  1. Me...me...me! As long as the weather holds, another invite but its the quiet times here so anything is a bonus. Might concentrate on whiting and dabs for tope bait in the summer ☀ïļ
  2. Just an update. Recently I was using small green muppets baited with squid and mackerel for whiting and I had a doggie take the upper hook. The rig was not jerked up and down, just allowed to move with the motion of the boat.
  3. Yeah well I just whack my yak on the roof rack, drive to the beach or slip I want to launch from, trolley it into the oggin and offski. No faffing about 😜
  4. I'm not much of a one for poetry and such but sometimes the wordsmiths get it right. "In the offing the sea and the sky were welded together without a joint, and in the luminous space the tanned sails of the barges drifting up with the tide seemed to stand still in red clusters of canvas sharply peaked, with gleams of varnished sprits. A haze rested on the low shores that ran out to sea in vanishing flatness." Another is This gem but a bit long to copy and paste, do you have any?
  5. I did that, however I was using our tablet and I now realise I haven't logged in on it ðŸĪŠ
  6. Looking at navi Web app and I see abbreviations such as S, M and R and that's easy enough, sand mud and rock. However I am confused with two locations one is MS.G.SH and the other M.S.G/R (mud sand gravel/rock perhaps)?
  7. Unfortunately the Mediterranean Sea is virtually tideless.
  8. I can well believe it as I had a similar experience with a pollock. It had a couple of seal marks on it and I took pity on it and returned it. Couple of drifts later I hooked it again on the same lure and this time I kept it as it seemed to want to jack it all in.
  9. Forgot to add, one of the dogs was caught on baited muppets. Top technique for those in the know!
  10. Jacket as I'm a cheapskate, well I have lightweight goretex leggings and also padded nylon salopettes which won't last too long (Aldi) so they will do in the meantime. If I went one/two piece then I would not wear the old stuff I already have and it would be a waste and I can buy salopettes in a couple of years time when the cheaper stuff is wrecked or not allowed back in the house. ðŸĪŪ
  11. Thanks for that, we weren't sure ourselves and you are the second person to say.
  12. I think you need to get up here and get a double header of unicorn and doggies?
  13. Normally in the winter it's cod and a few associated species, not today! Set off from the marina at a sensible time and passed HMS Enterprise and as an ex matelot I thought that it would be excellent fun being onboard if your name is Kirk, Scotty etc. Anyhoo, out the piers and hang a stbd and drop the pick into 20 ish metres of oggin on a mixed bottom between rocky outcrops. As the tide was just ebbing nothing happened for 25-30 minutes and then I had a take able whiting which would have been good but then my mate struck into a fish which put a decent bend in his rod and we expected a decent cod as he had really big baits on. Here he is giving a cuddle to his first NE coast thorny. The tide hadn't really started and he followed it up with a doggie, and they are getting quite a regular catch on bait here now. When the tide gatherer pace we were getting shoals of codling and whiting coming past and it would get hectic for a short while. There were more dogs, whiting and codling at times throughout the day and eventually we packed up. Porpoise were around us throughout the day which was nice as well as guillemot and razorbill and the whiting were stuffed with sprats and the cod we kept, deep hooked, had crab in them, so lots of activity and lots of food for all. We didn't keep count but about 6-7 whiting, 12-15 codling, 7-8 dogs and a thorny. Some of the dogs were just mouthing the baits so were easy to return and we kept 3 whiting and codling. The fun didn't stop there, got home to a cuppa and a warm up before the rugby started and some snacks and a couple of beers watching England get a win! Happy days!
  14. Recommend me something along those lines. I have a RN goretex jacket which is great but it would be nice to have a jacket or one piece for cooler weather. Don't do much winter shore fishing but it could get me out more and I wonder if a floatation suit suit both boat and shore? Pros and cons of them? Many thanks.
  15. Sunday! Yay, an invite and the place was stuffed with codling this weekend....so possibly a blank next Sunday ðŸŽĢ😁
  16. Nice report and nice clean looking codling
  17. Lots of them have flavours and salt and are still a bait 😜
  18. Yeah I was trying to NOT watch an hour or more of an American chap who doesn't get out much or a 3 minute "...gosh, wow!" show.
  19. My friend has just bought and fitted one, any tips on how to get the best from them, especially side scan?
  20. Not sure what diameter breakout wires are? Remember to soot the wire in a candle first so it doesn't stick
  21. Drill out the the nose of the right size of lead weight mold? DCA have single wire rather than loop so try there first HERE'S ONE
  22. Slightly bigger but real mad prices... HERE We used to live 8 miles or so away and in the late 80's considered buying one but it would have cost us all my resettlement grant of ÂĢ1100. 😭
