  1. The stainless hardware on that lure looks awful, why not just tie direct. Also looks like braid tied to it, rather than a mono leader. It also looks like the single hook has been put on the split ring the wrong way so that it sits upside-down.
  2. Youtube has many jigging style videos, check out slow jigging which is a more productive way to fish in my opinion. Also soft plastic lures that gives a good action at low speed will often catch fish by simply leaving in a rod holder to allow the rocking of the boat to create the action for the lure. I can't speak for the Warrior 15 but I use a slightly smaller boat in very poor sea conditions and have great confidence in the boat, however Ive owned boats almost 50yrs now. Now that you have decent charts to show sea floor in good detail just make sure you are careful in regards to anchoring over rough ground or wrecks as a stuck anchor can be dangerous depending how you try to get it unstuck from a small boat.
  3. Amazing seeing fish like that caught in such shallow water.
  4. Have you fished and launched much there before ? Always looked like an awesome place to fish from when ever I was down around there.
  5. Always seems to be just that little to windy to head offshore all the time lately. Even ended up soaked trying to fish from the beach due to large swell picking ups after dark. Tried heading out for a sheltered dive protected by a headland but the weather swung around making for an interesting white water swim back to shore taking over an hour picking my way through the rocks. Seriously thinking of going back to getting another rib again. Maybe a UK rib craft 585, if anyone has any experience with them.
  6. Yes, it's not the sort of gear to hand to people who aren't used to fish ripping line at 60kh +. Also many European anglers have the habit of high sticking rods, which is what most of us were brought up seeing on the front of angling magazines. High sticking is ok on most species over there as they don't push tackle to the limits so much but 15kg + drag settings and having to catch up on fish quickly with the boat isn't something normally done even on decent sized sharks. The bluefin here are sitting some 100 miles offshore unfortunately at my location, with very few coming closer to shore for us so far this season, however one longliner brought over 200 bluefin in yesterday locally, so they are in good numbers. 1200km south of me the tuna have been very close to shore with many small trailer boats getting fish of 100kg+ daily.
  7. Less than half the price of a Stella though, this style of fishing is expensive. Its also more addictive and fun than using the big heavy gear.
  8. Shimano Twin power 14000 is a popular choice here on tuna lure pitching. Ive been happy with my shimano grappler rods.

    Solid hound

Plan was to hit the beach tonight targeting hounds but my daughter had a quick session in the boat and managed to get a few already, one over the 20kg mark. So with the hound fix ticked off, this evenings beach session will be targeting bigger toothy species using wire. Personally I don't like using wire as I would rather break off sharks than stuff my back trying to deal with them, however the youngsters enjoy it!!!!!.....so hopefully a report with something bigger to follow.
  10. Have a break from it and let that hand heal up.
  11. I find the same with mine, rarely use them at all.
  12. Good to see one measured, though what's the go with the tape ? looks like it has a couple of cm before the numbering starts. Also is the first pic with genuine bogagrips, if so why not weigh the fish of those, they are calibrated scales (if they are boga's). Great catch.
  13. Was that a bit of high sticking or just a poor quality rod, bent butt rods make it hard for clients to high stick. You would think the reels drag setting would stop any failure of the rod unless it was either of what I mention. Lucky it was an acid wrap or the line could of most likely broke where the rod had on the rough edge, which may of ended up with the fish dragging the teaser bar bar and line. Are you not using circles on the sharks, or did this one get a circle hooked deep somehow. Incredible to see watts on offer back there in terms of fishing.
  14. Fantastic, getting more than us.The bluefin pushed too far offshore at our part of the coast, some never got a crack at them. Unfortunately they were in range of the foreign long liners though.
  15. Weekend looks like more bad weather, lucky I squeezed a couple of hours in yesterday, though even that ended with a nose dive into a large swell and both bilge pumps running!!!!!
  16. There's often around 50 anglers fishing that platform, all targeting game fish. Fish of around 100kg are often taken back up the cliff whole, something this size I doubt would have gone up in one piece. However it's also common for the lads to get friends with trailer boats to come around from the near by boat ramp and tow fish back to the boat ramp. Ive never fished the areas from land but do tow my boat up there. Most boat anglers are obviously aware of the people fishing from the rocks and allow enough space incase anyone has something big on and also incase they get called over by crazy waving anglers needing assistance. Personally I would put money on that fish being taken back by boat in order to get it weighed officially to make the record claim it's taken. There are videos of people catch and release fish from this spot. As mentioned there are often very many people fishing the spot, who work together when something is hooked like this. There are spots here where the angler will stay higher above the water while others will go lower on the platform to gaff or release fish just like bringing a fish boat side. The water is very deep from the steep ledges, ropes are used a fair amount. Fish are estimated of weight without needing to brought from the water just like on a boat and just like from a boat, some are kept to eat. It's not for me, far to hectic and time consuming. Most marlin we hook in the boat are released under 15mins thanks to boat work. The guys on the rocks have already committed to catch and kill most of the time before they leave home.
  17. These are common and not commercially targeted, They are fast growing and reproduce quickly, unlike many of the species you have around the UK. Most people don't keep them as they are so much work to get rid of. We normally keep the odd one and share it among friends, or if someone else gets one we will have a a steak or two from it. They don't go to waste for sure.
  18. Just saw this posted on social media from a well known rock platform just north of where I live. Wouldn't like to drag this back up the cliff to the car!!!!!
  19. That's very good performance, about what I got from a Suzuki DF140 on a far smaller boat. I found my Suzuki engines to very quite, surprised you are finding it noisy. I sea trialled a Df 100 a few months ago and was impressed how smooth and quiet it was even at 6000rpm, however that was on a 15ft centre console, so didn't have to work very hard to push that boat along. Sorry, don't know any good chandlers, there were a few on the Isle of Wight where I used to live but moved to the other side of the world now. I do have a full hydraulic steering set as a spare which came as part of a package deal with an engine I bought a few months ago but the postage would be way to much to send to the UK.
  20. How old is the df 100 ? make sure you regularly pay attention to the powerhead anodes as they normally need replacement around 12 months whether you have put many hours or not on the motor. The plugs also have a short life compared to other outbounds, expect to get around 100hrs from them. Fitting hydraulic yourself isn't to hard, Ive done it and Im far from mechanical. Post some performance figures when you get out on it and take note of the max rpm the engine reaches and prop size and pitch as its a big looking boat for a small engine, so correct prop size will be very important.
  21. I was sent it to test from a manufacturer in Norway and it seems to work very well. There are three flavours, where this one caught all the fish and other fish species I didn't keep. The snapper have been very quiet to catch lately, to the point I caught more using this yesterday than my daughter has in her last three charters. Normally I don't use any of these products as I like the fact lure fishing is so clean not having to handle bait but this turned what I believe would of been a no action day into a quality catch. In regards to the species, some call them red snapper, some pink snapper but really they aren't snapper at all but more part of the bream family.
  22. Wow some big fat cod there, such an awesome place to fish.
  23. What depth are you fishing 30 miles out as your jig heads look quite small. Its not just the air in the swim bladder, Ive seen studies where small air bubbles cause brain haemorrhaging and a slow death in some released fish, do you know if these have been studied in regards to survival rates. Looks like an awesome trip. Love the fact he has a big aircon unit for the cab.
  24. Gave the boat some exercise and brought home a few meals. All soft plastic work in 65m of water.
