There was a good looking 24’ Wilson on Fb, I’ll try to find it and post it up.
Can you post it up jon, may be my mates old one

When you’re recovering in shallow water do you break out first or just motor over the top and wind up?
In and out of forward and wind at the same time, trying to get warp/chain vertical so once it trips or breaks free, it's not dragging the bottom just coming straight up
Obviously it will depend on tide strength as to how vertical it will actually be
Don't know if that's the correct way, but it works for me

Well that’s you fucked then

How about twisted copper cable? Not sure if that’ll hold enough though.
I think it's more the case of the top of the anchor shaft catching under the roller bracket (don't know the name) and the force of the windlass snapping the ties

I hate motoring forward to break the anchor out, I know the rope goes either side of prop but it feels wrong.
I've never tried it, I used to pull anchor by hand on my first boat (younger, stronger, stupider)
And my last 2 have both had a windlass
Probably 80% of the small boats around me use the Alderney method and have no issues, we sometimes get silly undercurrents which would make me nervous about using it
Have only heard of 1 sinking when he got it wrong (about 4 yrs ago, was on wsf) that was enough for me

Does the anchor not trip when you use the windlass to pull it up then?
Yes if it gets stuck, my problem is the ties sometimes catch on the front of the bow roller and snap
Not the end of the world, just a pain and wondered if there was an easy solution

Have the above downloaded and have put all my marks on it on my laptop, the map on Homeport has no detail whatsoever only water and land
I've bought a G3 Vison card and just plugged it in with Homport running, expecting to see a mass of contour lines and other details
There is no difference to the chart appearance, but the card is recognised
In the top left corner, I tried to drag and drop the stored marks from Homeport to the card but wasn't allowed
I have registered the card on Garmin express, does it need to go in the plotter first ?

If your using an Alderney ring then you are launching and recovering by hand no? So why would your anchor snag the ties in the roller? Just be a bit more careful perhaps?
I use a windlass, don't like the Alderney method

I used the Anchor Trip link on Apache (https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/2257469794), and it works really well. I'd use the same on Jersey Girl if they made a bigger one, but at present her anchor isn't tripped.
That's the one I was thinking about, they don't do a bigger version ?
Cable ties it is then, though now and again they catch on the end/side of the bow roller and snap off
Is there anything available (like a shroud of sorts) to cover the end of the anchor (cable ties) to stop this happening
-
I currently use the double zip tie method, but think I can remember a "factory made" one back a few years ago
Had my memory jogged the other day about it
What method do others use ?

Good point regarding him claiming back the postage cost zook, I don't want the reel (as it doesn't belong to me)and will happily send it back, just not at my expense
-
The seller wants me to pay postage 😄 I explained that I wasn't prepared to and that I would give it to a courier if he arranges it, or he can pay postage
What a tosser of a bloke

I said to my girlfriend, When I asked you to tease me, I didn't mean tell me my cock was small!"

But if a bloke does it

Thanks for the report.
I can’t quite motivate myself to go fishing at the moment, the fear of constant whiting (merlangius merlanhus for Fisty) just isn’t so appealing. I think I’ll go and put the outside lights up and have a good ol’ swearing session.
Funny old game of rugby, the refs interpretation of scrummaging laws certainly help the good guys (white) out.
Sampson Lee looked pretty fucked off when he got bought off, I wouldn’t have liked to have got on his way last night.I've lost a bit of interest in the rugby atm, Pivac trying his way and it ain't working
The WRU are fools, after Gatland left they should have done whatever it took to keep Edwards as coach, but they refused to extend his contract and he (quite rightly) walked
Leaving the team to pretty much start from scratch, we've gone from being way up there with the best to playing like a Sunday morning pub side
Anyway, what size do your whiting go, lovely eating fish them

After perusing the forecast and seeing 20 knt gusts coming North East, my chosen mark was soon discounted
Through the 7.30 lock we go and head over to the sheltered Ladye bay, just North of Clevedon pier
Not too bad a trip over considering we were against the wind and tide, with anything over 12/14 knts a bit uncomfortable in the deeper parts of the channel
Dropped the anchor quite close in and, between the four of us, had 10 rods out with Lug, Rag, Squid, Prawn, Mackerel and Bluey as baits
A small Codling first cast was the sign of things to come (or not) but we could dream
Nothing on all 10 rods with only another smaller codling after an hour or so until around 10 ish when a plump 6lb 10oz Cod was netted and hopes of a decent run of fish were high
Alas, apart from me missing a thumping knock, that was it for the ebb
Spoke with a charter who had stayed over Cardiff/Penarth and all he had was one or two dogs and a Blonde ray, but said it was lumpy, uncomfortable and wished he had followed us up to Clevedon
So with that snippet of info, I decided to stay put in relatively flat water
A couple of Congers to 10/12lb just after slack provided a bit of much needed action until we had a bit of water running, then back out with the uptiders
Not a sniff on any of the rods, apart from the odd weed knock, so we decided to pack in around 2.30, pull the anchor and make our way slowly back to Cardiff
It's usually a 35/40 min run back, but running with the wind and against the tide made it a lot longer and interesting to say the least (especially with the the fog) the slow run back gave me the opportunity to see and save a few interesting marks with one looking very promising
The weren't too many boats anchored around Cardiff/Penarth, don't know if they went further west or had simply gone back in early because it wouldn't have been nice fishing with the strong wind holding the boats side on
Through the 3.45 lock, tied up by3.55, home by 4.50, showered and in the pub by 5.10 to watch the second half of a pile of shit
Role on next week (not the rugby though, I've disowned Wales atm)

@jonnyswamp, Nick what was that solution you put on your hull to make it shine?
This stuff, only works on coloured hulls not white, reacts with the original pigment or something
Edit
The hull is still as bright as it was when first done, don't know how it will fair after a few months of sun, but it's easy to do next year if needed

Ah right, won't be my mates old one I doubt
His had a straight 6 Mercruiser diesel (180hp IIRC) and the guy who bought it was going to drop a bigger lump in it
