  1. @mike farrantsif you speak to @Maverick or @MegaBytethey can get you signed up as a member of Poole bay small boat angling club. They have a water skills training school associated to them that give member discounts. Might save you a quid or two!!
  2. My replies from Hempel.... Neil Firstly, thank you for your Hempel purchases. I’m glad to hear you’ve had good results with Hard Racing. As for your transducer, if the unit is bronze you should be ok, the product shouldn’t interfere with the workings at all, if you’ve got a nylon/plastic transducer I have concerns that the solvents in the Hard Racing, which are quite aggressive, may damage the unit. I’ve attached a copy of our paint manual which should answer any of your questions but, please do feel free to contact me directly if you’ve any further queries Regards Adrian Hi Adrian Many thanks for your swift response. Yes the transducers are of a plastic construction. I realise that AF’s of old were more “toxic” than the newer green versions. So, are there still a lot of corrosive chemicals in the new variants ? I thought most were more water based so less fierce? Neil They’ve certainly reduced the “nasties” in antifoul, but they’re still essentially copper, pigment, resins and solvents. They’re all solvent based I’m afraid, and it’s those bits that concern me with a plastic txdcr. I’ll check with a few yards I know and see what experience they’ve had, it must be a fairly common issue. Give me a few hours and I’ll get back to you Neil Just checked with a couple of applicators and they’ve all overcoated plastic txdcrs without any issues. It’s probably worth testing a bit before proceeding though Good luck Ok, thanks Adrian. Last question.... do Hempel do a primer specific for plastic ? In your booklet only metals, Grp and woods are mentioned! Neil, You can you Light Primer on many plastics, only use a thin coat as the solvents are strong. If you’re using this on your transducer you’ll also need a thin coat of Underwater Primer as a tie-coat between the 2.
  3. You could be writing your next article.... “ how to drag up @headlight from the deep”!!
  4. Funnily enough I was just about to email Garmin! I will report back.
  5. @Maverick and @MegaByte should be able to help you out with tips. They’re both from Poole, so not a million miles from you.
  6. Nice pic, and a nice boat. Looks like the photo was taken by a drone?
  7. Mick, when you ring do you speak direct to the company owner (Mark?) or one of his yard rats? He does have a quite good reputation for selling honest boats. If I were you, try to speak to the organ owner and not the monkeys. Then give him an ultimatum, send the parts next day delivery to the correct address or take the boat back and gain a shit review on google. See how quick he jumps then. Nothing like a poor internet review to effect a business. I presume your mechanic has checked the rest of the engine?? If it’s all ok, gets the parts, repair the engine and enjoy the boat. Chalk it up to experience and move on.
  8. Well it’s been debated that standard anti foul eats the plastic of the transducer!
  9. Try being me, I’m slap bang in the middle of the bastard.
  10. Hi Mike, she looks like a nice older girl. And in seemingly good condition. Bet you will have many memorable days on her. love the name btw!
  11. 8/10 Question though........ apart from referees and gym teachers, what trade uses a whistle?
  12. Yeah I’ve researched the echo fouler and it seems to be pants Martin. Most people saying how ineffective it is. That’s why I’m looking for a plastics primer I can use first then put normal AF on.
  13. Lovely rig Bunny. It’s good to hear she gets used and abused too!! We have a boat meet in July (Covid allowing), Southampton is the venue..... fancy an adventure??
  14. Can anybody see a potential problem using this kind of plastics primer before anti fouling the transducer?
  15. Still got my Leo Gamelli V neck and burgundy stay press too.
  16. 3/10, felt like I was back in the 80’s for a moment.
  17. If your after good bass on the drift then Yarmouth deep is worth a go!
  18. Don’t forget steve, Andy’s not an angler. He’s a dog catcher.
  19. Well if you’ve done all of the suggestions as above and all checks out ok, then I’d say your at you optimum performance. Unless as @Andy135 says, your prop is slipping.
  20. Welcome Bunney, hope you enjoy the site.
