Josh got a reaction from Bass&Chips in Cornwall
So I was invited down to Cornwall for a close friends 90th birthday,
the plan was a surprise for him day out on one of the charters from looe boat to ourselves his daughter a friend granddaughter and I.
on the Tuesday,
so I’m not driving all that way without bringing my own boat …. Me and Ash drove down Saturday night, seperate, me towing arrived 2am’ish,Sunday
head down for all over about an 1 n 45mins then we wer up n cooking bacon on the stove!
out of the harbour and looking for fresh bait don’t know why because the plan Was to hit the lures on the reefs, kind of just goes hand in hand though fresh bait , well we didn’t find mackerel , but we wer hit with launce and a good 20 or so !
on goes the live bucket.
off out to the marks and on goes a live eel !
first drift just about to wind up fully to re run the drift and bang the spinning rod goes into C shape reel spinning off ! You can’t get beat a good pollack take (on the right gear) No matter how big sharks get !
we had a few more nice ones and no tiddlers which was nice.
after a while of slack we decided to try something different and pulled right tight inshore for bass.
new for me so I opted for a float to get far away from the boat we both did . And on goes a live eel and drifted over a shallow reef area,
20minutes in whilst I was slow jigging on the other side of boat for wrasse.
all hell breaks loose on the spinning rod with a float no where to be seen!
fish thrashing on the surface 30 yards away the most anxious battle fish head turning and diving away at the net running up the bow of the boat compete nightmare.
eventually graces the net ! A smidging under 6lb . I swear bass Look so big in the water and out . Such lumps.
After that I turned and noticed that my other rod I was jigging with must of caught bottom and snapped the tip… new rod too .. but I didn’t really care because I was made up with the bass !
a day off Monday as it was due for howling wind and rediclous rain ! Slept in the car again absolutely terrible for you.
then was out on the charter tues . It was a good day out but not bundles of fish .. was happy to be with the company when your 90 you may not get many more and inspiring to see him up on his feet fishing as hard as I can.
Next stop a blue shark bash Iv got a couple friends who need there first one so !
Josh.
oh .. a very unlucky lobster either raised his claw and ashes 4inch sidewinder hooked him or the lobster went for it we’ll never know specially now he’s brown bread.

Josh reacted to Tony smith in Thresher Fishing Trip
After a bad weather report all week for the weekend. It changed on Friday for Sunday to have light winds and a half decent day.
I rang James up to tell him the weather was ok and he jumped at the chance.
So Sunday was on. 😁
Got up at 3-30am got to the boat at 5am
Got the boat loaded with gear then over to the fuel dock.
Weather was a bit overcast but dry.
There was a bit of rain expected during the day.
We tried the forts for mackerel but nothing
We needed quite a few mackerel as we never had any chum.
Then the radio goes off saying there catching mackerel at Dean Tail.
Thanks to Rocket Ron for that.
We get there in about 10 minutes and sure enough mackerel galore
There was a pod of dolphins circling our boat balling up the mackerel.
We had thirty mackerel In about 20 minutes.
The dolphins give us such a display a very special day. ( it was father's day)
So we wasted no more time and headed out to the Thresher mark.
We drifted nearly 8 miles to St Catherine's Point with no runs.
On the ebb coming back I had a small 10lb Tope then I had a 25lb Tope
James followed with a 30lb Tope which had some line hanging out the side of it.
It looked like mackerel feathers but without the hooks they must of rusted away.
We cut and pulled out the line and got her back in the water as quickly as we could.
She swam away gracefully. Feels good when you can help out a fish.
Then I had a 30lb Tope
The Tope seem to like the float. We would let the weight hit the bottom then wind up 6 turns and put the float on.
We use Wallys shark floats works really well.
Then I had a 34lb Tope a sreaming run I though I had hooked into a Thresher.
Then James had a Dogfish on the float.😂
James then had 30lb Tope and a 10lb Tope We had about 7 Tope three over 30lb
The weather was really quite warm and sunny the sea was smooth. No rain at all.
I rung my wife and it was raining at home
A great session, we will get back out there soon looking for the Thresher Shark.
We headed back in after a great days fishing.

ouch 90L
100%,
id like to say I won’t let that happen again,, but I put absolutely everything I could into that and learnt so much, I’m so much more to prepared mentally physically.
I see that changing the angle of the line in the final stages seems to be popular ... (via driving the boat )which we done NONE of , she had us dead under .
I can see why it would work
so ready !🤓🤐

Josh reacted to GPSguru in Bank holiday trip
I only have 5 miles max to the slip !, but I have to stop at Tescos to fill the 90L tank on also every trip 👍
Josh, a good Tuna will be yours this year. As you well know, most are lost in the last part of the fight when the fish starts pinwheeling. The secret is to just keep a medium pressure on the fish and try to recover about a foot of line on each pinwheel, ideally at the same point in each pinwheel.
Also taking the boat to the fish in the early stages, ends the fight a lot quicker.

