As it moves freely in everything except forward, sounds like a linkage issue, the throttle usually cant fully open until it's in gear tho, so could be last part of the cable.
Some cables are teflon coated, and you should never spray those as the coating swells making any issue worse....... I know this from experience!!

Don't need a berth and would have space for one more, where are you planning to fish ?

First thing to do is disconnect the throttle cable from the engine and ensure that the engine throttle linkage is free.
Then operate the throttle with it disconnected to see if it is still stiff, if yes, then carefully inspect the cable run for cable damage, kinks, and sharp bends.
It could be the side remote causing the issue, but that is very unusual, to test it, disconnect the throttle cable at the remote and then operate the throttle to check for stiffness. Some side remotes are PITA to pull apart, and you need six pairs of hands for reassembly.
It is really a matter of elimination, however, if you identify the cable as stiff, then don't mess about, just replace it.

Silicone may get gummy over time. If you're set on lube, perhaps try some penetrating spray first to see if that frees it off. If it does improve the throttle travel it will at least tell you that corrosion is the issue. If that's the case I'd be tempted to replace the cable. Corrosion will mean the cable strands have weakened and you don't want it to let you down at sea.

Yeah my first thought was something similar, I usually use a silicone spray grease.
After a search today online most people do say not to lube the wrong parts as this can cause more issues so I'm going to have to watch a tutorial I think

What's the history of the boat and how long since it was on the water last? I'm wondering whether the throttle cable has corroded and is binding up inside the sheath. If so, the best cure would be cable replacement but you might get away with plenty of lube and regular use.

Haha you know me too well , we went down to Netley Abbey, chucked the anchor over and had some lunch, didn't have that long but just wanted to get out.
Handled ok, bit rocky when the ferry's went past but got up to about 15 knots, moves pretty well actually and seems easy to handle

Nothing wrong with them unless you want to catch a specific species. And yes I’ve heard they are real tasty although never tried them myself.

No, not too late at all. Meeting at Mercury Yacht Harbour on the Hamble, then out to fish the Solent, then back to Mercury for beers and food in the evening. There will also be a pre-meet on the Friday night before fishing on the Saturday.
