  1. The boat is loaded, ready for a 7:00am launch. If the weather and sea forecasts hold overnight, then it looks like a trip to the Skerries 👍
  2. Yeah, sort of 'most likely' to 'high probability' 🤣
  3. The chances of a Racor filter failing are pretty remote, however, the housings can fail and suck in air, as that happened on the Jeep. Switching to a good one wouldn't help as you now have air in the diesel system which would need to be bled out. A lot of plant does run 2 filters, the pre filter which could be 10 or 30 micron, and the main filter which would probably be 3 micron. Often, these filters are fitted with a bypass tap.
  4. Great post ………. Wait until you have to do the afternoon school run, that can be a challenge. We do it 3 days per week, but it at least allows me to go fishing in the morning and pick up the tiddler at 3:00pm, but parking the jeep and the RIB at the school sometimes presents a challenge.
  5. What colour was the ATF in the gearbox ? anything other than crimson red is bad news. However, look on the bright side, it was better it stopped your going out, than failing 30 miles out 👍
  6. I use the VM Diesel Specialists for the Jeep engine parts, it doesn't need them very often, but these guys have always come up trumps, and they also offer some good advice. The Jeep has the 2.8L VM diesel, which actually started life as a marine diesel until VM (VM Motori ) were bought out by Detroit diesel, which are owned by the Chrysler group, however, I have never seen a VM marine diesel !
  7. I have never posted any shark or big mack pics anywhere for the same reasons. I just feel that is a good plan not to give the haters any ammo. I haven't been out since late July due to family stuff keeping me too busy, but I can see some light at the end of the tunnel now, so normal service will resume shortly. Word on the block is that there are not as many BFT around yet, but those that are there, are a larger stamp of fish.
  8. True ........... Also the Furuno use quite an expensive magnetron, IIRC About £400,
  9. Koden is good kit and generally used on commercial boats. There are 2 distinct possibilities, 1. Somebody has reduced the sensitivity (finger trouble), or 2. There is a fault in the Raydome which is allowing a wider beam (the width is the beam determines the object sensitivity). The same theory applies if you dont have a Raydome, just an open antenna.
  10. That is closer to 52cm, so according the BASS site the minimum weight will be 3.5lb
  11. There is more than a fair chance that both are wrong, as a 50cm fish will almost definitely weight more than that. Perhaps you are using a cheap chinky tape from screwfix 🤣 Check the scales against a known weight. A bag of sugar is usually good as a rough idea, 1kg or 2.2lb I use Reuben Heaton scales, we have digital to 130lb and dial to 60lb on the boat.
  12. That is definitely a 4lb ish fish all day long. A 42 keeper is close to 2.75lb. That is a good eating size, but you need to bleed them by immediately cutting the gills.
  13. Looking closely, I am pretty sure that is a juvenile Grey Gurnard. It has the well defined lateral line and just behind the gills the classic grey /brown spots fading to white. It also has the more spotted pattern on the head. Reds are generally what it says on the tin, they range from vivid red (almost orange) to an all over Red blotchy pattern. We catch loads of Grey's on the Skerries, Reds and Tubs off the wrecks, and the very occasional Streaked Gurnard.
  14. I have got my own rubber dingy, I will just go across to frogland and claim asylum ............ I am sure they will give me a roof over my head, money in my pocket each week, blah, blah, blah, ..................like feck they will 🤣
  15. Well done Gary, at least you got out in the sunshine and caught a few fish. Sometimes Long Quarry very close in will give you some Mack when Hopes Nose seems fishless.
  16. Excellent Andy. Gar's rarely stick unless foul hooked, and gurnard have got a hard gob, so no surprises there. I guess the Mack's went with you for the BBQ ?
  17. Spectra is pretty much the same as power pro. I have a couple of reels where the braid is over 5 years old, with no fluffing and no discolouration, but I am also aware of the issues you mention with other cheap chinky ebay braids. TBH, spectra is the only braid I will buy from China. Although I can't do a truly 'scientific' line test (not an easy task), I do check the BS by using the same knot and the same Ruben Heaton scales on a regular basis (a couple of times a year), and this stuff seems to be generally OK. There is no real excuse not to change it on a regular basis (other than time), as it is comparatively cheap when purchased in 1000m spools.
  18. I use the same braid. I was reliably informed a few years ago that it is made in the same factory as shimano power pro, it also looks and feels identical.
  19. Probably the side facing the river was worse as it gets the most sun. Top job in less than ideal conditions. They scrub and antifoul some of the larger boats using the gravel slip at the back of the BOAT portacabin as it is quiet there, but you need spring tides.
