  1. Rental properties here in South Devon have gone through the roof. As an example, a property that I know well in Shaldon is normally a grand(ish) in summer high season, at the moment it is £6K per week and almost fully booked !
  2. I notice the ‘June rot’ 🤣 is now beginning to clear. We fish the Stewart a lot but TBH I find it better to fish in the winter , often finding double figure Pollock. Last time I went out we didn't find fish on the wrecks in any quantity until we were 20 - 30 miles out. Yes, the Perrone normally produces a few Bass and the commercials dont fish much it because it is too snaggy. Generally the ‘coal boat’ (Bretagne) is over fished and doesn't produce like it did a few years ago.
  3. Between Meadfoot and Thatcher is always a good shout, as is the Northern side of the Orestone. Also, drifting between the Orestone and Flat Stone (Leadstone) can be quite productive. We also pick up a few drifting the Mudstone Ledge area. I have a few hours to spare in the morning, so I may well go out to the wrecks, I will try a few different ones this time, probably starting at the Peronne and ending up at the Modavia or Reggestroom. My usual trip would be out past the Swansea and on toward the Empress.
  4. Looks like Chesil to me, so not surprised on the Bass / Cod combo. We get a few Codling (up to 4lb) every winter off Torbay, but you have to know exactly where to fish, Kyle is the Cod expert and gets a few every year.
  5. It may be different now, but in my experience they are not easy to deal with from a dealer perspective.
  6. I would have thought that you would be at expert status on that issue 🙄
  7. For the radio, you just need to go online and get a ' ships Radio' licence, which will give you a MMSI number for the radio. If you want you can register your boat on the Small Ships Register (SSR), but this is only necessary if you are taking your boat abroad. here is the Ofcom link for the radio licence ............https://www.ofcom.org.uk/manage-your-licence/radiocommunication-licences/ships-radio
  8. 3 x Century NG stepped up carp rods 3 x Greys Avon rods 1 x Marker 1 x Spod 2 x 50/80 4 x 30/50 4 x 20/30 6 x 12/20 4 x 6/12 7 x 8/15 2 x 6/15 3 x SPJ 1 x 30g spinning 1 x 40g spinning 1 x 80g spinning Also probably a few more that I have forgotten about. These days, I only use the carp rods in France.
  9. Generally, just like a car, it is the torque curve that is vastly more important than where peak HP occurs.............. this is why some outboards of similar HP seem totally different when used in anger. In the words of Carroll Shelby “Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races.”
  10. Generally I avoid fog and thick mist like the plague, however, I often depart in radiation fog as I know it will br clear half a mile out to sea. I have a canister horn, but against all the rules prefer to stop often a listen, it is surprising what your ears can detect !
  11. Definitely works, we cut the gill roots on keeper Pollock and Bass, the fish dies very quickly and the flesh is pristine and white.
  12. With a RIB, the mount is the issue, as it has to be quite high for the Minn Kota to sit along the tubes Luckily, I have a friend who owns an aluminium trailer business, and he is going to knock up a mount, once I have designed it. I intend to fit the battery in the bottom of the mount and have it completely separate from the boat batteries (in the console). I will be going for a deep cycle lead acid as any decent lithium battery here in the UK is upwards of £1000 for a similar capacity. Charging will not be an issue as the boat sits in my driveway and I will use a smart charger.
  13. Over the last few months, I have researched using a trolling motor to accurately anchor, without all the faffing of chains and ropes. Best in class appears to be Minn Kota and to be fair, their technical assistance from the states has been outstanding. I will be using a bow mount terranova, however whether it will be 55lb or 80lb is as yet undecided. 55lb is adequate for my RIB, but 80lb would give an added comfort factor. The spot lock system should hold me within a 1m radius (probably better), for a period of about 7 - 10 hours. An added bonus is the fact that I can use it as a bow mounted aux, and it will give me a little under 5 knts (SOG) for about 5 hours. I am now working out the installation detail as the Minn Kota will be mounted on a quick release plate. Not cheap, but a good solution.
  14. I would have thought it would be called, ‘How Leo Taught me to Catch Bream’
  15. Cut the gills on both sides with scissors, and they are dead very quickly. It would be like somebody cutting the main arteries to your heart. A clonk on the bonce doesn't do the trick very often. Sad when you have to do it on decent specimen, but it happens ........... It would have made good eating, sear the fillets in the pan and rustle up a red pepper, red onion, and watermelon salsa, serve with sautéed baby new potatoes...... lush 👍
  16. Yes, I hope you all have a good weekend and hopefully some decent dangling. I was thinking about going out tomorrow, but really still not well enough, but hey, getting there slowly as my body gets used to the side effects. The next nice day will see me out on the wrecks.
  17. Stop offering him excuses ! 🤣
  18. Just look how close to the rocky fore shore the boat is. I would suggest they struck a rock and holed the bow or the keel..............
