  1. Well after reading some of the reports about local fishing I thought it was going to be a waisted trip out, departed Haslar at around 9am only to leave the entrance to Portsmouth harbour into a wall of fog, made my way to one of my marks at the blocks at Southsea for a days fishing, the sun finally burnt the mist away and it turned out to be a nice clear day and we were the only boat there untill 2 others turned up later in the day, well that's enough on the weather😃now for the fishing,it did start a bit slow but we were soon into doggers (sorry Andy couldn't be bothered to measure them) and small whiting, then came the fish we were after I had a nice knock on the rod which turned out to be a nice plaice weighing in at 2lb 10oz,not long later a thornback of 5lb came onboard and was returned to get bigger, another period follewed dogs than twp plaice one after the other both weighing in at 1lb and 1.5lb, so all in all a good day.

Must also give a shout out to Cosham angling as the ragworm was superb and at £16 per pound👍,I also took some frozen lug with me from my stock in the freeze but strangely only attracted dogs.

But take a look inside the saloon on Tarlach Too. It puts Abramovich to shame. Candy stripe sofa cushions are the order of the day on her, and @Saintly Fish insists it's all his wife's work, not his... 🤔🤣

Mind you, they are very comfy after a hard days blanking.

I have looked at the thread Show us your boats and Tarlach Too looks very nice,no pictures of the striped sofa cushions but I did notice the pink or peach curtains in the windows, at least there is something to wipe your hands on 😂

  3. I thought all fishing boats had these sort of seat pads/cushions,easy to clean when you spill your tea or soup in the winter, fish blood and guts can be wiped up,only boats that have cushions that would be like the ones you have on the sofa at home would be the Russian oligarch's with there gin palace's and Im sure the last thing they would want on there silk cushions would be squid ink and mackerel guts.

  4. I hope to be out on Sunday having another try for plaice, the blocks or hayling bay will be my destination. I have had worm from Dave's tackle in Gosport this year and it was good quality, I will be giving Cosham tackle ago as they look to have had some nice worm these last few weeks on their FB page and it's a new shop which has opened this year so will give it a try, they claim to be the cheapest in the area.

  5. Welcome Tony, also based in Portsmouth and keep my boat in Gosport as well, not sure if Andy is including dog fish in his species of the shark family as his target fish of 2021.

I'm sure we may well see each other out there sometime.

What sort of bling do you use on your plaice rigs then? I tend to use black and green beads. Any recommendations to improve my catch rate?

I'm sure I'm using the same as the rest of the dozen or so boats that were around us on Sunday,a spoon with beads, one rod had green and black the other orange and yellow, both rods had a second hook with just beads. The plaice fell to the spoon with orange and yellow beads but it was most likely the snake like ragworm that attracted it 😂

  7. Well this will not be a long report, after our trip last week to the blocks at Southsea we decided to try and give Hayling Bay a bash on Sunday for a day of plaice fishing, dropped anchor at about 6.54am and within 10 minutes I had one hooked although only weighed in at just over the 1lb and was returned to get bigger I was hopefull for some action for the rest of the day,but sorry to say that was the only orange spotted fish to hit the net, after that it was only doggers that took the hook, tried various baits, ragworm, lug and squid, I gave tipping the hook with squid as all that seem to do was attract the vermin, I did have a really good take on one of the rods which got me all excited, this was rigged with two hooks and only when reeled to the surface to find two doggers had taken the baits.

Still good to get out as i think the weather will not be looking good for this weekend so will have to find some jobs to do on the boat to keep me busy.

  8. Well I'm not sure if I should have posted in the catch reports but here goes, fished the blocks at Southsea on Saturday as it was the first trip out since the boat was anti-fouled,polished and service on the leg and engine, beautifull day out but alas only I dogger ( which I believe someone would have been happy to catch) and 2 small pin whiting, counted another 14 boats fishing in the same area but didn't see any net action going on. A friend of mine fished Hayling bay with again approx 15 boats in the same area,he did have one plaice at the end of the day which I'm told weighed at just over the pound, tried ragworm and fresh lug for bait.

  9. I have a chest freezer in my garage which was stocked up with approx 12 x 5lb boxes of squid,10,boxes of mini squid, packs of herring, mackerel and bluey's 10 of each, I also purchase wire baskets to sit on the top which have had frozen lug, sandeels and crabs there was also plenty of room left for freezer blocks for the cool  box on the boat.

Hope this gives you a rough idea.
