Well done for getting out at least. Shame you guys can't scratch the itch until November now 😭.

And that's the earliest we can expect to get out

If Drakeford feels like flexing his muscles again, it could well be later

Wish you’d posted this last week. I’ve just spent £40 on end tackle bits. Typical🙄

    is the stuff any good?

Yeah not bad, the feathers are no different to what you'd buy elsewhere

The deals change, have had twin packs of Sidewinders for £2, triple packs of booms for £1

3 packets of black feathers for £1, these do well on the reefs around Dale/Milford

If you're anything like me you'll be like a kid in a sweet shop

  3. With the Welsh lockdown not due to end until 9th Nov at the earliest, I've already started buying stuff I don't really need

Lures, hooks and other things I can't do without from the onepoundfishingtackleshop (worth a visit)

Another Accusharp knife sharpener (these are good)

Insulated cooler back pack, because the 3 I have just wont do

A 400w smart battery charger, this I need as my previous one went for a swim

And we're only a day and a half in

  4. With a total lockdown due to start at 6pm on Friday 23rd (and the barrage closing except for emergencies) work was put on the back burner and bait was ordered

Got in the 7.30am lock and were out in open water heading East by 7.45

Arrived at Ladye Bay, Clevedon around 30/40 mins later and the pick was dug in, then it slipped, then it dug in again

Fresh blacks and rag on the uptiders, whole squid on the downtider, kettle on the gas

3 cups of tetleys finest for me and my 2 crew (Shuff and Nipper) and a Tunnocks teacake to get the sugar levels up ready for the boat full of cod we were going to land

My downtide rod was first to twitch and when I struck into it, showed all the classic traits of a nice sized cod, stayed deep with the odd solid thud

Then unbelievably, the double figure cod got off and was replaced with a 6-8lb Thornback, which started kiting in the tide and making a nuisance of herself

Quick pic then returned to dupe someone else

Nipper then had a near carbon copy of my first fish (although his definitely knew it was a Ray and acted accordingly)

Pulled the pin and moved a bit further out on slack water to the bank of a channel that (when they are in) always produces cod

Apparently, cod weren't made aware of this rule and stayed away allowing us to bring in some nice-ish congers (if ever there were anything nice about them) to around 10-12lb and a few dogs

The ebb got too strong and with wind against tide we pulled anchor and headed back down the channel for a mark on the coral

A real snotty ride back with the tide and against a much stronger than forecast wind gave the roof and deck a good swill off though

Dropped anchor toward the top end of the armada that were already there and in the hour that we were there I had one pin whiting, with nothing else showing interest in any of our baits

Upped anchor for the last time and made the 10 min journey into the 4.15 lock, talking to a charter skipper and all he had heard caught was a few small codling and one around 6lb near him

Very hit and miss at the moment, with some nice doubles coming out, but not in abundance.............yet

Barrage shut until Nov 9th 😭

Yep all boilers are white !

Except the black Worcesters or the red Lamborginis or the green grants 😆...............

  6. Have fished since about the age of 7/8 with my Grandfather on the local canal

He never had a clue about fishing, so I never had much of a chance in the early years

I can't remember ever catching anything, but at least it taught me to be patient

Progressed to the local river up to the age of about 14 then discovered alcohol and girls (that discovery is up there with penicillin to me)

Started back up in my early 20's when my father and his mates were going regularly, sea fishing never appealed to me as I thought it was all big stiff rods (ooer) massive hooks and lacked any finesse, but after my first trip with them I was converted

We formed a small club and went on charters once a month out of Penarth and from then on, always said me and the old man would get a boat between us

That never happened and after he died in 2006 I though fk it, I'll buy one

For various reasons it took me 5 years to get a 20ft Wilson Flyer which I sold on a few yrs later and got a 23ft Bayliner, which I sold last year to get my current (and probably last) boat

Still do a bit of fly fishing when a gang of us fish a memorial day for the old man, which involves fishing til 12 (usually on a localish stock pond) back to the pub for a presentation, barbecue and a good swig

As for fishing or boating first, used to be fishing but may be swaying towards boating

On the older R1/2 ecotecs I’ve changed a couple but not too many. The pressure vessels are more troublesome I find. Luckily my parts shop sell an after market vessel for £60 + vat, which is half the original price. Funny thing is there made by the same firm !!

Im an institutionalised Vaillant man, been fitting them for 25 years or so.
Play golf badly with the area sales rep and get £90 cash back on every boiler 👍🏻

I used to know our local rep quite well, he moved on to pastures new and have only met his replacement a couple of times

Changed a vessel last week, think I paid 90 odd plus vat

I used to be the same regarding Vaillant, visited their training centre in Yate whilst an apprentice (about 86/87) and was very impressed

  8. I've fitted quite a few, cupboard fit and can be a bit fiddly to pipe up

Suppose time will tell whether they are quality or not

Have changed 4/5 Vaillant pcb's over the last 3 weeks, you get many go on your patch

Ah! A local heating engineer 🙂 always good to know 🙂

I’m in the process of buying a house and I’m not sure on the heating system etc so I maybe after you to help out 🙂

    #KeepItLocal 🙂

Get in touch when the time comes, if you're buying a house, insist that the seller gives you a current gas safety certificate

Preferably one carried out recently, gives you an idea of the boiler condition

What’s your brand of choice ? I’m a vaillant man.

Always used to be Vaillant, but think they are outpricing themselves, although I think they're still good

I like the Baxi 830's, 10 yr warrantee and all brass internals

Won't use Worcester, overpriced and full of plastic

  11. With our (Welsh) lockdown starting Friday at 6pm and lasting at least 17 days, I'm going to venture out on Thursday

Have checked with the boss, who's a bit of a twat, and moved a couple of jobs about to make it possible

I can see the locks being quite busy Thursday and Friday

Luckily, I have a good reason to be out of my county, I have to look at a boiler breakdown in an apartment right next to Cardiff Bay 😉
