    New reel

I do, or should I say did have a couple of Penns. The battle mk 3 is still going strong but the more expensive latest version slammer was not up to the Shimano class in my opinion. The line roller bearing soon became rough after just a couple of trips, which seems to be a common issue here with them. I replaced that one with a same sized small Saragossa which is better than the first Stella reels in my opinion. Another issue with the Penn reels is that many have very heavy chunky builds, to the point the reel leg can split the reel seats on rods, which has happened to me on three rods. Its something our dealers have complained to Penn about, so hopefully they will address the issue but for the meantime I don't recommend anyone over tightening the reels down on their rods. Its different here as we need them pretty tight when targeting bigger sharks etc from the beach or tuna in the boat, in saying that I wouldn't use a Penn for flicking lures at tuna as the reels are to heavy for me.

    Whales !!

We used to encounter right whales while fishing south of the IOW, however they didn't approach us as close as these did to you. Here though we see plenty of whales daily, even my last trip out for a dive a pair came over to check my boat out. I like to keep my engine running when they are close so they can be more aware exactly where I am. Last year some friends had a whale fully breach, landing on their boat, which left the young lad (my sons school buddy) in a coma and various other injuries. The whale in the bottom image looks to be feeding, where there any mackerel or large bait-balls of whitebait or pilchards etc about ? These pics are from the weekend, though I didn't bother to much trying to get photos on this occasion.
  4. Picked up a little shimano vanford to add to the upcoming trip away to the north of the country. Loaded with 300m pe1.2 grappler braid this will be my light lure tuna, trevally, queenfish and barramundi reel. I will have four on my boat so needed some extra gear ahead of the trip. I will also use this for land based light lure and plastics with the bone voyage travel rod. This is a comparison to basically the same older versions which will be taken on the trip also. I will of course be taking heavier gear for bigger fish but it’s the light line gear I find the most fun.
  5. Just arrived, second sounder after cracking the first ones screen. Unfortunately screens aren’t a warranty item, so be careful anyone who has glass screens. I believe the first chip on the glass came from the cover clips, which was further aggravated by hitting waves at speed, all something these units should be able to handle in my opinion.

    Sending it

Its not an extended pod, just how they are built. Yes power to weight ratio is about right for it now, it wasn't so good when it had the 115 which I took off to put on my 15ft centre console. The 115 is perfect on my boat which is a very heavy build and actually managed to outrun this blue boat on the day of these photos in that small chop, mine has a slightly deeper v. The blue boat has a flooding underfloor section which is claimed to add to stability but even with a deeper v my little boat is more stable at rest. Boats are always such a compromise, we need power to reach some of the offshore species and dodge bad weather but also the economy to be able to afford to do it. I can sit at 2.5km+ per litre where the blue boat is at 1km per litre.
  7. Why not put a short wire leader instead of mono traces, sounds like they are getting the hooks down to deep if they keep snipping you off. We tend to rarely get bitten off on tope (bycatch) but we also fish with heavy drags and don't let the fish take line even with mono traces. Great report, about time there was little action on here.
  8. Not my boat but one I fish from. One of the guys I fish with in his bigger boat quite regularly bought this for his kids. This is the 13yr old running in the engine. We did have a 10km race up the coast in chop at full noise and I was surprised that my 15ft centre console managed to out perform them. I bought a second hand engine off his kids last boat, should I be worried!!!!!!…..makes sense why there was so much salt under the cowling.

    Barbie….

Well they are bycatch when targeting better things, just like back home.

We get no end of pesky dogfish here too, here’s my little girl with one.

    Barbie….

Not only is the movie aimed towards adults, its also aimed at men in modern life, all of course in a very funny way. Its also your duty as a dad to do what your 13yr old daughter asks of you, its won't be long before she won't ask you anything!!!! Yes the Barbie stickers will hopefully be placed (if they arrive in time) at strategic places on the boat for a big trip coming up very soon. Its one of those trips where I will be towing the boat some 9000km and living offshore on a remote island off the Northern Territory. The trip will hopefully contain swimming with sharks, fishing among saltwater crocodiles and plenty of game fish species. Im hoping to get film and photographs from as much of the trip as possible with the Barbie stickers showing in the hope it will attract certain members form this site down under!!!!! I will try my best on the nails but I find Im not so good at doing my right hand with my left hand, might need some tips from the left handers on here.
  12. Nice tope, seems like plenty of bass around the country at the moment. When you say Yarmouth, do you mean Yarmouth IOW ? If so where did you go for the tope, would of thought you would of traveled a few miles to get tope.

    Barbie….

Late 50's. Just ordered some barbie stickers for my boat. I personally think the humour and messages in the movie are aimed more towards adults, its actually very funny.

    Barbie….

Exactly but he said it was our secret🤐 Im not sure if I can ever trust him again now even if he did do a great job painting my nails. If he's sinking ships with his loose lips, Im blabbing that he ate all the pink marshmallows after telling me its more about the colour than the flavour. I can't stay angry at him though, the way he pushes them over his fingers and so delicately pops them in his mouth is truly wonderful.

    Barbie….

No, just the Mrs, funny enough there were no kids in there at all but I did go in school hours to avoid them.

    Barbie….

Barbie has broken $1bn in two weeks breaking several records. I don’t wait to see what other people think, I use my own opinion. It was a fun movie full of good humour, surprisingly very enjoyable.

    Barbie….

Im heading to see this tomorrow, just wish I was going with MrC rather then the Mrs.
  19. Heading out tomorrow to have a look at the yellowfin, not sure if I will fish or just leave it to the others onboard. My goal if to photograph them free jumping.
  20. There are some helpful YouTube videos. I prefer doing pr knots and nearly always use leaders on all types of fishing from light spin to heavy game. In saying that I fish far lighter line class than most would be using on equal sized fish in the UK. Decent joins won't fail, it will be a knot at a swivel, hook or lure where the weak link will be.

    Women

Notice how women will have smiles on their faces even if they don't catch fish, look at males even with great catches and they look depressed. Its the same with scuba divers, they always have crazy smiles for photos. Looks like a fun session, which is what it should be about.
  22. His behaviour is somewhat like William Powerfish. Possibly copycat syndrome.
  23. Im still trying to work out what species of animal is under his shirt, it has a giant smile. Possibly a giant toad.

    Not a boat

Wow thats a serious tinkering shed, surprised you ever get time to think about wetting a line.

    Not a boat

Nice project, I keep find myself looking at older classic bikes as Im getting older but I think the mrs wouldn't be to happy if I turned up with another bike!!!!!
