Friday is only mid size tide so i would of thought would be ok. Don't fish there myself to often but the charters do sometimes, i think mainly on the bigger tides as there will be less tide in the bay. Kayakers were picking up some good cod a from there a few years ago but haven't heard of much lately from them.

@Tony Hi Tony Think i fished with you when you skippered The Enterprise from Portishead? Nice boat by the way

So was I but he gave me a fillet so happy days.

Got the boat out for the first time in 2 months just a short one over high. Very cold start and a frozen tell tale held us up a little but it soon defrosted and we were on our way. No bites for half an hour then my dad hooked a decent fish which stayed deep all the way to the boat and up popped a nice cod 10-11. Thought we were gonna bag up but it turned out a slow session. Around a dozen dogs, a few eels and whiting but no rays, sun was out all day though and temps got up to at least 2 degrees so still great day out on flat seas.

Come on then... who's out at the weekend?

Who did you use? We have an Optimax on ours so always interested to hear about good mechanics -
Money wise 10 miles extra travelling in your boat is probably the equivalent of 150 miles in a car. If you really want threshers then i would go east of Plymouth but you only need to steam 20-25 miles.

Nice one Ian. I am looking to get down in the next 3 weeks as we haven't managed to get down there this year yet
-
yes the boat was stationary but was a bit sloppy out there

Hi Andy that bass was from a wreck about 7 miles out. To rough out there so took the picture when we came inshore to calmer waters

Just had 5 days down in a wind swept Fowey. Conditions were challenging and w only managed a couple of short sessions offshore wrecking and sharking the rest of the time we were stuck inshore. 2 small blues and a cracking thresher around 200lb plus plenty of pollack and a bass off a couple of wrecks. Lots of other species inshore but no plaice this year.

Prop bush possibly. Do you have another prop you could try? -
Anchor mate, the water there is full of sediment so zero visibility. We don't tend to drift unless we go past Porlock into the clearer water.

In the solent i would use a single whole squid with 2 or 3 black lug elasticated along it fished on a pennel rig with a 5/0 J hook on the bottom and a 4/0 chinu as the top hook. Second choice would be cuttle. Years ago we did quite well on frozen spider peeler.

Well spotted, edited now😄

Had a club comp last weekend, a species hunt with no minimum sizes just a picture required of each fish. Weather wasn’t ideal for travelling down channel to the clearer water so the 3 boats and 8 anglers all stayed local. We fished 6 different marks throughout the day and I managed 6 species which was enough to take 1st place. I had bass, Thornback, conger, tope, hound and dogfish and believe it or not I was the only one to land a doggie so that was the fish that won me the comp, I actually had 3 of them. Overall a reasonable day and good to get out again

what about a wrap?

Had the week off - plenty of fishing and a few targets acheived!

Start Rescue, much better than AA. I've had to use them twice in cars, once before lockdown and once this year, been spot on both times and recovered within an hour at weekends. Got the trooper covered with the AA as Smart have a 7 metre maximum on trailers and have broken down twice without the boat on and taken minimum of 4 hours to be recovered. -
That was between 4 of us. We did have spells of 30 minutes without a bite which is unusual this time of year
