  1. There are lots of small airways, not just the nasal passage, clearing these will greatly help with equalising. A steam bath (bowl with towel over your head) will help clear those. Equalise lots and before you start feeling any pain or pinch, even if you are doing every half metre until you get to know how pressure effects you. Decend very slow without taking big breaths. The big breath is simply like having a balloon in your lungs which will obviously make you more buoyant and less relaxed. There are numerous dive weight formulas online which go off your weight and the thickness of you wetsuit. At the surface to 2-3m Im quite buoyant but weighted to sink after those depths. If I was only targeting species in the shallows I could simply add a little more weight. The main thing is to do everything slow and relaxed and don't try pushing anything that feels uncomfortable. Only time in the water will increase you time under it. Ive just started working with a group of youngsters free diving who imagined they would all be awesome gun free divers, which they've suddenly realised they aren't yet. Its great diving with them as they are taking so much onboard and getting better with each dive now that they aren't pushing themselves. Im very out of shape from how I used to be and compared to my daughter, which is simply because I used to spend most of my time in the boat as I couldn't keep up with her. This guy posts some very good videos on free diving with plenty of things that will help you out, he also dives over 100m on breath hold. There are also free dive courses in the UK which should help you.
  2. Just gotten out of the water and plan on doing the same for the next three days unless I decide to chase tuna on one of the days over the weekend. How are you going in regards to free-diving Andy ?
  3. I found quite the opposite but would still recommend J braid over power pro for budget line as that fluffs even worse. Typical use for me would be 2-3hrs of constant casting 40-70g metals, at shore locations for Aus salmon which are almost guaranteed, these put a fair amount of pressure on the line. From the boat using 25g micro jigs or even lighter soft plastics, any fluffing greatly reduces the fall which is often at depths from 50m -120m. Dropping a heavy lead or lure wouldn't be an issue. Buy one buy right, maybe if you tried something like 131, Shimano ocea or grappler braid you might get 15-20 seasons out of it and be able to pass it down to your grandkids 😂
  4. I thought J braid was about as budget as you could go without running the risk of hit and miss Ebay braids. You might be running into false economy with very low cost lines which an often fail or fluff up after a few uses. Personally I would rather fill my most commonly used reel first with something half decent and put mono on the others until I could do the others.
  5. That looks good and healthy, yum.

    Hot days

Now that attention has been drawn to the pixelation, there's been no mention of just how long that pixelation hangs down. Halfway to the left knee 😱
  7. Yes that was the case back when I fished them, also the added time to get there with the slow charter boat meant I mostly fished them with my own boat. Some of them fished extremely well and the ones closer to shore meant you could fish them in bigger tides.
  8. That was common ground when I worked on charters, far less people fished more to the west. Those wrecks in that area you've outlined were located by landmarks when I first started out fishing that area. They were once loaded with pollack up to 16lb and getting a bait to the bottom through all the fish was very hard. I suppose the wrecks are stuffed these days ? how about those to the east off Brook and Chale ?
  9. They were always more fickle around the needles area than heading further to the Nab. Do you ever try for them SW of the Needles around N50'38.814 W1'37.837 around the wreck. Currents were strong but the area used to be ok for tope, turbot. Where the arrow is, lower left on the screen. Also the wrecks closer to the lighthouse. Do you use a downriver with burley ?
  10. Had decided not to head out in the boat because of the forecast, so made plans today take some kid’s caving, however the weather changed claiming heavy rain. Given there are four deep water river crossings we pulled the pin on that too. Ended up taking the youngsters out for a shore snorkel to show them how to catch lobsters by hand.
  11. Looks like a glorious day out there. Funny seeing those places I fished so many years ago with my own boat and working on charters.
  12. Maintenance crew must be fishing, look forward to the catch report!!!!!!
  13. I find it very hard to sit around and watch any sport, even when bikinis are worn!!!!
  14. Feeling sad that Jon doesn't talk to me anymore, Im trying everything!!!!
  15. Standards are truly slipping. Just above my initials on the right then move left 1/3 and you will see a gap start to appear resulting in a thin strip continuing to the left. Maybe you need a bigger screen, looks terrible projected on a 20m x 15m screen!!!!
  16. The horizon is slightly out with the header picture, it rises a couple of mm on the right side of the picture. Im amazed quality control didn't pick this up, its simply not up to British standards. Just saying.
  17. Only watched bits, funny enough its been mostly the female side of the sports as my wife and daughter prefer that side of sport. Not sure how the medals are going but I believe the Aus side have been doing pretty good especially when you look at the population here in comparison with other countries. Anyone been following it or isn't it popular in the UK.
  18. Only a few tight squeezes, mostly very large and specular chambers. Lots of micro bats.
  19. Swell looking to be over 4m but wave height is small, I’m thinking it will be a no go so might head to the mountains and take some kids caving for the first time.
  20. At last a post with people looking like there is in fact some warm weather in the UK, envy.
  21. Not a joke, Im not laughing🙁 . Early start just after sunrise this morning to find my 4x4 covered in ice, even after hitching up the boat and driving to the ramp I still had ice on parts of the vehicle. Water temp was down to 12.5'c on the shore reefs which normally get to around 16-17'c over winter. When the temp reaches 16'c the fishing becomes pretty tough, today was one of those. Only managed 2 snapper and a few wrasse species to take home for dinner. Nothing seemed to deter the toothy pike though, so at least we we able to have a bit of fun catch and releasing those most of the day. Roll on the warm weather.
  22. That looks great, I have mine fitted above the transducer to the hull but I prefer the look of this. I also have two of the transducers on sliding brackets so I can pull them up high if I have to race another boat!!!!!!
  23. Just heading out to try another Shimano grappler, the opposite end of the range to the one I caught the tuna on last weekend. This is a very light bait cast 2 piece, hope to try it on snapper and hounds.
