We're in the west country pile this weekend and the wife and kids wanted to watch the coronation, so I spotted a chance to get out whilst I wouldn't be missed. A quick dash south and I was on the rocks under St Catherine's castle in Fowey, casting a Major Craft Jigpara 30g slow jig in Zebra Glow.

    First cast, fish on!

Quickly followed by several more. In fact it took me until cast #5 NOT to catch a mackerel!
It didn't take long to bag up... in fact I probably put more back than I took home.

I switched to a Fiiish Black Minnow to see if I could catch anything other than mackerel but sadly not.
Still, better than watching the coronation IMO. 🙊
I'll post up a Catch and Cook post shortly. The kids just ate some of them for tea and Mrs135 and I are planning on more of them for ours a bit later 👍

Yarp, it happened.. back on the stinky baits but it didn't all go according to plan!! Standard.
Found a stick worth a punt via a Facebook group, Century Tip Tornado Supermatch Graphex.. sold as nearly new having been used twice! Day after arranging courier to pick up in Scotland, I had it in hand.. couple of days later, I had it on the beach! Session finished with my buddy having landed a couple of dogs, it was a shit nothing tide and was more a session for a social catch up than anything else..
For me, I took the rod out of the bag for the first time on the beach.. Rookie mistake? The 'next to new' Century had an issue, the male section of the spigot joint had blown up and wouldn't seat sufficiently enough into the Butt section.
Rather foolishly, and despite only managing to seat it upto an inch or so, I decided to give it a go whilst taking it easy.. pfffft. Second cast out pings the tip section and impacts the beach hard enough to generate sparks as it blew up the bottom guide.
Good news today - sent to Century yesterday and was delivered at 1026 today, by 1400 they'd repaired the spigot, no fee, guide replacement and return will run to about 36£. Interesting note from them was that the spigot had blown up due to internal contamination.. sand and other detritus present within the butt section.
The seller claims the rod was no different when purchased and always had limited connection.. not knowing any different he fished with the rod thinking it was normal. Thankfully he's covered part of the cost of sending to Century and guide replacement at factory so it could've been worse. Can't wait to get it back and give it a dam good thrashing!

Having fixed up my aux motor to a reliable state again I took my first trip to the Skerries with my mate from work.
We got to the mooring at 5:15am, loaded the dinghy and were off on the boat by 6:10. Woj drove the boat whilst I set about getting all the kit ready for the day’s fishing.  We averaged about 18kts at 5000rpm and got to the start of the first drift position 65 minutes later. @GPSguru had very kindly helped out with some good information for me about positioning on the banks and drift patterns I could expect throughout the day which was really helpful. Thank you Ian 😊
First drift I had a plaice so target species acquired albeit a quite small one so it went back. We were using long strips of squid, my rig being something I’d bodged up 25 years ago with a cutlery spoon end, some plastic tubing and orange beads. Woj was using a shop bought rig with two hooks and loads of green and black beads with sparkly things. My rig outfished his by 2:1 🤷‍♂️ we also used some light rods for a bit of jigging with shrimp rigs and caught a handful of mackerel.
Anyway, on the second drift I decided to drop some big mackerel strips down on a couple of other rods so we had four baits in. The drift was nice and slow when suddenly the ratchet went on my Mack bait. I picked it up was instantly rewarded with a heavy pull back. There was a good bend in the rod and some serious thumping going on. After a few minutes a beautiful blonde ray appeared which went to a credible 15lb when weighed at a calmer point in the day. I was chuffed to bits with that.
We carried on as the breeze got stronger and on more than one occasion I used a small drogue to correct the angle of the boat to keep the lines in a good position.
At slack water I went in to investigate a small bank and reef off Beesands beach front only to find a large commercial working with a speed boat. The speedy boat was laying out a net and the commercial was ringing it around. Difficult to tell what they were actually doing but it looked iffy 😐 moved to another smaller reef off Torcross for another handful of mackerel then went back out for the flood stream back north. It was quite slow but we persevered. In total we had 7 or eight plaice of which I took four. Can’t say I’m proud but they were bigger than some in the shops and made a meal for four. Tasted nice they did.
A pod of dolphins appeared just as we decided to head back which swam all around us, a great sight to see. We got going, packing stuff away as we went but kept the jigging rods out. Stopped at Berry Head and were straight into mackerel. They dried up after 3 drifts so we went again and stopped at Hope’s Nose for more mackerel and 3 herring. I thought they were sardines at first but have since confirmed that they were indeed herring.
Got back to the mooring at 19:45 and home by 21:30. A very long and tiring day but very enjoyable, even got burnt… face is now peeling off 🤣
A total of 23 Mackerel, the plaice, herring and the blonde and I caught the bulk of it, very happy bunny 😊
One thing was a problem with my solar panel charge controller: no lights on it for half the day, then a green for the panel working and a red to say battery fault (which didn’t seem feasible as the indicator is still present with a strong visual presence). Going down today at low with some testing equipment.

