  1. Fishing related too. Late 82 and we (HMS Glasgow) had been patched up and returned to patrol the Falklands. Long story short we were given permission to go fishing on the Warrah River, or possibly a tributary on West Falkland 🇫🇰. On return in the chopper we were to stop off at an unknown aircraft crash site the crew spotted inbound. It was an Argentinian etendarde (sp?) and as the officers took the details etc we robbed it for what is commonly known as "gizzits". Mine was the stator blade and we got a big bit of fuselage to put up in the mess. There are other stories too, feeding a pig bacardi, stealing a land rover and rolling it in a minefield and lots more. The stator blade... For those with a military or historical interest here's part of the 1000lb bomb that didn't explode but did a fair bit of damage to the ship.
  2. Depends on what it is pushing, we needed two RR Olympus marine gas turbines to get 30ish kn. I've got a damaged stator blade from an etendarde if your short 🤣
  3. Good luck, we are hoping to be in the Mull of Galloway in early June which makes it a bit harder but I'm looking forward to it 🦈
  4. From a kayak I use, very rarely, a thin warp perhaps 1.5mm as I only have a .75kg folding anchor however when out with my friends on their boat it's a hefty Bruce with chain and the warp is polypropylene and usually use an alderney ring to retrieve. So what and why do you use? I think I have the basics about chain and warp length it's more about the practicalities that you have found out over time. TIA
  5. When are you going out?
  6. You could try them on drifts by casting them downtide as far as possible and winding hard. I have some similar and they hammer down faster than you might think. A friend used them over rough ground for pollock to good effect, I've only tried the once...nada
  7. I empathise, there are a few about and hopefully in May or June they will have recovered from spawning and packed on some weight. A friend has also reminded me that we are also going to see if we can get a Northumbrian LSD 😁
  8. Plaice and a few other flats, double figure cod and pollock from the kayak, and a tope but not from the kayak. I have seen my friend's video of trying to land a 40lb fish and he came out second best but fortunately no claret.
  9. Nothing has changed there then, they get all sorts of things wrong do they have a proof reader?
  10. I am, Scotland and England to win, what's not to like? 🐑🌰😭
  11. Too lumpy here, but the positive I take from that is; the rugby is on and the pub is ten minutes away 😜🏉🍻
  12. Yes, should have said! I use it separately from the fishing rod due to lack of hands etc when on the yak. The cod enjoyed mouthing the lead weight I think and a couple of times the camera was nibbled by fish, you should be able to see my lure(s) in a few of the shots including a missed take from a small codling.
  13. Here you go, apologies for the camera movement and lack of slick editing 😁 https://youtu.be/qcx8J4ZgKug https://youtu.be/P4fZzIVogRw Second one I should have put the lures down first! I am hoping to make a rig to stop the camera swinging around to lessen the seasickness 🤣 the camera is 8' or so above the lead weight and generally I kept the lead about a foot above the reef. Last time I used it I found that I had a dead pixel(s) which is annoying but I will keep it going for the foreseeable as I get a lot of information from them like wrasse and ling just watching it go by and little bits like how many urchins are in some areas and I often wonder how on earth I don't get snagged up more.
  14. Interesting difference of thoughts here. Accepted wisdom for plaice is movement and attractions/bling, turbo and brill similar but difference of opinion on bling all are sight hunters and predators, we could also lump flounder in there too. If you are at anchor with just four or five rods out boat movement will add a bit of an attraction, as will the anchor chain and movement of a dropper/net/bag. Compared with a charter boat and 12-20 sets of gear like for like the charter should get more? I also wonder how much disturbance is too much. I noticed that (in regards to kayak fishing) if I caught a few cod, and particularly Pollock over a small reef, it would go quiet and the only way to start catching again was to drift off the mark parallel to it and cast over (30-60ft depth). I have a water wolf camera and have several hours of film drifting over the reefs and it is always amazing to see how fish react to your lures as well as how disinterested they can be. I will have to take it out on my friends boat and see what happens when we are at anchor bait fishing for cod etc and also when we go out west for tope, hounds, Huss and TBR.
  15. Time of arrival? Just launch the seadart missile, that'll find it!
  16. No comic book tabs anymore?
  17. Plymuff looks like its slipping into the sea! Nice motor, welcome!
  18. Some bronze slabs Caught in mid May when the water was full of sandeel, joeys and guillemots, 40ft of water 200m out Achtung, dive, dive, dive! Come to daddy 🙂
  19. Just post some bass pics, or turbos.....LSD`s?
  20. Short spined sea scorpion, or as they get called up here a granny fish
  21. I`m bored as I am awaiting the kitchen being fitted so I`m going to see if I can post up some recent catches (past 4-5 years) for those who like to see a few fish. I`ll get some new ones hopefully when the hurricane season passes 🙂 First up a smallish wrasse to a cheb rigged creature and on a sidewinder minnow Yay, it worked! Afew of those things you guys call unicorns I believe... Sometimes two at a time Sometimes funny coloured kelp codling Pot bellied pigs Not a cod, and apologies for the rubbish pic but ia lunker like that wasn`t staying in the water to be photographed, too many seals around.... Oddities... Is it a gremlin? Nope a SSSS And a wrestling match to unhook and I had 3 from 3 different drifts that day! Hope it floats ya boat.
  22. That was the type of thing I was thinking about but using plastic drain pipe, one for my friends boat and a smaller one for my kayak.
  23. Bags, nets, droppers etc What do you use? I'm leaning towards a dropper for a variety of reasons, small amounts at regular intervals, so it is a controlled system. It's in the main for attracting a variety of species in shallow (sub 100') water, such as tope/Huss/LSD'S cod and ting, flats big and small (possibly even halibut!) No stories about vom or pot noodles please (probably the same thing)
  24. I'd be interested in how this pans out as I would not want to hurt a fish unknowingly.
