So the plan was to head over to Lulworth again for the Bream on Tims boat - but as he was returning from a trip out the day before - he glanced over at a charter boat and saw someone pull in a red band fish - with the mark noted - we had a slight change of plan! we decided have a go on them before we head to lulworth - we've never seen one let alone caught one - but do know that Weymouth and portland is known for them!
They like small baited hooks/sabikis so we grabbed some rag and headed to the spot - 2 of us had fish skin sabikis and jason had tinsly ones - he dropped down first without bait and literally in minutes had one -

Wow! a red band fish on his first drop - then he had a 2nd on his 2nd drop and you guessed it a 3rd on his 3rd - we all tried for an hour but only Jason got them in the first few minutes - on his unbaited tinsly sabikis.
I did manage a mackerel though on mine!
we soon headed over to lulworth, anchored up and settled in for a day of drizzle - flat calm - almost eerie.
I had spotted ray, conger and dogs, Tim had bream - one monster 3.5lber, a grey gurnard, dogs and 2 mackerel, cant remember what Jason had - thornie rays i think.

we tried for the red band fish again on the way home but only had a few more mackerel between us.
good that the mackies are showing up and great targeting and seeing such a rare fish as the Red band fish - wonderful purple tinge along its fin edges - pictures dont do it justice!

and Tim gave me his bream for tea!

    Epic day out!

All returned, I decided to return all cod this year unless they are deep hooked or blown etc after seeing the stats for them. Not pontificating just my preference.

Got out Sunday instead of Saturday on my friends' boat out of the Tyne. Overcast and pretty much flat we had a few inshore wrecks in mind and settled for one that is easily spotted on the sounder. Second drift got us right over her and I had a nice plump codling of about 2lb on the drop I thought it was bigger but the drift was 1.7 kn and with its mouth wide it was a bit of a drogue. Few more drifts, some on, some off I managed another a little bigger and one for my friend. Because the drifts were fast, the fish tight to the wreck and because the wreck was lying 90' to the drift we upped sticks and drifted a reef that would give us plenty of time and opportunity for fish, however there weren't many but we did get another 3 or 4. On the way back we wanted to fish a wreck that produced a good few fish a couple of weeks ago and found a boat anchored over it, but as we were passing they picked up and moved on. 3 drifts but nothing.
Great to be out and catching a few, all returned to get bigger so that we can catch them again. Sorry for the lack of pictures but you know what a Codling looks like and I was having too much fun 😁

Nearest one is in the Irish sea (well off the headland in the picture)and we will be fishing the Luce Bay area tides seem to be quite sluggish towards Sandhead and Glenluce but more flow near Drummore. It is not a big deal and it is probably just my way of thinking as a kayak fisherman but we will be on my friends boat so tides shouldn't be such a big thing.
    Many thanks for the replies!

@Andy135 is on the money, use your plotter or navionics and just click on the nearest triangle with a 'c' in it. These are called tide stations, and it will give you the tidal flow and direction (usually true as opposed to mag) for various states of the tide. Even if the triangle is a few miles away, it normally means that the tides are quite stable over that entire area.
5 or so years ago, I would have pointed you in the direction of a Tidal Stream Atlas. I always used to carry one on the boat, but not these days as the plotted gives me much more info, and instantly.

Think I have got there. I am using the online navi Web app not the actual app as I found a box with a C in but miles away. However there was a box with a T in it and when I clicked, like you do on the wrecks, the box comes up but doesn't give me weather or tide strength info etc but did give the present tide height and says it is only available on the app.

Here's an example of how a mobile view of currents appears on the Navionics Boating App (the paid-for version of the free Navionics Web App). It should show current speed and direction per hour. Do you have a view like this?

The regular web app version has dynamic tidal current info too. Example screenshots below, taken 5 mins apart, showing how the current speed changes with time from 2.2kts to 2.3kts.
