jonnyswamp reacted to Odyssey in Heading 90 degrees out
Sounds like you just need to do a calibration. Mine has been correct for 5 years then 3 weeks ago was out by 30deg.
Quick google search, put it into calibration mode for the heading sensor/flux gate compass, you basically do a big circle at low speed and ta-da sorted 🙂

jonnyswamp got a reaction from suzook12 in 8th July 2023 Bristol Channel
Out on the 7.30 am lock to a bit of forecasted rain, plan A was a run up to the English side of the mid grounds and have go for a Bass or 2, but speaking to a charter skipper in the lock who's always been helpful (sharing marks advice etc) decided to buddy up and follow him across to Sand point for the usual dogs/hounds/rays (plan B)
It soon became apparent that there was a storm over the area we were going, so parted company with the Charter boys and implemented plan A again
Leaving the rain and wind behind us, we had the anchor down, rods out and kettle on by 8.30
Non stop here with Bass, Cod and Even Gurnard......plus dogs and rays
Stayed here until high water, then moved over to the mouth of the Usk hoping for a Sole, again non stop with all of the above plus Ling and Wrasse but no Sole
Watched a storm cross the Channel towards Cardiff (about 8 miles away from our spot) and the wind picked up swinging us side on making things a bit sloppy
This was around 1.30, so with an ice box full of Bass, Cod, Ling etc, we pulled the pin and got the 2.15 inbound lock
Pictures below
Now, the more cynical among you may say that the above fish weren't all caught in the BC and that's your perrogative
And the likes of @Odyssey and @daio web may say that all we caught were Dogs and Rays, they may be correct
........The storm picture was from yesterday though

jonnyswamp reacted to Saintly Fish in Practicalities running a boat from Teignmouth
@RogB personally I'd never buy a boat without a test run. Engines perform differently when under load than when just sat in a bucket idling. Any honest seller would understand that and make the effort to show off their boat by showing you what it can do. If it's newish I'd expect 2 sets of keys and the kill cord. Also a first, second service receipt or stamp in the service book.
If the seller refuses to take you for a test ride, how do you know it's their boat and not lifted off a driveway somewhere?? Check all ownership papers and make sure the name on the paperwork matches the sellers ID!!

Not sure if this will help, but this is the manual for my old autopilot system. It had a section about reprogramming the fluxgate. Probably not the same model but may give you some hints??

jonnyswamp reacted to Gordmac in Heading 90 degrees out
Pull the fluxgate fuse and see if that makes a difference. I don't think my plotter has an option to ignore the fluxgate, unless I switch the autopilot off the plotter automatically uses the fluxgate for direction.
-
jonnyswamp reacted to Saintly Fish in Heading 90 degrees out
No, the fluxgate compass is normally positioned away from any electronics or metallic objects. Mine is in the forward compartment of the bilge. It doesn't look like a regular compass though as in there are no degrees or visible numbers etc, just a black box.

jonnyswamp reacted to GPSguru in Heading 90 degrees out
Nah, nothing there.
Did you move anything else when you took off the raydome ?
As you don't have auto pilot, the best solution will be to go into the plotter settings and select internal GPS as the source . I suspect you new plotter is set up that way.
Have a fish pic 😉👍

Just a quick trip out for some fresh seafood for my wife’s dinner. Glamour conditions, though the water is getting cold now at 13’c.

Ive heard of some nice sole coming off the foreshore, only 4-5ft of water, need a lot of rag though as lots of rays and conger about….

Usually keep phone in one of the cup holders and hasn't ever been an issue until now
I'll try a reset again next time I go down
