Geoff reacted to Dicky in Burnham on Sea 1/4/24
First trip out for a few weeks and only the second of the year. Just a short one again over high with another club boat out. We both steamed about 10 miles to a bank on the edge of our old club boundaries to see if the hounds had turned up yet. We started on the very outer contour. Was a bit slow with a few dogs, straps and thornbacks and the other boat which was on top of the bank was faring better. As the tide eased we upped the anchor and shortened the rope out and repositioned closer to the bank. This improved sport with more of the same in greater numbers and also a small spotty for my dad and a nice hound 12lb + for my bro. Had heavy squall come through which dropped the temperature for the last couple of hours but overall a nice day out

Geoff reacted to Malc in Easter Sunday trip
Slow but we managed a few more fish to the species comp, my mate had a doggie and a codling and I managed a small haddock. Beautiful day out and we were watching dolphin getting frisky with each other on the way back. Another 4 weeks and fishing should liven up but good to see fresh spring run codling and decent whiting come aboard.
Little doggie for lovers of the K9s

Mine are to try my very best to make the most of the few-and-far-between days of light winds, get out to sea to catch anything decent.

Geoff reacted to Odyssey in Poole
Looks like mackeral or bass are around already…
Was out on a boat course on the weekend and loads of birds working off Old Harry rocks in the tide race…. Wished I had a fishing rod but the others on the boat probably wouldn’t have been impressed….
Some serious ££££ of boats down that way 😮😮😮😮
Nice to see a new part of the world but looking forward to gettitn out on my boat soon 🙂

Geoff reacted to mike farrants in Weymouth 17th March WAS Boat league comp #1
Forecast wasn't great - but it was the 1st Boat comp of the league with Weymouth Angling society.
all week it was discussed do we go ahead or not, as the forecast kept changing - we decided to give it a go as Portland can offer shelter from the wind if SW as forecast.
Its a points based competition by species - you get 30 points for the 1st of a species and then 15, 15 and 40 to a total of 100 points for 4 fish of the same species.
its then done on most fish, most points, most species and there's also a nominated species on the day (thornback ray) - largest wins.
boats leave the harbour at 8am and fishing commenced at 8.30, fishing to stop at 3pm and back tot he club for 4pm.
it was a very lumpy day - with 18-20mph winds form the south in the morning moving to SW - but we persevered - on our 5 mile mark we had a huge amount of Bream - couldn't get past them - even taking the big fish baits on the size 10 hooks- we also had dogs, pout, rays, whiting, eels, Scad, wrasse
we struggled to get 4 pout, eels, even dogs - at one point i was hoping for a doggie and getting frustrated by all the bream.
we moved closer inshore onto the mud in the hope of bigger thornies and more pout - and did manage a few more fish.
I ended on 240 and something - Tim ended on 491 and came 2nd in the points, but won the most species with 9.
My 18" Ray and Tims 19" ray were dwarfed by the winner!
so Tim won £40 something quid - and we all had a good day afloat.
im feeling to today though!
i didnt get any points for my Scallop - but it was tasty!
not many pics as too busy holding on and trying to stay upright!

Geoff reacted to moonlighter in Littlehampton 6/3/24
The day started well with a good drive to Littlehampton and an easy launch from the slipway as the tide was up enough to keep me on the concrete.
There had been patches of fog on the journey but nothing to worry about (why do some drivers insist on having their dazzling fog lights on whatever the weather?) but as I was launching a heavy fog descended, reducing vis' to about 50 metres. I decided to carry on and made a very slow and cautious trip down to the river mouth and out to sea.
Luckily, as is often the case this time of year the fog was sitting in a mile wide band along the coastline and once beyond that the vis' improved to the horizon. That made the descision as to where to go easier (though in hindsight maybe I should have gone West to the Selsey area as I heard of Blondes and Spurs being caught) and i pushed the throttle forward and cruised the 15 miles to the first wreck at a a very comfortable 22kts.
In total I tried 8 wrecks, 6 of which showed fish markers.
Unfortunately they appeared to be of Pout and Wrasse.
I did get some success at one of the more distant wrecks and landed 4 fish, one of which was a clonker. The rest were 3lb-5lb.
So, overall a great day out some nice fish but, worth the fuel possibly not and more worryingly there seem to be far fewer Pollack on what I'd call banker wrecks than there were 5 years ago.
