    Those numbers seem ok Jon.
For what it's worth I get similar with my engine running, except my Lowrance under-reads by around 1v, which I think is due to losses through the helm switch that it runs through.

Thanks Jon. That post on side-scan imaging was a first attempt at an Article. Comments should be enabled but I'll double-check.
It's also intended to be a simple intro to how to get the best out of side-scan kit, not the last word in configuring high-end gear. Less is more, right.

Just a follow on from Andy's post on side imagining (don't seem able to post comments on his post). There is a heap of things you are missing out on in regards to that topic, some might greatly influence the way people purchase transducers for range and fish finding capabilities. Andy only mentions the 455-800 but there are also 1200 and 260 frequencies that are far more capable in both fish finding and structure finding, with the 260 scanning right out to 200m each side with good results on structure finding.
After buying a Garmin 8410 simply because of the far higher res screen in comparison to my last 12 hds carbon Lowrance, which I was initially quite disappointed with. I watched all the Garmin free online seminars but still felt I was not getting the most out of this unit. I came across an online course and decided to to take a gamble and pay the coin to see if I couldn't fast track the knowledge base to getting more from my sounder and especially the sidescan side of things.
The course had a fathers day special and my wife bought me the online training. I found it very worthwhile and can reference back over any parts at any time. The training is broken into modules and any response to questions has been very prompt. I looked at it in a couple of ways, firstly getting value out of the expensive electronics on my boat. Second fisheless trips still cost money, so being able to use the electronics to their best to find fish should soon offset the cost of the course.
Anyway here's the link, part one might actually be free https://www.fishsmarter.com.au/courses/sounder-skills-1/
I found it worthwhile and its saved lots of wasted hours experimenting with settings, hours that I can now spend searching down my target species. I fast tracked and problem solved initial and now have an increased confidence on the water. From memory there are around 40 modules.

I would be reluctant to use any expensive electronics while there is an over charging issue...... Especially as the extent of which is not really known at the moment.

Ribcraft sea trial all their new boats that are 5.85m and above, before handover to the customer ......................I could have joined them but I was busy that day.
During the trials they found that it was over propped with the standard 3 blade SS prop, so Mercury sent them a couple of 4 blade Revolution 4 props to try as that particular prop was designed for that style of boat ............ I am pretty careful with it as the REV4 props are £650 each .............
The only other issue was large rooster trails from the transducers  ............ Garmin provided diffusers and angle adjustments to overcome the problem .............

Jon, had a search around the net, found something that is a common occurance....

That connector seems to be either a common issue or a common result. Have a look for that connector, spliyt it and make sure all nice and clean and tight fit....... This is also a common occurance on Suzuki bikes (and Triumph for that matter). Many have switched to mosfet reg/recs and upgraded charge circuit wiring. If you could source a wiring diagram, should be able to break it down a bit further for you and give you some tests to perform.....

Ive been in a few in the past but not driving them, there are even a few tour operators that drive boats like this!!!..it's funny but the fella who's boat I'd been in wasn't racing to the pub, he virtually had the pub in the boat with us.
My daughters ex powered his little tinny with a 40hp etec which would run at a crazy 110kmh.
Another crazy boat Ive been in was another of my daughters sponsors, the boat was the Cootacraft villain. My first trip in this 70kt offshore spearfishing boat was crazy but not the fastest of the boats they build. Give me 22-24kts anyday over this crazy stuff!!!

I'm guessing that the guy knew how bad this was, and the mate he had supposedly sold it to knew before demanding his money back. Now because I was buying it to break, I never really looked at it, so this, is decidely my fault in that respect. But I now have a good use for it so alls well etc.
I am however, genuinely glad that I never moved it on, because some complete novice may have bought it and paid the ultimate price with their and their family/friends lives.
Jon, I honestly don't think what I am seeing here is from the original build company. The hull looks good quality work compared to the floor etc. Maybe bought as a kit? Who knows?
Anyway, I would rather torch it than let it go as is.
Jon, no, the steel is over the back of the transom as well, and under the splash well it has steel spreader plates on the lower bolts. I haven't stuck the drill bit in yet, but am under no illusion that I really need to, it will be rotten, of that I'm sure. Having nothing to tie the transom in is also disconcerting, and with a heavier engine, this may have turned out like the one you mentioned. Needless to say, if this ever sees service again, these things will be corrected........

Yes that's something I noticed with Lowrance too, the fact that two 500lt bait pumps have cooked in two trips doesn't indicate it's simply a misreading on the head units.  It's not really a worry, I could run the power to the battery through a ctec dc to dc charger which I removed from another vehicle, this can also regulate any solar I use on longer range trips for powering the 12 volt freezer. The other option is to get the mobile auto electrician to check it out, who I believe is having the same issue with his Suzuki 175.

Girls make such good fishers, most people are willing to help girls out, so they can learn from so many people. Attitudes and patients towards girls is also often greater than what people will give to boys. Good to see another female champion.

I bought an Accurate Boss Extreme reel from the US. I used Tackle Direct and they have an option on their site to pay the import duties up front so that it doesn't get stopped at customs. The price difference isn't that favourable so I'd only do it again for stuff we can't get hold of over here.

We get similar (albeit on a vastly smaller scale) when coming through the heads at Milford.

The swell funnels up between the islands and you get some move lumps even though the underlying swell offshore is small.

It’s why it’s nice knowing I got lots of power on board... I just wish boat builders in UK looked at Aussie boats, saw the technology and got with the times! We are 30 years behind you guys!

That moulding system sounds similar to what we do over here, but it is known as injection moulding. We have an inner and an outer mould, gelcoat the outer, put in the mat and any internal reinforcement required then  then more mat and clamp in the inner mould. The resin is then mixed with the hardener in the injection nozzle and injected into the cavity between the moulds which also has a vacuum applied to assist and accelerate the fill. We use this system in my friends workshop everyday, but obviously that is geared to mass production. Most of our work is traditional one off stuff and repairs so is hand layup of moulds and mouldings. Thanks for posting another very interesting vid. Geoff.

Funnily enough, working in the rail industry, a bearing failure is a major failure, (remember the summit tunnel fire 1984?).
Having spent the day with the tech guy from SKF doing a bearing course, a common cause of failure is...... Too much grease!
So bearing buddies are not a good thing for lots or road miles. Jon, I know you do lots of miles from time to time, so you are clearly getting away with this, or you are changing bearings regular enough to not see any adverse effects.
I only mention this to highlight a potential cause of failure to be considered, so even tho you think you have it covered, you still need to check them.

When you look at a prepacked bearing its surprising how little grease there is in there...

Get a decent multimeter on them and see what the charge voltage really is.
The Garmin head unit could easily be displaying 0.5v  out.
I have Simrad, Lowrance and Koden head units that all display voltage (Simrad is the most accurate) and they all show a different voltage to what my Fluke and Vicci multimeters show.
I just use the head units voltage as a guide that my batteries are being charged.
