A late kick off into a slight sea to lure fish for codling. We tried for mackerel outside the piers but no one was catching, probably due to recent rain so we headed out to our chosen spot. Wind against tide gave us slight offshore drifts and we soon had codling on soft plastic lures of all shapes and sizes. We seemed to pass small shoals and then barren sea. A few small pollock to 2lb and the codling from fish finger to a couple of pounds with some bigger among them. 
There was a pan-pan which we listened to as we were a  few miles away from, a yacht with no engine to get into harbour but the lifeboat took her in.
We decided to visit a local wreck we had tried to anchor earlier in the year and lies E-W and first drift the skipper got a good fish on a 10gm rod that would have been around 8lb, quick snap shot and back to breed more, while I hooked a line as I reeled in to get the landing net! A couple of drifts on or around it, with a  couple of fish, and then we get well placed and drift the full length of her but the tide was very near slack and we drifted too slowly so nothing else so we headed home.
Lots of banter, some dolphin, a salmon leaping close enough to startle the gulls on the water and a fair amount of marine traffic including HMS Albion. No fishy photos so it didn't happen.

Got a busy weekend of fishing coming up.
out at 3 Saturday morning to fish the Kentish knock for bass, it’s about a 70 mile round trip and then a 12 hour tope trip on Sunday on the Galloper. 
 I’ll be knackered at the end of this but hopefully worth it.

Ok so not much of a report. But, Leo and I took the tender out to try the new anchor and took bread and @JDP's recommended light and short ugly stick. We were after mullet, but got into a 2.5lb bass instead. The rod and 2500 shimano reel were great fun.

Out today for tope on the Galloper from Brightlingsea, apart from the big tope I lost after 15 minutes of a hard battle I managed about a dozen doggies. But on the boat the notable fish were 1 tope at 43lbs, 4 spurdogs from 14lb to 18lb and six hounds the biggest being 20lbs.
Skipper was great, very helpful and knowledgable.

We were just about to anchor  up and I said to the skipper “hang on I think this is Jon’s mark” So he moved a couple  of hundred yards uptide and he thanked me for letting him know. 

Out today for tope on the Galloper from Brightlingsea, apart from the big tope I lost after 15 minutes of a hard battle I managed about a dozen doggies. But on the boat the notable fish were 1 tope at 43lbs, 4 spurdogs from 14lb to 18lb and six hounds the biggest being 20lbs.

About ten years ago, I was fishing on my mates boat and lee bollingbrook on the Sophie lee, pulled up next to us and  insisted we move. We didn’t 

First shark trip of the year, first as charter skipper…. 63 trips of finding the sharks and no blanks the pressure was on as it’s still best early season….
But I managed to get 2 for the crew on board. A nice 160lb PB for one crew and a 180lb for another. 
 
They let me have 3rd fish…. 35 mins later it was in. It was a submarine but felt like it…. At somewhere north of 300lb she was a VERY angry girl 😬🤣 
Misson accomplished is very tricky conditions on first trip of year with 2 PBs on board I was a happy (but exhausted) skipper getting home at 11pm last night after the 5am start…. odyssey sea adventures is ready for buisness 😁

Galloper with Scott Belbin, I’ll tell him (I’m sure he already knows) to stay clear of your marks. Might be a good idea if you sent me a list of your marks that way we can make sure we always avoid them ?