TBF, and this is not critique of the chuckle bros 🤣, Josh puts in a lot of road miles, sea miles, and time, into his fishing. The results of the extra effort that he is able to muster is clear 👍

How come Josh finds all the fish but the chuckle brothers don’t? 😉

Better than YOU!!
I can catch fish.
(I’m guessing I’m being classed as one of the to me to you).

I can catch fish too, but Josh catches better fish, bigger fish and more of them than the pair of us combined.
And yes, it appears that the jokers have stumbled upon a new nickname for us both...

Hi All
been a while, as there’s been nothing my end to report ha!
apart from 3 tow n backs from Kent to Cornwall and 4 days after the porgies in the spring, all with not the intended result. One good run that didn’t hook up but still. You gotta be in it to win it.
anyway Iv been trying to get out on more local ( but still a 2hr tow) ..the weather reads have been crap when Iv been free, and me and my mate Ash said even in the force 4 easterly read that we was concerned about for Monday we would do what we can and get out regardless.
well for starters the biggest win was the read was totally wrong and it was flat calm all day and we was in the water from
6am -8pm (sunburnt)
hunting around for bait fish a couple of stray mackerel came aboard to top up our frozen.
then we began drifting with worm on the banks for a bit till the tide was right for putting the anchor down for tope.
well no flatties on the drift and then 3hrs of dogs whilst trying for tope.
So a quick move and the spinners n slo-jigs come out and we soon found some decent Ballan wrasse after loosing one.
a pb for me 4lb.13oz I don’t know how it didn’t weigh up more it looked bloody enormous.
another move on to a bank for flatties and no flatties but a nice eating size bass for the table a bonus
then one last stop on the way in for fresh mackerel then drift with live bait and boom a solid tope run she weighed just over 30. Good bit of sport and a lovely day on the water worked hard for the fish we had.

Josh reacted to Tony smith in First sharking trip
Started with having half a day off work on the Friday to go down and get the boat on the blocks ready for cleaning the bottom.
and by god did she need it.
Met James at Hardway who gave me a hand with the cleaning it’s bloody hard work jet washing very low down or I’m getting to old for all this 😫
We got up Saturday at 4am it was over to the fuel dock and then we were Needles bound.
It was a bit overcast but looking like it was going to be a nice day.
Sea was smooth boat went like a dream, we was hitting 21 knots at one point.
Got it down to a steady 16 knots everything felt different, I went to adjust the trim tabs and nearly went under water on one side haha. 😂
Spotted the gulls working stopped a couple of times but No mackerel.
We headed out about six miles out from the Needled to start our drift to St Catherine’s Point.
Chum bags out weather was perfect.
We had four shark rods out and two on feathers be great to get some live baits out there.
We were half way to St Catherine’s point and James had two mackerel.
We had two rods on live mackerel and two on dead hope this will change things.
The chum bags was doing there thing a slick of oil leaving the boat.
Spoke to Saintly Fish on the VHF radio which was nice who was fishing just a few miles from us.
The tide turned about a mile from St Catherine’s Point then we were heading back to the Needles.
Its a good feeling when your shark fishing thinking at any one moment all hell could break loose.
We had the float at different depth and about 100 yards from the boat.
Looks like we are going to blank.😫
Just going past the Needles a yacht was heading straight at us I shouted can you give us a bit of room. He shouted back I can’t steer it.
I grabbed my rods started reeling in like mad but he went right over my two rods.
both floats broke off lost one lot of tackle
I shouted to him all this sea and you have to get this close. (wankers)
He didn’t give a shit I started the boat and picked up my floats
We packed up at that point and headed for Yarmouth for the night
I was so pissed off I thought about driving alongside the yacht and launching two bags of chum on his deck 🤪
Yarmouth is a real nice place to stop over
Harbour master there sorted a mooring
for us push the boat in for us really great.
It was a walk around the small town and fish & chips for dinner with a few beers 😀
Great nights sleep.
Up early ready for the next fishing adventure
It was Over to the fuel dock
Wind was blowing a bit
Got out from Yarmouth and realised that the sharking was off for today far too windy
Headed back home in a force 4-5 sea
we decided to tuck in at Totland Bay IOW as this would be the only sheltered place to fish.
Not a place we have fished before
We anchored up James had another mackerel he was the mackerel specialist this trip haha.
Then James was into a nice Bass about 3 1/2 pound I had a dogfish at the same time.
I then had a nice Bass about 4lb
Jame had a very nice spotted Ray about 3lb
Then James was into something big
All the time he was playing the fish he was saying I wish I had used wire on the trace instead of 20lb fluorocarbon
He had it on 5-10 mins then snap he was right he should of used wire. 🙁
I would say it was a big Blonde Ray
We were fishing over sand we would give it another go there great little spot 300 yards from the beach.
The weather got better and we had a bit of fun.
It was so busy there with boats and Jet ski’s
We headed home with a Bass dinner each
Boat all went well had a great time
Its a bit early for sharking but watch this space we will get there one day.
If you’re not in it you can’t win it
sorry it’s a bit long
Tony / James
