  1. Excellent, seemed to be a lovely day eventually.
  2. Did the biz, they landed 2 in the 180 bracket and lost a much bigger one on the surface unfortunately.
  3. My friends are having a well deserved weekend away after dabs off the west coast and sent me a picture of the bait! 2 landed and one lost on the surface!
  4. Hell yeah! I have a run set up next to the wood shed made of loose bricks and one in the garden shed to stop any attempts to settle in our cosy accommodation.
  5. Handy for nobbling those pesky pests. Unfortunately the alarm gun can't fit a full cartridge, just the short blanks but guaranteed to cause underwear to be messed-up
  6. They certainly can. I also have for sale some fenn Mk4 rat traps if anyone is interested?
  7. Yes, I'm sure that they would fit. If you only had a few 200gm jigs you could possibly remove some of the longitudinal section to accommodate the bigger jigs?
  8. No, length is OK but width is a max of 6cm as below. Wots a birthday card?
  9. Just got one for my birthday, surprisingly good for around £25, 6 large plastic boxes and 2 smaller ones. I have plenty of lure boxes to swap into it and use these boxes for smaller items like hooks, chebs, weighted heads, clips, swivels etc Worth a look if you're not a tackle snob, but the last one I got from lidl/aldi eventually died of a seized zip so will need lube or wax.
  10. Not many up this far unfortunately, I'm in the Tyne and Wear area, plenty of sandeel and herring as well as whiting.
  11. Oh, that's a bit different, most of the other recommendations I have heard before. We know that there are fish inshore and although most are little saucers there are bigger ones being caught from the shore. It's a long strip of sand with heavy rock either end and well offshore the trawls pick them up, however we do get lots of launce and there are some good areas of tide with reasonable banks of sand etc so the potential is there so we need to change tactics and area to see whether they are there.
  12. That's telling as it would be a similar idea.
  13. That'll do as well but I know that there are inshore turbos, some good ones too, but an offshore one would be nice and I have never landed one before. Brill would be great but not heard of them up here.
  14. If you were on new ground and wanted to tackle turbot what would you be looking for? Fast tidal runs, bait fish, scours round wrecks, sand (mud/gravel...) between rocks, sudden sandy drops? Many thanks ya'll!
  15. I don't rinse, just a wet cloth, kitchen roll dry then a wipe with a little oil. Every so often I oil the handle linkages etc and then the roller arm bearing as there is always some splashing or spray on the kayak or boat.
  16. Not had either of those problems on either mine?
  17. Shimano eager 4000 for me, I even bought a second but they are out of production I think. My wife has an okuma 2500 that has lasted well if you want something smaller?
  18. Just mould it round the hook and dropped into cold water, it seemed to work pretty good as I don't remember any frustration with it coming off. Trying to keep the fish out of the pier legs or the stabiliser fins was interesting though.
  19. I used to fish down the side of the piers in Portland Harbour in the good old days when we could shove leftovers into the grinder and discharge straight over the side, the sound of the gash gobbler was a dinner bell to the mullet and bass, dairylea cheese was a good bait iirc.
  20. Some people say that they are like a sack of spuds but this was something else! A small bag of baby boilers. The snag gave my new fin nor a good work out, I think that it was a lost pot line, I enjoyed it so much I hooked it twice!
  21. Getting quite common unfortunately
  22. Howling wind but got baits down and managed four species between the three of us and instead of codling photos, have a North Sea doggie 😀
  23. Possibly but being a tight git I still look after my gear.
  24. I buy cheaper ones because they get lost or broken and I prefer to spend my dosh on other things, but I have a dark pair from Argos, Dunlop sports wrap arounds which were about £20-30 and a lighter coloured pair from Amazon also wrap around £35 ish so I have a pair for bright sun and darker days. Although they are cheap I can't fault them and I have them on a lanyard that loops into my hat band so less likely to lose if I fall off my kayak or lean over the side of the boat. I'm too tight to buy glasses that cost in the hundreds unless they are for reading.
