I own and run jigabite.co.uk specialising in tackle for Popping and Jigging, especially Slow Pitch.
I've been SPJ since it began and was the first to introduce an extensive range of this specialist tackle to the UK.
I've been lucky enough to have fished in close to 50 different countries practicing all the above disciplines so have gained a fair bit of experience across the board.

Yes I bet its quite a sight down on some of the snaggy wrecks. Hazards of Jigging I'm afraid.

Slow Jigs are specifically designed to act in a certain way when in freefall so they work best with minimal end tackle restricting movement, hence a small split ring.
If you start introducing links, swivels and the kitchen sink you effect the jigs falling action so not maximising its effectiveness. 
Also have fun untangling the assist hooks every time the snag on a link, its surprising how often it will happen.
You will spend less time on a split ring than you will untangling assist hooks.
Goes without saying ,a decent pair of Split Ring pliers are a must have accessory.

I boil the kettle but the waters gone cold by the time I get to it again.

You need to spend more if you expect to be spoilt with milk and sugar!!!
