  1. minde you he could have stayd at home then he could have garntead that he would not have loast a game in the cup

  2. if you have a shalow draft like mine, ( yes neal i have ysed the boat befor i started woork on it ) skids are fine.

if you have a deep keal or a v keal then rollers are better.

if the slipway you use is a very flat shalow gradeant  then ?

i have used the slipways at swanick, calshot , pool , with my carpet side skids with no problem.

Managed to get out on Saturday after having had a few issues with a gearbox but now all sorted so was lovely to be out

sadly the forecast changed at the last minute I warned the crew we’d be in for a rough ride but tbey were keen to get out.

After a rather bouncy 3 hour steam we were on the shark grounds…. First run in 30 mins. Was a decent porbeagle but sadly managed to slip the hook. Rather frustrating!

we had another run which after a spirited battle we had a cute little porgie abour 100-110lb to the boat. It was wrapped up but a wave soon washed it through the door…

    Quick photo, tagged and released.

Anorher blue of about 80lb soon came along, again tagged and released.

Sadly the crew lost another porgie just underneath the boat….

I was keen to carry on but with 4 anglers with heads over the rail they decided to head in… another 3 hour steam home in a lumpy beam on sea and we were home 🙂

Lovely to be back out there hopefully a few more weatger windows abd can get out again 🙂

Easy to do with either bought smoked mackerel or if you want something special DIY.

I have a Camerons smoker but you can make your own from 2x roasting tins and a cake cooling rack.

I fillet, skin and remove the small bones that run along the middle towards the lateral line as I smoke a lot for friends and some are fussy about bones. Salt the fish for 15-45 minutes then rinse and pat dry. Smoke them for 15 minutes on a low heat and then switch off and leave for 30-45 minutes, then put the fish on a plate and cool. I use cherry wood as I process my own firewood and use 50/50 chips and sawdust that is moistened so it smolders better.

Weight the fish and use the same amount of soft full fat cheese and blend in a processor or mash with a fork until you get the consistency you want, the one below is smooth for a friend. Stir in lemon juice to taste, pepper and capers if you like. Sprinkle with paprika and enjoy!

Checked out a new launch site and went out into a haar but visibility was 300m and better at times. I hadn't used the yak for 9 months or so and it was nice to get out, I plotted in way points so I can get back safely as it is a rock fest if you aren't careful.

Eventually spotted arches after 3/4 hrs of drifting and searching and sent down a 20gm wedge with 3 sabikis on a 10-40gm rod and 4000 shimano. Bang and away we go!

Lots of fish but concentrated in a small area around 50m² or so, mackerel were in ones and twos and coalfish in threes and fours. The coalies were 1lb+ and hauled me about the place which was fun. Took 8 mackerel for the table and put the coalies back, they outnumbered the mackerel 3-1

i wish i cold get some rod bending

  10. Callout - Friday 31 May 2024
Solent Rescue were paged by Solent Coastguard on Friday afternoon to assist a 38 foot sailing vessel with a broken rudder, adrift.
Our volunteer crew launched our D-Class lifeboat, Solent Rescue 2, and located the casualty vessel with two occupants in the central Solent before towing them to the safety of the River Hamble.
The lifeboat was then recovered back to the boathouse at Lepe Beach to be washed down and re-fuelled ready for the next tasking.
Solent Rescue is an independent lifeboat, run entirely by volunteers.
