I cut my teeth on bass fishing at Kimmeridge  many years ago  , For many the Mecca of bass fishing  , I rarely venture west these days unless the conditions look good as it's a long slog , your so lucky in that county as your surrounded by great marks .

I've not ventured west for a while but the weather forecast was too good to miss a trip today ....
Tough start to the day in the main spot with just 1 lure caught wrasse .
So I moved on after a few hours  and managed 5 nice bass 55/60 in a quiet corner of the coast  & christen the new reel too .

I want to get back into beach fishing. So I thought I would give Gilkicker a try with my son Terry.
We got to the carpark at 8.30pm ready for the long walk. Terry is a keen Carp angler so his trolley was well appreciated

After a 1/2 mile walk we set up two rods
Terry was on Rag and squid I was on a whole squid both on pulley pennel rigs
Within 20 min Terry had a screaming run nearly took the tripod over nice 4lb Smoothound

It was 2 hours until high tide the weed was being a big problem.
    It was nearly unfishable.
We stayed until 2.30am just as we were packing up I was in. I had a nice just under 3lb Bass. Had a great time it's been too long since the son and I went fishing.
We will go back when the weed isn't such a problem. Well pleased with what we caught off the beach in difficult conditions 👍
I know it's not boat fishing but thought I would share this with you all.

I had a reasonable night on the bass even though I had three seals in front of me tonight,  All was fine whilst I waded chest deep until the biggest of the three ... Must have been a bull took a liking to my Patchinko ...it was huge and the faster I reeled the bigger the bow wave became and I could see the huge shadow under the surface   after a 40 meter chase I lifted the lure skywards from the water a few meters away from me  expecting to be no knocked over !
A lucky escape was declared  although I almost soiled my waders.
    That was a strange night.

5 bass between 45/50 the trick was trying to avoid the very small tiddlers as the place was thick with them .

Wow! Sounds like a close shave there Dave! Glad you escaped to tell the tale. Time for some new waders then?
Did you catch anything or did the seals kill the fishing?
I once had a seal take a wrasse I had hooked. All of a sudden the wrasse took off like a steam train... except it wasn't the wrasse I was playing. The seal popped its head out of the water about 30 yards away with my wrasse in its mouth. 🤬

In my local estuary, if I get a decent fish it's usually the only one of the day. So when my Patchinko 125 disappeared in an explosion of spray on the third cast this morning, I wasn't expecting much further action. The fish fought hard but my main concern was floating weed building up on the line. It was scary trying to remove it with one hand while keeping tension on the fish because I fish barbless and allowing slack in the line often results in the hooks falling out. However, all went well and a lovely plump fish of 58cm came safely aboard.
My next bass on the Patch was about half a pound, and as the flood tide increased there were no further takes. In this situation, fishing over maybe four feet of water, the answer proved to be a Hound Glide in Cotton Candy, which showed up well in the slightly stained water. I'd hardly moved the lure a yard on the first cast when the rod crashed round and the reel screamed and screamed. The bass then kited round in the tide and spent the next few minutes thudding away under the boat. When it surfaced alongside I saw it was hooked on one prong of the middle treble but the de-barbed Decoy held and with relief I guided the fish into my big net.
It's surprising how much difference 9cm in length makes to the bulk of a fish. This one was much bigger than the first at 67cm and probably around 7.5lb, lovely chunky specimen. After recovering in a tub of seawater, a quick snap and measure and it was back over the side and swimming away strongly.
Seven more bass completed the session, though they were very modest schoolies.
I've now had 14 fish of 40cm or more from this general area this season in amongst many schoolies and a few blanks.
Strangely enough, three of them taped out at 67cm, and you have to wonder....

Still to catch on a gravity stick , I have given them a couple of sessions water time and changed and caught straight away so it's a confidence thing now , they certainly look good.

That sounds really good Dave. The head scratching is my favourite bit, as long as it leads to a fish! Any joy on your gravity sticks yet?
I think they are tougher than we think because as well as being rammed with 9 big hard backs it also had an old rusty hook in its guts!!
