  1. I don't want to 'compromise' the sealed deck in that area. I was thinking of attaching one to the A frame deck fixings and a bracket to the A frame, but after careful consideration, I decided to keep using my tried and tested method of deeper trolling. However, I am still seriously considering fitted a trolling motor to the bow for 'instant' anchoring in deep water and over wrecks.
  2. Just a small update ............ I am booked in to have my right eye cataract removed on the 20 Feb, the left eye will follow about 3 - 6 weeks later. 😎
  3. That is almost as bad as football .........🙄
  4. For trolling, which we do a lot of, there is another way . On a RIB, fitting a downrigger is pretty much a non starter, however, over the years we perfected another technique which seems to work just as well Use a standard Tube / wrecking booms (the correct name is a Guy's boom ) and quite a long trace of 6 to 12 ft ....... the important bit is to spend a little time adjusting the lead size to the depth you want to fish. We find leads of 2 to 4oz are generally good enough. The way to check it is correct is to set the boat going at just above idle (I use mercury Troll Control), start with 4oz and stream out 50 - 100 yds, if it is bouncing bottom on a tight line, then reduce the amount of lead until you can just feel the lure working. On rough ground you can do the same with a Portland rig, but you need to keep the rotten bottom to less than 3 inches ............. All we do is set the clutch to just about non slip on the ratchet and listen for the reel to scream .............. I have two rod holders just for trolling on top of the A frame, I set one rod at 50 yards and the other at 100 yards The takes are normally savage !
  5. I can see why ......... they don't seem to visually have much action, however, the Bass definitely like them. I have found them to be excellent in total darkness ........... my guess is that they give off a vibration that the fish home in on..............
  6. Not really Jon, I can understand it, as the lines of the Starfisher are quite sharp, and it does need to be aesthetically correct...............
  7. Hmm....bad move More struts here at reasonable prices........... https://www.thewetworks.co.uk/search?type=product&q=+Dual+PowerTower+Mount
  8. I guess you are looking at this, Although this is on special offer from 'wetworks'
  9. A nice solution would be a scanstrut composite PT2002 or PT2004 with a SC118 gantry mount for the echomax, Nav Light, and VHF antenna.
  10. I fish vertical and allow streaming of up to 30 degrees or so. Even at 30 degrees you can still impart excellent jig movement Our waters rarely exceed 200ft, and often on the wrecks we are fishing in 100 - 150ft, so selecting the correct jig weight for the tidal stream is usually possible. As recreational anglers we rarely go out in wind speeds that would cause an issue, On the sandbanks and the estuary bar, my jig sizes will vary between 40 to 150g depending on springs / neaps and the time of the tide that I am fishing. Rough ground I use jig of 120 - 180g On the wrecks I generally stick with 180 -250g jigs and work all through the tide. I have found that slow jigs always take the better stamp of fish when compared to shad and eels
  11. Slow jigging is done on a drift, wrecks, reefs, rough ground and sand bars. The secret is to select a jig weight that just prevents streaming.
  12. Out of interest, how much budget have you placed on it ? There are some decent products from both Cactus and Vision Marine.
  13. Poor design and finish, the wind drag on that would have been atrocious. Unfortunately, strut's in 316 tube have never been cheap, most are over a 'monkey' and something that has a bit of bling for the reflector etc will be over a 'bag of sand' There are reasons ....... 316 is expensive, 316 is quite difficult to work with, 316 has a high man hours overhead to get the required final finish, but on the plus side you will buy once, and it will last a lifetime. My A frame on the RIB was over £3k
  14. You should know ........... all pimps wear them 🤣🤣🤣
  15. No problem Luke, are you still at the same address ?
  16. There will be some other stuff Jon, I am try to get some Eagle Claw buffs.
  17. I have got 5 eagle claw tie pins in a mottled blue colour ...... like this ( I cant find a pic of the blue) How can I do this fairly ....... I think they will go to the first 5 outlaws to pm me with a delivery address. i will post up the names if the lucky recipients
  18. Sort of ironic that covid will be on the death cert....... A true gent and ww2 vet that raised £33m for the NHS ...... pretty impressive
  19. 🤣 I know the feeling, the Jeep handbrake is shocking, tiny drums within the rear disc's, it struggles to get 20% on the MOT ! On tidal slips we always leave the engine running and choc the rear wheels ..............
  20. Yes, I know , the wife has been nagging me about it, but the job has to be done !
  21. Plus Gas is a better option ......... Bloody hell you have been busy ! ... I am also busy here and making a good start on the 60sqm raised decking. today I mixed half a cubic metre of concrete and set some of the 27 post shoes. Tomorrow will be digging out more footing holes for the remainder ...........

    My boat

Lovely boat, I have done many hours on an Offshore 25, my mate has one with a pod and twin 150's
  23. I have driven with trailers nearly all my life so, I have no issue reversing, but I know that a lot of folk do ....... the best advice I can give is reverse only on your mirrors and slow is the key. My son, (kyles dad) is also good with trailers, but he also has a licence that allows him to drive fuel tankers and some very specialist other stuff. These days he doesn't use that much as he is a government HGV vehicle inspector. I really hope you get Fenliner in the water this year, I am looking forward to that, which I guess will be the final chapter of a long journey ..........👍
