  1. Trouble when people overlook basic maintenance such as flushing an engine after use. Not so much an issue when they are regularly used but when they are left for weeks between runs those thermostats and cooling systems will block up. I recently had one with a totally blocked powerhead and thermostat which I managed to soak the system through the powerhead anodes using salt-away. After an hour the solid salt had softened enough to dig out of the anode holes on the head so l could pour more of the solution into the head. The thermostat salt dissolved like a slushy in the sun and I soon had the powerhead flowing again. I left one of the powerhead anodes out and ran the engine pumping more salt-away through the muffs allowing the water to flow out of the anode hole rather than try to pump the dissolving salt through the pee hole. I believe vinegar works well dissolving salt according to Clinker but not sure what ratio he mentioned ( was a few years ago now). It's handy to always carry a short length of heavy mono to poke up the pee hole if any small bits of debris block it. Some engines pump at quite high pressure and the pee hose can blow off from inside the cowl, which can end up filling the engine with saltwater from inside the cowling if not careful.
  2. My Suzuki looks like its been used as target practice at the local riffle range!!!!!...just been polishing it ready for viewing now its on sale. Will have to look further into the ceramics, though much of my boats issues comes from sharks and novices I take out that see the black engine as a good place to smack their terminal tackle!!! Thats good that you get to head out so often, do you get your fuel while on the water or do you take it out to the boat in a tender.
  3. Are you getting out much Clinker. Those Merc's look awesome, how are you keeping the black cowling from showing salt stains ?

    Toy testing

You would be surprised how well they go in rough conditions, you just have to push the throttle down when you would normally be pulling back. Quite literally drive them like you are trying to break them and they ride well. This is an article a magazine did on this very boat a few years back http://www.fishingmonthly.com.au/Articles/Display/1172-Formula-for-success
  5. Just picked up another little boat!!! The weather flattened off to glassy conditions after a light offshore breeze earlier in the day. Must admit I was a little disappointed with the overall performance from the honda 90. The motor ran out to about 6200rpm which is in the ball park but a bit more speed would of been better. Finding it difficult to make up my mind if to keep this one or the bigger one.
  6. It will take a little practice to get right, once you have a few spins going slide the loops up tight then continue the full knot.
  7. My daughter found plenty of yellowfin today, unfortunately a couple got bitten in half by mako's.
  8. Been using a jigging master pr knot bobbin for around 8 years +, plenty of copies out there, even from Shimano.
  9. The little 15ft boat Im getting has one for starting, another house (backup start) and a large battery up front for the Minn Kota. I dare say a saving of around 60kg for a small boat which I plan on carrying extra fuel for trips of around 500-600km. Its early days at the moment and I will need to see what sort of performance Im able to get from the Honda 90, if it doesn't work out I will sell it and keep my other boat. I can always drop the prop pitch to carry more fuel and water on the bigger boat but Im not to impressed with the 140 Suzuki for remote locations.
  10. Hopefully picking up a little boat in the next couple of days to use as a long range adventure vessel!!!! The change over from my current boat will allow me to make a few changes, with one being swapping the three batteries over to lithium. Making the boat lighter to carry extra fuel and water will obviously be an advantage as will the life expectancy on lithium batteries. I came across this video that pretty much has exactly what Im looking for apart from a bit of solar.
  11. The guy who builds them also builds these.
  12. These are all the same 15ft hull, just under different names. Mine goes under the Formula brand having been made by that company. The one with the 225 on the back looks a bit bum heavy. As you can see, mine with a 90hp is at the low hp end.
  13. I believe he had a dummy spit when someone else hooked both sharks!!!
  14. I remember this one well, drawn out fight where you can clearly hear him calling up his mates to get out among them too. He pestered some good friends of mine to take him out after threshers, first and last trip he will ever do with them.
  15. We like to have enough power to outrun bad weather while fishing far offshore, these particular 15ft centre consoles often have 115 4 strokes and the 17ft version up to 200hp. The 19ft is generally powered with 250-300hp, Im currently skippering a 19 with a New Honda 250 but the owner is disappointed with it and now wanting to go back to a 300 Yam.
  16. Got my eye on another little trailer boat, down the coast. Finding covid border restrictions a pain to work around but at least this boat is only 800km away. This one is just a little 15ft boat, a model Ive owned before only this one is powered by a little Honda 90 vtec. Anyone had any experience with these 90's ?
  17. The ling were from one of the wrecks in that area over the brief slack tide. I used big baits more when I fished longer range trips around the Channel Islands in hope of that elusive mako.
  18. I drifted with a 12lb ling on as bait one day and a big squid killed it by taking a chunk out of the back of its head. Alway's being a bit optimistic using at least one really big bait!!!!...also used pretty big pollack as bait. Over here a shark smaller than your bait will try to eat it.
  19. Also just being pedantic!!! Gee's, I use both shock and rubbing leaders on both shore and boat, hope I don't get disqualified!!! The rubbing leader is the trace that gets rubbed around fish and rough bottoms and my shock leader is the line between the terminal tackle and braid to reduce the shock and stop hooks tearing from fish in aggressive head shakes etc.
  20. I used to bottom fish while drifting for sharks in that area, picked up pollack and ling regularly. My daughters friend (ex boyfriend ) has landed some pretty large mako's from that little boat, he loves targeting sharks and works them over pretty quick. 107ft sounds so shallow these days!!! One of the boats boats I used to fish from has now tagged over 200 threshers form the Isle of Wight.
  21. My old hunting grounds St Catherins, did you bottom fish while drifting. I had a thresher take my first bait as I was hand lining the trace over the side to tie a ballon there once. My second bait over the side resulted in another thresher almost as quick as the first one. Over here one of my daughters young friends had an exiting battle on an estimated 250kg thresher on the weekend from a 3.85m open boat.
  22. You can do both with either. I pull lures with jigging rods and also use them for live baiting and chasing big game. The fact many jigging rods are very parabolic makes easy work on heavy weight fish rather than hard work on the angler. Shimano recently revamped their grappler range which are proving quite popular, some of the range haven't even reached their own website but are available in store. In saying that I haven't used one apart from bent a few in store but they do a three piece one for travelling.
  23. I also use the bravo pump, simply hook it up to the car battery and away you go, very quick and shuts off at the pressure you set it at. Mine is over two years old now.

    More trout

She uses very light line of 4lb which is easier to use on the very narrow creaks. You only need a cast (flick ) of 4-5m.
