It's Friday evening, that can only mean one thing.. it's care in the community time! 🤣
Anyho, having just caught on the first chuck, I thought I'd give a live report a go. A new PB.
Caught on a pennel pully with double squid mounted on 6/0's.  Hour after HW, weed pulling.

Last year I had Cod to 26lbs, Ling to almost 30lbs and Coalfish ~25lbs.
Yesterday we targeted Haddock as we didn’t get an PBs last year, didn’t get a double but biggest went 9lbs.
Cod - still find it crazy that you throw back 20lbers in disappointment 😂
Need some luck with the wind today….

We have had friends visit over the past few days, all women, and I was told that they were going to be taken fishing by me. One does a little fly fishing another has been out on her boyfriend's boat and the other never even held a fishing rod. My wife has her own gear and enjoys a bit of fishing and catches but it doesn't bother her if she doesn't get out from one year to the next.
Conditions were not good, the river was brown with lots of run off and the big pier was closed due to a big swell so we had to fish the Herd groyne which can be good at times but unlikely in these conditions.
I set up two rods with metals as they would be visible and audible to any fish and showed them how to cast, retrieve and get the gear across a sloping weed covered pier side. Well that was it, a few casts and I was virtually redundant apart from a couple of snagged lines that I broke out.
Did they have a good time?

No fish but what a great time!

Well dangled Steve. Got a lot of time for a conger or two, even if the smaller ones do trash the rigs.
I also have to agree with your observation about our hobby/sport/pastime. Nothing better to clear the mind than a session by the water in my view, be it salt or fresh.

Strange isn't it the difference a few miles can make?
Thanks, mate. We will keep at it but I fear we have a few months of outtings ahead of us that will emulate this one.
I know Silver eel are a highly rated Tope bait, I wonder if Conger are any good?

.. Were some stupid mutterings made upon washing out many expensive baits upon taking back up the dark side of shore dangling.. !! 🫣
Since my last report, fishing has been much the same. Trying lots of new areas for the standard return, some whilst doing the 'care of the community bit'.. during a recent session he disclosed to me that he had been suffering with poor mental health, grind of daily life leading to his retirement had all begun to add up but getting back out on the pebbles just once a week had worked wonders for him and has aided in his recovery. Surprising the benefits of this silly little hobby of ours that amounts to spouting bollocks whilst washing out baits.
Back to the fishing- last weekend of skanky bait up Eastoke on Halying was a manic bite a cast session with lots of micro bits. Bream, Bass, Dogs, Silver eel and Hounds.
Prior to wrapping the bait gear in last time, Conger (of the boot lace variety) along with the ever present Dogs had become more and more of a nuisance.. efforts made to use non-preferred baits proves fruitless, I know that's fishing but where's the joy in that!!?
Last night getting the old boy back out on the shingle, we found ourselves sticking more local than we'd hoped, ending up on Gilkicker.. providing some protection from the keen westerly and while fishing the flood from low.. it gives easy access to deep water, Gilkicker was the best of the options available.
Despite being over the moon with the Conger exodus, last night, that all changed! A session with a wall to wall practical demonstration that they are still very much with us, sadly! Most surprisingly for me, straps of a fair size, picking up baits fished close into the shore for Bass!! I've attached pictures of the biggest one caught of the session.. caught by my pal but I had the dubious honour of holding it up for his snaps.

Ok, so some time ago I was asked to put a project up at the OO do in Poole. Since then not much happened owing to family stuff going on. That front seems to be resolving now, so have managed to get down the workshop.....
So, the project, a 1967 triumph T100C motorcycle. I bought this a while back, imported from the USA, and that's about as far as we got. This isn't going to be a nut and bolt resto, but making it an everyday rideable bike....

So, the first job was to get it home. This proved more difficult than expected and cost the side stand bracket!! It's very good at leaning against things tho....🤣
Once home, gave it a bit of a check over, charged the battery and see what life it had..... Quickly discovered it had spark and compression which is good, but despite numerous attempts, she refused point blank to start. The carb was cleaned repeatedly and to no avail, there are some internal drillings that are prone to blocking up and at just over £200, a new carb was purchased, fitted and 3rd kick she fired in to life.
At this point, the oil circulation was checked and all seemed well. So now the process begins.....

The UK is losing its mine hunting capability in the not to distant future with the transfer of its current roster of HUNT / SANDOWN classes promised to bolster Ukrainian Navy, this has triggered an escalation of its replacement. I believe the vision is to have an autonomous MINE HUNTING capability / remotely controlled in much the same way drones are today.

The vessel pictured above is a concept being trialled by the RN, pretty sure it's a joint venture enterprise thus not an RN craft.

So went out yesterday at 3.3. Am to fish the Kentish knock for bass, had a run on my fist cast which I missed and then managed 1 dogfish in 4 hours before we called it a day.
Today though I was out on a tope trip on a charter boat and caught this 47lb tope. Absolutely buzzing.

I'm not going to go on about who caught the most, biggest and best, Andy has already eluded to this. So I'll just say that we had a great day out, Andy's always good company. I'm just glad he managed to close the gap in the end. Not completely but he tried.

@Saintly Fish was kind enough to offer me a trip out on Tarlach Too today. The plan was to hit low water slack at a shallow mark near Lymington for stingrays and gilthead bream, so we set off at early o'clock to grab the tail end of the ebb.

As we headed west we were greeted by a large flock of gulls working the water dead ahead of us. It would have been rude not to stop and see if we could bust the blank early doors.

So with some feathers hastily tied on we were both soon into mackerel, and even a bonus school bass for me. With 10 or so mackerel in the bucket we headed further west and soon dropped the anchor on our mark.
Didn't take long for the bites to start. Small black bream were nibbling our worm baits but the baits lasted long enough for Neil to hook into a decent stingray. During the fight it even managed to flap clear of the water - who knew stingrays could fly??
Not content to rest on his laurels, soon after he hauls up a lovely gilthead bream which went to 2lb on the scales. I'll leave it to him to post some pics of his catches.
As the tide flooded the weed became unmanageable, so we pushed out into the navigation channel where smoothounds were the target. Skipper did good and put us on the fish.

Again, I'll leave Neil to post up some pics of his hounds, but suffice to say he caught more of them, and they were bigger! 🤣
I also managed a nice little black bream from this mark, on a 1/0 hook intended for dogfish.

As the time ticked on we decided to move closer to home and stop off at another shallow mark to see if we could find any more giltheads. I managed to find a productive method by casting sideways and letting my ragworm and ball weight trundle around in the tide. A fair-sized schoolie bass and several bream fell to this technique.

Neil managed another couple of good smoothounds here to round off the day. Six species from three marks in six hours of fishing. Quality sunshine, quality giggles and quality skippering. Got to hand it to him, @Saintly Fish did good today - thanks mate, it was a brilliant session!
