Saintly Fish reacted to Malc in They're back!!!
The silver darlings are back, my favourite fish! Just a quick 2-3 hour session in the river as there was a lot of big traffic coming in and out. The fish were staying well away from the deeper channels and seemed to be picking off bait fish near to the rock ledges, both mackerel and herring were thin on the ground but I kept 3 mackerel that were badly hooked and one herring as I juggled the other back into the sea 🤦♂️
Late lunch of herring with a green and a potato salad.

Short trip yesterday over high from Burnham On Sea. Stayed on the one mark looking for hounds. Slowish day though we did find half a dozen hounds to low doubles, thornbacks, straps, too many dogs and a tiny tope for myself for our club species hunt

Saintly Fish reacted to Andy135 in SPJ Sunday, western Solent
Early start on Sunday morning for a jigging trip. Plan was to be on the mark for low water. A foggy start saw us taking it slowly to begin with.
Conditions soon improved and we made good time to the mark. Wind was a bit stronger than forecast and kept us on our toes on the drift.
I had a decent bass early doors
But not alot else came to the boat, so we moved mark and dropped the anchor for an hour or so in a shallow water mark for smoothounds and bream. Neil got snapped off by a large Hound that took his bream rig. It made it to the surface then turned round and buggered off. Wasn't long though before Neil hooked into another.
We had a fair few bream too. No pics but one went home with Leo for tea.
On the way back home we saw a huge flock of seabirds working around Lepe and Calshot, so we paused and dropped feathers and lures. It seemed to be bass pushing sandeels to the surface, and we managed a schoolie on a slow jig on the end of some feathers.
Another good session aboard Tarlach Too. Thanks always to @Saintly Fish and Leo for skippering 👍.

Good luck, hope the weather holds and the fish show up for you. It's one hell of a tiring journey to get there, but it's well worth it! Norway is an excellent fishing destination. One I think us an OO's group should do!!

Saintly Fish reacted to Andy135 in Fastest session yet
Family coast walk to a spot we've been to many times before, but I'd not had the chance to take a rod along until now.
While the rest of the gang had their picnic lunch I headed down the steep cliffside to the water's edge, with strict instructions to be back in 30 minutes or the kids would get bored. Challenge accepted!
Once I'd found a suitable mark I tied on the old faithful 20g Major Craft slow jig in Zebra Glow. Three casts in and fish on - a decent sized mackerel for the barbecue.
A few more casts but only one tentative pluck that didn't hook up. With time ticking I called it and headed back up the cliff.
Not a bad effort for a super-speedy session. And he tasted great on the barbecue this evening with a drizzle of lemon juice, a sprinkle of salt and a cold beer.

Saintly Fish reacted to RogB in July fishing Teignmouth - not much to report
Fishing has been slow for us in July but we did manage to catch Teignmouth airshow while fishing. This was our longest day out of about 8hrs and the first time we had ever anchored since doing our Powerboat-level-2 training.
Only a couple of gurnards this trip and not much else since either kayaking inshore or fair bit further out in th boat. This is also my first video - at least the plane is impressive even of the cinematography leaves a bit to be desired🤔
PS soz no gratuitous food shots

Made our way to Gorleston harbour to jump on the High Flyer 2. The previous day the sea had been flat calm and a boat record tope was caught at 70lb. They had also had a big session on schoolie bass, tho mist were undersized. The first notable thing before casting off was there was a significant breeze, NE 12-15mph, so was going to be a bit snotty to start as wind against tide, The day was also rearranged to hit the bass marks first and do some drifts rather than be at anchor, then anchor on the tope mark once tide had turned and sea flattened off.....
Mackerel, plenty of them, all bait size, but no bass. Got harpooned by a scad, and thrown about a bit, but unlike 2 of the crew who needed to rearrange their stomach contents, all good...
The time came to hit the t5ope mark, a little bit early, but weren't too bad. First rod goes flying off... My mate to my right off of the back, then it goes quiet, dropped........ Shortly after, the rod to my left goes off, this time a 20lber on uptide to scad head. Then the tide dropped away and all went quiet, the wind switched to E, and that was us done, not a thing after that on feathers, bait or tope rigs, even with a move.
Right at the death a rod goes flying off, I jokingly said it was the seal that had been watching us for the last hour....... It was!! Hook pulled, seal reappeared to give us the flipper, and that was that.
With that we headed back in. A good day out except for the fish..... Roll on the 16th
