  1. Used to walk down to Scotties from school in my lunch break (Carisbrooke High). I did boat building and fibreglassing at Tafe with a few Mednia high lads. I fished the West wight Angling club for many years, my mum was on the committee for the club many moons ago!!!! All my family are still there too, frigin heaps of them!!!!
  2. How Manu years ago ? I was there about 25yrs and mostly fished the west side from shore and kept a boat at Yarmouth. I also fished out of Bembridge and still fish with some of my old shark fishing buddies from there.
  3. For me that 10-15 would be perfect, where 15-25 becomes difficult to works with. I don't like calm windless conditions as these mostly end in a quite beach session for me. Of course when I lived on the IOW it didn't really matter as you could simply do a short drive to the side of the island which was protected. Offshore winds are a godsend for me when trying to lob big baits out.
  4. I might go out to look at the whales and penguins if the wind stops.
  5. Don't you have trees and bushland around your home you can burn like we do!!!....Really though are you needing heating already, Im still hoping to see a few summer catch reports on here.
  6. Yes that's always been the case with spin but most right handed anglers will hold the rod in their left and reel with the right using multi's. Take most game anglers, they use their less dominant weaker arm on the rod and the strongest to turn the reel handle. To be honest you can also do a fair amount of lifting from a game reel handle on the upstroke and you don't need to create any rod action simply hanging bait over the side but when skilled rod action is needed then opposites attract!!!
  7. I do wonder though for true lefties wouldn't they be able to create better action with the rod in their left hand and so be better off with a right handed reel. The rods action in moving a lure is what attracts the fish, the hand that simply turns a handle doesn't do much at all.
  8. I recently started using left handed multi's (and spin reels) for micro jigging. Ive used multi's right handed all my life but recently found how much fun micro and slow pitch is with my easiest controlling hand using the rod for the twitch action and the lefty hand for simply winding at the handle. Right handers should give it a try.

Didn't think I managed to get a pic of the salmon in the surf on the phone but it turns out I did, even if it is poor quality. This school was approx 150 long, one of three schools we spotted in the 10 min walk along the beach. These salmon have muscle tissue more like tuna, hence why they aren't so popular to eat, they are pretty good smoked. A salmon is extremely hard fighting and don't seem to ware out, great fun in light tackle. Using the phone seemed problematic. Firstly I had changed the spelling in the tittle but when I posted it reverted back to the t missing. Also the pics that posted sideways weren't sideways on my phone when posted. I think perhaps having 2-3 bars didn't help with posting but it was fun to try and keep uk with the action at the time. trying to use a torch as the camera light and press the photo button was tricky!!!

No, home now eating some sort of prawn thing she's made. Andy its pretty much always like this if you put the effort in and can read the water ok, my problem is I only bother if I have someone who wants to target this sort of stuff. We didn't get any whalers or hounds which is normally the most common species we get. There have been some big hounds up around 30kg caught by the commercial set line guys.
