daio web reacted to Odyssey in bc report
We get thousands of the rugs further down the down the channel. They can often do a good job of starting off feeling like a cod when you get them moving. If they are that far up the channel it adds to the disappointment when you think it’s a unicorn but no, it’s a blonde 🤣

If your posting pics from the phone (mines an iPhone), choose the option to "show selected size" at the bottom. Then choose a smaller size of photo.
It helps to crop your photos by a small bit before hand too.

Id say a blonde too. Although the colour is deceiving. Looks real prehistoric.

Hi Dave, glad you finally got out to catch some fish. Sounds like you had a good day out. The garmin stuff is quite easy to get your head around, you just need to find the time to sit there and pootle about trying different settings etc. If you have any serious difficulties then the Garmin UK technical help line is very useful. The operators are knowledgable and helpful.
For now though, if you can email me the pics I'll put them up for you.
Thanks for sharing your report!

daio web reacted to Saintly Fish in baiting up
@daio web I use bait elastic on everything. It helps hold the bait on the hook and in place so that it doesn't slip down and mask the hook. Also for mackerel or other fish baits it helps to keep it together and slow down the disintegration of smaller fish picking at the loose bits.
Never leave home without it.

Just get two receipts, one you can use to insure it (high) and one for the border crossing (low).

daio web reacted to fishybuisness in 15th July - Another nice morning to be fishing.
Nice report GPS.
It really is a big issue now with the gear on everything. I went out on wed and its thick with gear on every mark up to 30miles.
I now tie up to one buoy and then take it round and round in circles for 10mins or so. I leave it with all the bouys heaped together.
Twice ive been out lately and its been upsetting after 200-250 pound fuel bill each time.
maybe i shall start towing the gear off the wrecks again.

daio web reacted to mike farrants in 21st July evening trip
You lot are a bunch of blankers so i thought id share my recent (unusual) blank afloat! (spoiler alert)
was a lovely evening with light Westerleys - perfect for drifting east across weymouth bay straight out of the harbour - no time wasted - as i only had a couple of hours.
i rushed home from work, grabbed the free rag from Tuesdays pier session and some frozen squid, and "rushed" under the bridge and out - greeted to someone pulling a lovely looking bream or bass off the pier i was full of hope!
aim was to drag a blinged up ragworm off a boom across the sandy bottom for a plaice or other likely candidate, while simultaneously towing a float suspending a squid strip for a gar fish or other likely candidate, PLUS with a set of feathers over the side aiming for a scad or other likely candidate..... (species hunt) - with 8 hooks over the side i couldn't fail right?
needless to say ronald provided the only fish that night - if you can even call it that!

daio web reacted to GPSguru in Gear on every wreck up to 30miles out and saving a silly whale!
It is not well known but a good few tope have been caught in deep water off the outer edge of the skerries.
The Salcombe crews are reporting that wrecks to the west of Dartmouth are clear of gear.
This year I had only one cod which went about 6lb.
I guess Bream fishing from the boat is a novelty for us here in Lyme bay, ok on light gear.
The local divers have been kind enough to give me the exact location of an estimated 10 - 15lb Ballan, which tends to bully the divers, so I will give that a go.
