its slow cooking, you would start the stew or what ever in a pot then put the lid on it some used a pastry gasket for the lid and left the pot on top of the range (cooker wood / coal ) the would yous clay pots or cast ion.
when coming home from a hard days work your meal is ready. there are a lot of books on the subject. it was a subject that was covered in catering collage.
nobody was standing when it got chopy, i could not stand so i sat down then had to move because i was getting a bit wet.it was a bit of a struggle to move. (i think they all had a good larf at me.)
it was a wonderful day out, i am still knackerd , i am glad i stayed another knight as it was a painful trip home but i am not complaining as it was the first time out of the house for more than an hour since late November. so a big thank you to s / f
