    Big seas

Yeah to both. I've seen big seas do the same up in Scotland but mainly shellfish. There were a few cormorants in the shallow water on the river side doing well but you could see that they were struggling too as even there the surf was 8' or so with bigger rollers every now and again. The surfers must have known the area and the risks as we were speaking to a couple in the pub who surf and they say it is supposed to be good but very hairy at times
  3. We went for a walk yesterday afternoon to South Shields, our local ish beach, as my wife collects and uses sea glass. The sea was dying away and as we were walking I ended up collecting loads of beads and daylights (just the plastic parts) and other useful bits and pieces. There were quite a few dead fish about, whiting, flats, sprats, sandeel and a decent sized rockling too. The pier, a mile long, was locked and you can see the waves coming over the end. It was bigger Thursday and more waves were breaking over the lighthouse. There were some surfers in the river as there is a big reef called the black middens and the sea was breaking over it, there was even one SUP surfer too! Brave guys. The sup surfer is the small black dot in the middle of the photo, the larger dark blob is one of the channel markers. Sorry for the grainy picture but my phone zoom is rubbish.

    Woke

Ferk me, what a bunch of wailing fannybaws! "I don't like/understand all this wokey gender stuff !" It's a joke section not gammon support centre (Tel. No. 0800 growaset)
  5. Might have to get the long rods out the loft and frozen lumps out of the freezer.
  6. Similar to squid, I prefer it cooked for an hour though unless you want to cut it into thin strips
  7. Pollock is good in Thai green curry (and possibly red too), you can use the packet variety or jar. Marinade the chunky neck ends in some of the sauce then stat preparing the peppers or whatever veg you like. Fry the veg first, add the sauce for 5 minutes and add the coconut milk, as the sauce thickens lay the chunks of fish on the veg and put a lid on. After 2 minutes of low heat spoon some sauce over the fish, do it again and if it looks a bit firm or the chunks are big, have a third 2 minute steam. When serving I put the chunks on a separate warm plate then plate up the rice or noodles, spoon on half/three quarters the veg and sauce, then the fish and finally the rest of the sauce and veg. Coriander and fresh lime to garnish.
  8. Wow! Funny you should say that, but I was recently thinking about foods and altered states. Chillies, strong cheese and jamon bellota do it to me and first couple of oysters I had did but not now.
  9. I had 2, both were given to recovery firms, several firms for each, but nothing happened. *DISCLAIMER* I was living in Scotland at the time so apparently they can't pursue. Not sure about here in England now but a Web check will help you.
  10. Never tried it before but wanted to, may take a while to catch one up here.
  11. It may upset someone but there is money to be made in Spain... ...I noticed them on the slab in the supermarket too, along with a few conger as well! Strange how markets change, we had lots of octopus and cuttlefish in the restaurants one year and another baby squid a couple of inches long, this year it's doggies, oxtail and anchovies.
  12. I think someone was having a laugh when they got this one approved.
  13. I asked but not sure, bream types I think I also watched a guy reel in, possibly after a bite, he just gave a couple of turns then stopped, much like if you were scratching for flatties. Most rigs were flappers or running ledger and there must be a reef offshore as the boats were always in an area about a mile off.
  14. Bit of a lump on the Med this evening, plenty of chuck n chance out there but just a few left at 22-30. Some of the waves were big enough to push some fresh salt water into the river, I wonder if that has an affect on the river anglers?
  15. Nah, this is an RnR holiday. Mucho lounging and mucho bebida y comida!
  16. Went for a walk after breakfast to see whether anyone was fishing. Two guys were on the opposite bank and I saw the guy by the bridge hook and land a small bleak like fish which was quickly returned. Tactics seemed to be throw in a half slice of white that was wet and mushed up in water then lobbed in to break up then a waggler (I think) and a sizeable chunk of bread on the hook. Bites were constant and the float was under more than on the surface but he didn't strike much. I went 100m further down and there was one guy spinning. 20 minutes later and I was getting close to the bridge and the guy is into a decent fish. Looks like a mullet of a pound or two which also was returned. Not bad in 20'C and parakeets flying past...
  17. Walked along the beach tonight and there were a few out fishing, 6 and 8oz breakaway leads and whole squid on pennel rigs it wasn't. Then it was tapas and beverages...
  18. Funny that you should mention that. It appears that the Scandinavian women's idea of swimwear atm is thongs. Stay with me here; I was in the pool swimming with my wife and she said to a guy about our age, "You have a great tan" he smiled but we don't think that he understood but smiled. I took her to task and called her a tart trying to pick up guys at the pool, but her answer was, "You said that there were a lot of nice bottoms on show!" I replied that I didn't go up to them and say "Nice.... She conceded the point.
  19. I make my own mainly 2-4oz bombs for the kayak and also have 3-4oz pear shaped watch moulds. I need to make up some more but will have to use my daughters garage as its too cold outside to get good pours and my shed is too small. I also have 2 jig head moulds which are good.
  20. I need the seat as I am bladdered. San Mig, una canà, and apart from that one and one I am using to wash down my pan y Manchego curado, are the only ones I've had as yet. Setting out after sunset along the beach as there are usually a few people fishing, then beverages and tapas
