  1. Looks like one hefty two hook set with the spiral link and alloy crimps which may have had the luminous tubing too as the snood swivels were trapped between luminous beads, two other bits of odd swivel and beads, then some of the black line for making snoods (can't think of the name atm) and a set of daylights there was also a good length of 80lb shock leader but that might have been part of something already mentioned. Possibly 5 different rigs? Both the luminous tubing and daylights hooks were either well rusted or totally missing and I agree that this is a good sign but it asks questions about lure hooks which seem to be quite resistant to corrosion.
  2. Not that kind, but I am a bit of a tackle tart and I also don't like seeing tackle lying around on beaches and piers. Yesterday when my wife and I were walking along the beach I spotted a carrier bag sized lump of weed and line, so I picked it up with the intention of binning it but as there were a good few beads in it I took it home to recycle what I could. Now the pier next to the beach is frequented by mackerel bashers of all varieties, bait gatherers, doped up young lads, holiday makers, and various different nationalities of people who want to fill their freezer. So mostly I find daylights etc or heaps of nylon and the occasional lead weight, this time it was a little different in among the weed and line. Alloy line crimps, huge link swivels, the orange line is 80lb or so and so stiff but the line on the other side is 15lb or so, the tubes look to be luminous and slid onto fine wire hooks that were whipped to the line even though they had eyes??? Anyhow, I now have some throwaway bits n bobs to be hurled into kelp gulleys or lowered into snaggy reefs. Perhaps I shouldn't be worried about my tackle when you see stuff like this. BTW if you wonder why daylights etc are so cheap, I'm surprised that the hooks last one outing as I rarely find the hook but the rest of the gear is still there!
  3. That's cause my ducky cup is getting a decoke in the kitchen with my brewing sterilising solution. Hell yeah, I was researching something so I can write a short essay and that's what I used to munch when doing research for my thesis and the boss bought them for me. She's a keeper!
  4. How about something similar in the meantime? You know how people take pictures when lying on a lounger next to the pool, their lower legs and toes, perhaps a glint of sun and a long cold drink in a frosted glass? What about pics of retired old fart's toes with TV in the background, tea and snacks during a break in binge watching "Inside Man" because its been pouring down?
  5. Will do, just need the right conditions and I will be out, but I bet the right conditions will happen when I am munching on calamari and glugging Alhambra in a few weeks time!
  6. Pretty much what I am intending to do, would like the yamashita but as squid are not caught or, possibly more importantly, not fished for, I will wait until I get pulls or a squid or two before shelling out big style. I have casting lures of several sizes and a few for droppers along with in line glowing commercial jigs. I have a couple of spots to try, one of which has had a report of one being caught and another where people report getting pulls but not getting fish or crabs on baits. Both are on estuary mouths so I presume that I should try when there is low fresh flows. There are 30-40'+ channels nearby and mainly sand bottoms. Idea is to fish close to channels late afternoon and as dark falls back onto the shallower sand.
  7. ...please. Sandy areas? Early evening/night close in? Favourite colours? Anything else? Many thanks

    Fowey so far

Nice report! I've got to try for 🦑 next time I go out
  9. This is ours, features in the gangster flick Sexy Beast, with Ray Winston, Ben Kingsley, Ian McShane and the lovely Amanda Redman https://youtu.be/F6ZQgxhl5sc
  10. Problem with Plymouth is it is set back from the sea as such by about 2-3 miles plus you may have to go around Drakes Island which adds on a bit more distance, all of which will add a fair bit to fuel costs.
  11. That top picture is my idea of heaven. Thanks for posting
  12. We are hoping that she will go to the local school which is about 2-300m away from us👍🏻
  13. Stuff the fishing we had a great day. Swimming pool in the morning, snacks afterwards, snooze for the little tyke and another cuppa for grandad, lunch then meeting friends and finally an hour at the beach throwing stones in the water, saying hi to the dogs, paddling, running, drawing in the sand with sticks, fingers and ice cream afterwards. If I went fishing I'd be asleep by now and waking up tomorrow aching all over. It's the little things.
  14. Hope to be out Tuesday but will have to try somewhere away from the rivers
  15. Yeah, the marina that my friends moor in has them growing on the pontoons, all you need is a landing net and something to scrape them off with. I presume that there will be plenty of youtube videos to show you how to open them, but never use a sharp knife!
  16. Is that code for something else 🤔
  17. That's terrible, drag your tub up here and I have a few marks for cod and pollock you can try. 😁
  18. It probably would work but it's much better for shore fishing just after an onshore gale in the winter. I think you would be better off with squid/lug/frozen prawn etc as they give off good scent, are what they expect to find and aren't as costly. I really rate mussel for cod, lovely scent trail but needs whipped on gently or encased in a squid mantle
  19. It's a shore bait used when there has been rough weather as that is what they would expect to find. Small (4" mantle) squid stuffed with the chopped head etc, lug, mussel and anything else you have. You can even build it onto the hook and snood and place it in the freezer so that you are ready to rock and roll. If doggies, crab and tings are a pest try filling the nylon mesh skins that garlic bulbs come in with all things tasty and 4/0 - 6/0 hook/s to garnish. If you're drifting try muppets or similar baited with mackerel.

    Jig Heads

Sorry to resurrect the thread but I'm with GPSGURU, using a texas rig is ideal on those occasions but they need to be cast. My favourite way is to be 10m off the structure and drifting alongside it, cast over and as soon as the lure hits the surface put the bail over and feel the lure drop through the water column, any stop you should strike and count down the first cast so you know the "depth" and it's just a case of retrieving at different levels. If it takes say 10 seconds to hit bottom, next cast wind at 8, then 7 etc but I wouldn't go to mid water unless very shallow. I use jelly worms and also red Gill evo stix and retrieve is as slow as possible.
  21. The scales need to come off or they would choke you. I was finding them on me all of yesterday as they seem to stick to skin like they are super glued on.
