Well after reading some of the reports about local fishing I thought it was going to be a waisted trip out, departed Haslar at around 9am only to leave the entrance to Portsmouth harbour into a wall of fog, made my way to one of my marks at the blocks at Southsea for a days fishing, the sun finally burnt the mist away and it turned out to be a nice clear day and we were the only boat there untill 2 others turned up later in the day, well that's enough on the weather😃now for the fishing,it did start a bit slow but we were soon into doggers (sorry Andy couldn't be bothered to measure them) and small whiting, then came the fish we were after I had a nice knock on the rod which turned out to be a nice plaice weighing in at 2lb 10oz,not long later a thornback of 5lb came onboard and was returned to get bigger, another period follewed dogs than twp plaice one after the other both weighing in at 1lb and 1.5lb, so all in all a good day.
Must also give a shout out to Cosham angling as the ragworm was superb and at £16 per pound👍,I also took some frozen lug with me from my stock in the freeze but strangely only attracted dogs.

So 3 of us went out over the 17th and 18th April from weymouth one day on my boat one day on tims, we also had a buddy boat with us - mixed results and a very important lesson learned!
Sat 17th - Out on my boat pugwash - a 9am start as we needed to fuel up both boats first - headed out to portland harbour entrances to feather up some mackerel - sadly nothing on either entrance, or over the Hood - the tide was now starting to race out over the hood and holding the boat steady while the others feathered was good practice for me handling the boat. sadly no mackerel. so we headed to a mark between Checkers and White Nothe around 4m off.
Mixed results - i had couple of Dogs, an small eel and a small spotted ray. Tim had dogs and surprisingly a mackerel off the bottom on squid (fresh bait for sunday shambles trip), his son had a baby smoothound.
halfway through the day while sat at anchor i suddenly noticed my anchor bouy alongside the boat - i thought we had simply drifted up on the anchor, but before i had processed the thoughts the bouy was away - shackle visibly undone - bouy was just out of reach, and so was the landing net - one failed cast over it and it was disappearing with wind and tide - bit of head scratching and 1st thought was let it go, we will try to lift the anchor by hand, or use our buddy boat to recover it for us when we are done. 2nd thought was to attach our fenders to the anchor rope, leave it, go retrieve the anchor bouy and return to the fenders and re attach to the anchor - part one went without a hitch - collected the bouy, located the fenders and re attached to the anchor. we still had an issue though - the bouy was in the boat - the alderney ring was 70ft down on the anchor by now - so part 2 was a moment of genious - we fashioned a new alderney ring out of a bucket handle - held with a shackle and cable ties - when it came to lift anchor we attached the bucket handle & bouy and hoped for the best - and it mostly did the job - we didn't get the chain through it, but managed to handball that up. problem solved, all gear retrieved.
On the sunday we headed out on Tims boat to the shambes to drift for turbot - no joy after 2 drifts and it was very lumpy, so we went and anchored on the adamant shoal - i had 5 doggies and a bigger spotted ray on my last drop, tim had doggies and whiting, and his son improved on his smoothound with fish of the weekend.
on the other boat they had thornies, spotted rays, dogs and spider crabs.
lesson - check all your shackles are tight and probably best to cable tie them - and always buy decent buckets.

Not much to report really, another trip to Hayling Bay on Sunday in flat sea's we were the first boat there to drop anchor and it wasn't long before we had dog fish action I even managed the smallest dogger that I have ever caught which was just bigger than the palm of my hand (wish I had taken a picture of that lovely puppy for you know who🤣) we also had smoothounds, small whiting and at the end of the day I picked up a plaice weighing in at just over pound and half.
Nice to be out there even though the sea's did get up a bit later in the afternoon and looks as if the winds will be about all week so that will stop me getting out midweek to try yet again.

Went down the boat on the Saturday night
Had a few jobs to do on her before the trip the next day.
Getting the boat off her swinging mooring and back to the pontoon in the dark on my own was a bit of a job. All went well it's such a good feeling once you have the boat Safe on the pontoon.
Got up 6am after a cold night on the boat
Weather was perfect. Two mates turned up at 6.15am
We left at 6.30am heading for Dean tail to see if we could catch some early mackerel
We had a few drifts over the wreck at Dean Tail picked up two foul hooked whiting but no mackerel. Must be full of whiting there.
After about an hour at Dean Tail we headed out to the Boulder Banks and The Swashway. Got all the bling rigs out I had pre made for the plaice only to catch Dogfish after Dogfish (I will give you the mark Andy if you are interested 😅)
    Sorry Mate couldn't help myself
We tried at anchor and on the drift but the plaice didn't want to play today. We caught about 15 Dogs
The sea was lovely and smooth and there was a few boats out there.
Wind started to pick up in the afternoon
One of my mates started to go quite and I new where this was heading.
Let's just say it's a pitty we wasn't sharkimg plenty of chum.
I decided to go back and fish the blocks nearer home and a bit calmer. I set up light rods and tackle.
Caught a lovely small Stary Smoothound
And a few more dogs they felt much better on the lighter tackle.
My mate still wasn't feeling well and hadn't eaten all day
So I decided to go back to the pontoon at Hardway where he perk up and couldn't stop eating.
All in all a good day on the boat with no problems. And no Plaice 😩
    We will try again soon
Roll on the Sharking season 👍

I did it accidentally as you know, but before hand I was thinking to myself that the manky old excuse for a tackle box was far too small and dirty. Time for a new one!
Thanks for the day out mate, it was fun to be out on Jersey girl again.
I could certainly feel the pressure building in you as you went 0-5 down.
Good job Mr Dog came along to save your embarrassments once again. The wrasse though was a very good way to top off the afternoon!
Still, a chance drop of a live peeler did steal the day, bringing in a very pissed off lady smoothound. She went to about 8-9lb, a much appreciated scrap .

I hope to be out on Sunday having another try for plaice, the blocks or hayling bay will be my destination. I have had worm from Dave's tackle in Gosport this year and it was good quality, I will be giving Cosham tackle ago as they look to have had some nice worm these last few weeks on their FB page and it's a new shop which has opened this year so will give it a try, they claim to be the cheapest in the area.
