it justice, it was really fat....😄
  8. I completely agree, it was out of the water a good few minutes and I didn't want it going back dead A schoolboy error, with regards to not having a scales to hand, which won't happen again A bit like my chances of catching another double figure Bass, it won't happen again 😭
  9. I don't know the name of the jig Andy, just a long thin 200g one. Silver and blue with an orange stripe down the one side. Only had the one Bass on jigs, all my others took a 6"dark Mackerel firetail Sidewinder Yes the boat was about the best I've been on for deck space and cabin space Great when everyone can get inside and sit on a proper seat, it meant I could grab an hour or so shut eye on the way back in, which made the drive home a bit easier As for the wreck, I assume it was the Murree, going on how high it sat
  10. We (our club) had a wrecking trip on Sat 8th out of Weymouth cancelled, so I had a quick look around and found that "Spot on" out of Brixham was advertising spaces for the Monday A few texts later and I managed to get 3 of us on, with the other spaces all gone to people on the skippers individual text list Up at 3.30, met John and Kevin at 4.20 and on the road by 4.30 for a leisurely 2hrs 10min drive to Brixham harbour On the boat for 7 ( a big new 12m cat that the skipper had built himself from the keel up, inc all fibreglassing) and out into the dark drizzly Channel This was a comfortable 90 odd minute steam to the first wreck, as there is seating for at least 12 inside the cabin, which is separate from the wheelhouse First drop produced nothing, but just 12/14 turns up on the second drop snagged me this I didn't weigh it as I didn't have any scales in my box, the skipper was untangling 3 others and I wanted to get it back quickly so couldn't really wait any longer But Ross (skipper) said "that's a nice double" as soon as he slipped the net under it, so I'm not going to argue with his estimate and it was a right fat bastard too.....the fish Slid it back in the water and watched it disappear like a torpedo back to where it came from The rest of the drifts here just produced small pollock around the 3/4 lb mark Moved on out to wreck number 2 where we all caught much the same as the first and this was repeated on wrecks 3 and 4 Got the SPJ rod out and gave that a go when tide slackened right off, had a Mackerel on a jig that was about the same size as it and a few drifts later had a Bass of around 4lb Happy I finally had something half decent on the SPJ's and a good bit of sport it is too I may have to get a decent left hand wind multi for it now Next wreck stole a lot of tackle and we weren't there long, I hooked a decent Pollock on the drop back down (I was nowhere near the bottom) got it back up probably another 8/10 turns and still lost it in the wreck. That wreck is tall, the murray/moray ? The last wreck we tried was one of the first we tried on way out, here we found some better fish with John picking up a brace of 12/14lbers on consecutive drifts There was also some good Bass came of this one again, with Kevins going around 8lb So a good trip for us 3 with 18/20 Pollock into double figures, 7/8 Bass into doubles and just a few Pouting Our first time out with Ross, but can highly recommend him and his boat. Very roomy (12m x 5) quick and seating for all inside Sorry there aren't more pics BTW if anyone has a trip out of Brixham in the near future, the rd from the harbour to the carpark is closed and the diversion is back out through the town and up through a housing estate, so give yourself an extra 10/15 mins
  11. I shall hopefully be in Tenerife Saturday, but if Mrs Swamps covid pass isn't available by then (her 10 day iso period doesn't end until midnight Sat), I will probably take a trip down to Horseshoe rock, Ilfracombe If nothing much down there, will head up towards Minehead way and give that a try on way back up BTW, had my double figure Bass today out of Brixham, will do a short report tomorrow, knackered now
  12. No tide as such in Cardiff Bay, small amount of flow from the river Ely into it where I am berthed, but not noticeable
  13. Thanks all, I'll check next time I'm out to see if it turns after being run for a bit Also got a slight oil leak on the gear selector arm, which I assume/hope is a simple enough fix, a new oil seal or 2 ?
  14. I have a ZF 63 on the back of my engine which turns the prop when in neutral It doesn't seem right to me as if I select F then R then back to neutral, it doesn't spin for a second or 2, then starts again Not fast, about 1 rev per sec This normal ? BTW forward and reverse both work fine, no noise/grinding etc
  15. No it wouldn't to be truthful, would be nice to get a decent one My best is nothing memorable, around 7/8lb
  16. Jeez, I've got one of those, though wont be in as good condition no doubt Also got the silver rocket and a green mag? elite
  17. I'm going wrecking Monday, that means I'll pull up my first wreck caught Bass which will have to go back
  18. Pretty much what jonc says, apart from the last bit Start with very small lobs, keeping your thumb brushing against the spool and gradually go a bit further each time until you're comfortable with the distance 30/40/yds is plenty If you're using a levelwind, over run shouldn't be much of an issue I use a pair of slosh 30's and I've got to know the fuzzing sound a split second before the kinky affro shows up and put a small amount of pressure (next to nothing really) on the spool to stop it Would rather have a shorter cast, than a bird/snap off
  19. Haven't been out since before Christmas, got a wrecker out of Weymouth booked for this Saturday (and a fortnight after that) forecast not looking great atm Still got stuff to get done on my boat, but weather has been against me, so the new wiper arms etc may have to wait until next month
  20. Something like that, yes Possibly a bit more at WOT against the tide if we're being picky, but I stay around the 3k mark and am happy enough plodding about
  21. As for cruising speed around 16 against the tide and 18/20 with it
  22. Mine topped out at either 25 or 26 knots across Cardiff Bay (no tide) after a clean etc and sounds happy enough around 3000 rpm Top rpm is 3800, so nowhere near thrashing it and consumption is around 7 gph
  23. That's tomorrow's plan Mrs swamps birthday today, so party are swamp towers tonight