Not been out at all in the last week, foot injury sustained to my foot and general daily life keeping me busy for the most part, with unfavourable weather forecast for the weekend I had written off any adventures and was looking forward to a lazy one..
In actuality, I spent the better part of this morning looking out the window contemplating inaccurate forecasts with real time conditions looking quite promising... an amount of procrastination ensued, quick flick on to outlaws to see if anything was doing.... then the realisation hit me, why look for fishy tales of others.. why not just get out!? So I did.
Bit later on the tide than I'd have liked by the time I'd arrived hibbling at my chosen mark that was already well into the ebb.. Stuck with soft plastics for the duration and managed to winkle out just one Bass in a short 2 hour session.. strange sort of take, having had a number of goes before nailing the lure. canny thing managed to wrap me up with an underwater obstruction, loosening up on it for a moment saw it free it self and moments later beached. Not massive but another session along with another fish.
Found a fresh cuttlefish corpse, believe its the time of year they breed and die shortly after.. would've made decent bait for later had I had the freezer space.

Another weekend another cracking day afloat!
Met at the marina for the 8am bridge lift - big tides so had to use the bridge - off out to try a new mark - looked on navionics and found somewhere fishy looking to try - about 5 miles out, 70ft water, over mixed ground. Hoping for bream, rays, congers, that sort of thing - plus being a new mark you just never know!
dropped the hook and rigged up a 2 hook flapper on the light rod with squid and a medium fish bait on the heavier rod.
Bang straight into a fish on the light rod before i could bait up the other rod - Scad - another for the species hunt.

Not long in we had a steady stream of black bream, Dogs, Eels, pout etc.
I had a fierce rattle and though bream - but was delighted to see a stunning Mr cuckoo wrasse - always a pleasure to see and only my 2nd. plus a tick off on the species hunt.

About half an hour later Mrs Cuckoo showed up - my first female Cuckoo

the wind dropped to nothing over slack and all we had were dogs and bootlace eels. - until Bang Tim had a decent fish on - big Bully

not long after i too had a Bull Huss - my first and an absolute chunk of a fish - another ticked off the species hunt!

as the tide picked up so did the fishing - the bream came back on the feed and Tim landed a boat record at over 3lb.

He also had the only ray of the day - a humble thornie (one for his species hunt)
the tide was racing through and it made holding bottom difficult - but we persevered. and im glad we did
we had big chunky squid that we had caught ourselves over the winter and so I decided to bung a big squid bait down for a hound and i was well rewarded with my PB smoothy - a spirited fight swimming up tide, head bangs, taking line, we thought tope to start with - an absolute tank of a double figure Smoothound! just over 10lb

absolutely cracking day afloat - and it was T shirt weather for about an hour!
I'm now on 13 species for the hunt in just over a month - i totalled 22 last year - so i'm doing well.
Tim also hooked 2 scallops and a doggie on one trace - so the scallops came home for a snack!
