  1. Avet's became 'the reel to have' about 7 - 10 years ago, now nearly everybody I know that had an avet has moved on for very good reason. They may well be better now, but those that I remember in that history timeframe all had bearing issues with very little use. I guess if you were to change all the bearings from new, then it may well be a good reel. I only have direct experience of older Avets, the newer models may well be fine, but it's like a Skoda, people still remember the originals, even though the latest offering have nothing in common with the older models apart from a name ............... Perhaps I need to try one again ? , but right now I am happy with Fin Nor Marquesa MA2011 twin speed as my 'stand up' reels. No good for @Saintly Fish though, they don't make a flid version 🤣
  2. It does seem to happen very frequently on Avet's, which would make me ask whether the bearing is fit for purpose. Also, the spindle rear bearing is a failure point causing the spool to lock up.
  3. Probably the 1000 size model is closer to a SLOSH. I have got all the specs for size / weight and will post them up later.
  4. so it doesn't make any difference to you mike cos you don't know left from right 🤣🤣🤣
  5. Some folk on this thread have been holding their rod far too much 🙄🤣
  6. Just by reading the thread it is easy to reach the conclusion that there is no right, or no wrong, or no correct, or no incorrect with the issue of R/H Vs L/H boat multi reels and the way you hold your rod 😇

    Hi Ron, Welcome ...............
  8. The Gilt will taste nicer than the Black 👍
  9. Feck'in good job that your name is not Richard 🙄
  10. Because it was the norm with coarse, fly rods, and beachcadters. It was more to do with casting than playing a fish 😉
  11. A very poor selection of words there Neil (invalid &spaz ) not all blue badge disabilities are visible. Rods are normally used in the natural strongest hand, and the reels are handed to suit. So, a freshwater rod will be normally used in the right hand for the majority of people, therefore the reels is left handed to be used by the left hand. As I am naturally left handed, the right hand multi is perfect. I hold the rod in the left hand and reel with the right. Perfectly natural for ME. However, being ambidextrous I don’t have any issues with left handed egg whisks, but I do find a left handed multi strange.
  12. No, but left handed reels are for blue badge holders only.😂 However, they are lever drag, which is 100% better than clockwork star drag 🤣
  13. In my experience incredibly unreliable, but they are very nice to use.
  14. Shimano charter special 2000 size. I have 9 of them and they will handle any general fishing that the uk has to offer. Good reliable reels, and the drag is mega smooth if you change to carbontex drag washers. I use them for everything except sharks and tuna, for these I use Fin Nor 2 speed MA20’s or Shimano TLD 20’s
  15. The rods are really nice, not so sure about the reel though ! Not keen on avets.
  16. Mainly large Carp, Commons and mirrors, but also some quite big Catfish. It is one of the few places in France with Crucian Carp, there is also a decent head of Rudd in there that are of a very good size.
  17. @Scotch_Egg2012 @Andy135 remember with an outboard that the flywheel effect of the prop is your best friend. Doing the following you can turn the boat in its own length .......... however, always make allowance for wind and tide Use the wind to your advantage whenever possible ........ in my situation I can have up to a 6knt tide flowing, so the wind is a minor consideration ! As @Odysseyhas said, slow is pro, and the slower, the better job you will make of it. Engine to full Port, a small burst of forward will swing the bow to port and the stern to starboard. Engine to full Port, a small burst of reverse will swing the bow to starboard and the stern to port. The opposite is true when the engine is turned full to Starboard. On a twin engine boat I usually use just one engine (port) and tilt the other.
  18. Listen guy's, it really isn't an issue, you just need to plan ahead based on experience. As an example, when I come back in on a neap tide I don't bother too much about preparedness as there is plenty of time, however, when I come back in on a big spring tide, I stop just before the estuary and get my waders on, lay out the bow rope, hang the extension rope off the bow cleat, place the boat hook in the helm seat rod holder, etc ................ forward prepare for the worst scenario, and it will be fine and seem easy.
  19. Yeah, I seem to remember it is a fit fiddly right under the bow, and you have to shape the plywood backing to fit the pointy bit ................ 👍
  20. Cruel bastid 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
  21. Deer Hunter was in 1978, ............. Cavatina often gives me earworm, this is a great version from John Skelton
  22. It might even be worse than that .......... tomorrow is a bank holiday, so our bins are not collected until Tuesday ! , do your bin guy's work bank holidays ?
  23. IMHO, way too early for sharks, including Porgies, as the water is still a bit too cold for them to readily feed. I never usually start my sharking until at least mid June, sometimes later, which will ideally falls into the period when the BFT begin to arrive in numbers. It looks like you have a good head of inshore reef Pollock, great on light spinning tackle. Sounds like a good couple of days out 👍
